OT: Wegman's Invading Richmond

Oh man, we had some Wegmans subs in the car when we went to the Maryland tailgate. Hadn't had one in years. It was a battle of wills to not inhale one before we got to the tailgate.
I almost had a panic attack when I saw the Wegmans subs pop up at that tailgate. It took a lot of willpower not to inhale an entire sub. At the time I was living in Raleigh, and had no access to Wegmans at all. Moved back Upstate about a month ago, and have lunch at Wegmans once a week at least.

how about in the next hr? Heading down there for lunch and a couple flicks at the MOST, a Clarks sandwich would have been killer. Gotta "settle" for some of the fine vittles at Blue Tusk...

You just missed me.

But the Tusk's daily sandwich is roast beef on a round roll with horseradish, so you're in luck. And the tunes are (this afternoon, at least) better than what Clark's had to offer.

Syracuse area is definitely spoiled when it comes to Grocery stores. I grew up near a P&C, Price Chopper and two Wegmans. All three were/are pretty good and would be #1 in most parts of the country. When I was teen and in my early 20s I didnt shop much at Wegmans due to the crowds and because I thought it was overrated. The last 5+ years though I do find myself shopping at Wegmans a lot especially after Tops bought P&C and changed there subs.

Price Chopper is the best for meat and seafood and is usually extremely well stocked. As Ottomets noted above the clientele can be a bit sketchy (dont go on the 1st of the month if you value your sanity), but they have great deals even on high end stuff lobster, porterhouse steaks..etc

Tops is good for just needing a few items you can usually run in there and get what you need quickly. I usually avoid buying meats from there as the quality is usually sub par and there prices are higher then Price Chopper and Wegmans. I grew up going to that Tops though when it was P&C so I have a nostalgic feeling there and will usually go there for small trips. There produce is usually good and its never packed. Its funny the Tops near me is never packed but has constant stream of people there from open to close, how they do it I have no idea.

I do not care for Wegmans bakery goods Price Chopper is much better for bakery items in my opinion.

Down in Florida we have pretty good grocery stores. Publix is our #1 chain and it is a quality grocery store. Whole Foods and Fresh Markets are everywhere as well. Wegmans is its own special brand of store but down here in S FL definitely can't complain.

Here in NJ I have one in Woodbridge which is near my office and one in Manalapan near my house and I'm there 2-3 days a week. They have a great organic section and is a great place to pick up a quality lunch. Compared to some other jersey supermarkets, Wegmans is far superior!

Keep moving on south, Wegman's! Get one in Knoxville soon, and then add another one to where ever I move in North Carolina.

I may be biased, but Raleigh is nice for both Wegmans and relocating.

Considering it
I left NY...but come back part time...getting a small camp north of Syracuse is great way to feel connected to the area.

I have been in the KC area 12 years and to this day you can hear me grumbling...this ish would never fly at wegmans, as I pick through the produce.

TOPS is an awful supermarket. The one on Rt 31/Rt 57 is beyond horrible. The one in airport plaza is slightly better but nothing to write home about. And Shop City is pretty bad too.

There are certain things that Wegmans is strong in but I never understood the fascination with them.
I never got it either. I mean its a nice Supermarket but I don't get all gaga over them. The one thing Wegmans does best is they always have a ton of checkouts open so getting in and out isn't difficult. Tops and Price Chopper can't say the same and you will wait in a long line 9 times out of 10. Never long lines at Wegmans for the most part.

Also the prepared food section at Wegmans is top shelf. Lots of options. Some of Wegmans prices are far too high though, especially in the bakery.

I still love Nichols and try to go there whenever I can. They have many more options than the other supermarkets in my opinion

Good discussion but why is it on the football board?

Because it is rather slow for football discussions at this time, not a lot going on now that spring practices are over. Recruiting front is in a lull.

When a poster puts "OT" in the header it is buyer beware. As SUbear said...it is a slow time of the year.

Drove through/around Raleigh a little last year. We may want to get a little closer to the the coast but it's on the list of potentials. This move is a few years away so Wegman's has the chance to set up shop and sway my decision.

I cant believe they are moving so far from base when we cant get a Wegmsns in Madison county .. Price Chopper is pretty good .. Topps sucks .. but Morrisville Big M has a great butcher , good meat and well priced ..

Ditto. I've never understood it. I go to the grocery store to get groceries. It isn't a fun time.

The food they prepare is so bland it's painful (do love those black & white (half moon) cookies they make though).

Lived in NYC/Iowa/Illinois, and Waldbaums/Hy-Vee/Schnucks always seemed to be just as an amazingly awesome fun experience. And they all typically carry more brands - Wegmans doesn't carry tons of stuff. People always say the staff is soooo nice and happy, but I never noticed them being any nicer than anywhere else either. Half the time they're great, half the time it's some semi-miserable looking high school kid.

Oh well. Just always find it weird how gaga ppl go over a grocery store.
