Premier League

Shite goal but not a bad showing thus far. We look to be their equal vs getting completed outclassed. Nervy moments from both teams at times, hopefully we find a few goals.

side note, Vincent Kompany apperently has lisence to do whatever he wants. Between dragging people down and hand balls it's a trip to watch him get away with.
Henderson had a great chance at the 30-minute mark but turned the wrong way in the box. Tough angle but lesser players have scored from that spot. Good game.

Tough scoreline to take but the game itself wasnt quite as bad. City decidely more incisive in the attacking third. I'm waiting to see if that Sturridge goal was in fact offsides. Didn't look like it but was close.

I just turned on the Chelsea-Everton match at the 2:58 mark. Are you kidding me?! Blues up 2 already!

And Tim Howard was VERY lucky to not get a red card for handling the ball outside the box.

EDIT: This is the best game of the season so far. 4-3 Chelsea in the 76th minute. Everton keeps answering every Blues goal. Tim Howard was giving a yellow card for going after Hazard after his goal. Tim's not having a good day.

EDIT2: Make that 5-3 in the 78th minute. This game is nuts!

Howard might have had the worst game I have ever seen from a keeper. You couldn't count the mental mistakes he made on all ten fingers. He was just always in the wrong place, and always making bad decisions.

Beatdown at White Hart Lane. 3-0 Liverpool. With Man City dropping that game to Stoke City at Etihads each team got 3 points this week which after Monday was highly unlikely.

Balotelli stayed sane and Liverpool have yet to see the best of Markovic. They look a top 4 team. Chelsea looks the favorite to win the league though. They made Everton look horrible yesterday.

It's games like this that make people soccer fans. Hell of a game.

I think Balotelli really adds a lot to their attack. I think there are enough talented players around him, and circumstances kind of dictate, that this is his last chance at a "big" club. There are enough good players around him that he doesn't have to do it all himself. He needs to stay humble. He just has to fit in, work hard and give them a presence in the air. He is surprisingly good with the ball at his feet. He's a cross between Dennis Rodman and Paul Harris. He could really fit in well here, and make Liverpool a true contender. They need a guy like him in the box on corner kicks.

I actually thought the final score flattered Liverpool a bit. I like Spurs' direction. I don't think that Adebayor alone is enough up front. He was better when they played a 4-4-2 and had a quick guy like Jermain Defoe playing alongside him. He was too isolated. And they still miss a true play maker in the middle after selling Luka Modric. Lamela is more of a winger. Erickson is OK, but he's not that creative.

I give Spurs credit, they have built a physical midfield that is deep in players and they will have options for the Europa League. But they are missing a couple quality creative players to fill out their team. I really like the coach, Mauricio Pochettino, and think he is doing good work with these players.

I thought the 3 goal margin was about right. You could argue that 5-2 or 4-1 would've been more fitting but Liverpool were faster, more physical, and better organized. Mignolet only really had 1 save to make vs Lloris getting helped out by a few missed shots. The potential for another 5 goal drubbing was there and when Balotelli shakes off the rust it might well be the case when they visit Anfield later this season.

Balotelli came in with the rep of being a goal poacher who never passes or plays no defense, but I thought he passed well and pressed Tottenham well, yet he missed three easy goal scoring chances. It kind of reminded me of Cooney's freshman year when he came in with the reputation of being an unathetic three point shooter, then he showed good athleticism, played good defense, and didn't hit any threes.

I chalk it up to rust. The man hasn't been playing since the world cup. I just rewatched the game and focused a bit on him. Nice to see him back at our own box winning balls in defense as well as pressing up the pitch to press defenders. These are things that have never been asked/expected of him. Balotelli can be a poacher but his game has a lot more to it than that. He's capable of some wonder strikes from further out although he, unlike Sturridge, didn't attempt any of those yesterday.

Okay the transfer window is closed. What are your predictions now?

Mine are:

1) Chelsea
2) Man City
3) Liverpool
4) Arsenal
5) Man United (up from 7 with yesterday's deals)
6) Everton
7) Tottenahm

Chelsea have to be the favorites, and the only other team with a realistic shot of winning the league is Man City. I'm about 95% sure one of those two will win the league. The other 5% goes to Liverpool, if all their new signings end up as best case scenarios.

Nobody else is deep enough and complete enough to win the league. Arsenal (as usual) put together a good team that is one or two players short of being great. Man United only signed great players at positions where they already had great players, and Everton and Tottenham are good but nowhere near "winning the league good."

Still too early to tell for me. Ask me on September 22nd at which point Chelsea will have played Swansea, Schalke, and Man City in an 8 day span.

While I see your point - Liverpool is explosive on offense and missed a couple chances, especially Balotelli in the first half - I think that Spurs' midfield was very good for a couple 10-2o minute stretches of the game, and if they had better finishers, it could have been a closer match.
