... and today was no exception.

Faegan's 15 year-old nephew was playing in a high-level, all-star lacrosse tournament a few miles from my house today. Knowing where I live (because I've mentioned it here several times), Faegan (whom I had never met) sent me a PM saying he would be in the neighborhood with his family.. and invited me to join them to watch some high-level high school lacrosse.

Since I had no other commitments this afternoon... and because it sounded like it would be fun...I met Faegan, his wife, his children, his brother, his sister-in-law and his brother's children (including the lacrosse player) at the stadium at Wilton HS.

What an enjoyable afternoon it was! I made a bunch of new friends... And Faegan, his brother (who lives about four miles from me) and I had a few post-tourney celebratory drinks at a lovely seaside bar.

Moral of story... once again... don't be shy about showing up at syracusefan.com events to meet other board members. There are a bunch of really nice folks here.

This story is boss by all involved, but you should take a page from "Seinfeld," CTO, and keep a list of excuses next to your phone (so as to avoid commitments), as you might be receiving a bunch of "ever seen a Little League game live?" inquiries soon.

EDIT: There's more than a few degenerate gamblers on here who are putting money on "CTO will talk [expletive] about me in a post."

Little known fact: My first job, when I was 11 years old, was "Official Scorekeeper for the Armonk Little League." So I have seen more than my fair share of Little League games.

Ha! Doris Kearns Goodwin speaks eloquently about "keeping score." A lost art.

glad to hear that and not surprised. Haven't met Josh yet but he's all aces on the OT board where we all jostle with one each other now and again.

Not to overstate it but this board, the connections from it, to the shared SU passion from it have been one of the best things to happen to me in my adult life. Family's great, friends are too, works fine, but this most unexpected enhancement (for the lack of a better word) of my SU fandom has been something else (as evidenced of what happened around here with our friends Dan's passing).

Hard to put it to adequate words. Much thanks to you Joyce as you were on the ground floor with this all. I now dub you "Queen Joyce", queen of syracusefan.com... :)

Now I know why you have refused to meet me.

I've never met a person from this board I didn't like...

Gee, I don't know. You suspended my account at least four times!

Queen Joyce? OK, do we have to like bow or something at tailgates? I better get a book or something about protocol.

Thanks so much for coming and spending the day with us, Joyce! I have to concur that we have a very nice group of people that we've collected here over the years.

Not surprisingly, Joyce was every bit as much fun - and gracious - in person as she is here on the board.

Just got home so I have to go rescue our first son from dog camp, but had to write something as soon as I saw this thread!

Thanks again, Joyce!

Dog camp? That sounds like an interesting post in itself. Hope your son comes home trained, able to roll over, fetch etc .

Thanks, Mike! And completely agree with your sentiments about the site, and thanks to Joyce and all the other staff who continue to make this such a wonderful place!

My wife still talks about how I offered to share a room (two double beds, btw) to a Marine "I met on the Internet at that Syracuse Sports Board" as she tells the story. She had visions of some creepy, stalker...little did she know Jarhead was much worse.;)

I too have been pretty impressed with the board members I have met. Everyone has been awesome.

I have never met anyone from the board, I hope that changes, would love to meet you guys one of these days.

The easiest way to meet us...come to a Fine Lot tailgate or sign up for one of our ticket offers. If you are local...send me a PM. I can give you some suggestions.

BTW, to any lurkers...we have up to 1-5 tickets with parking pass available for CMU. We also have tickets available for Wake Forest and Clemson. Send me a PM.

I am In Northern Nj, more than likely I will be at the Notre Dame game, I will try to get up to the dome for a game, not sure if I can yet.

cto Can I assume there are people on this board who you have not met who you don't like?

We should have one big 'ol Happy Hour sometime. Alcohol always acts as a social glue, especially with some in this group!
