TE/DE Jake Pickard (NJ) VERBALLED TO SYRACUSE

Do the quality pick ups in this year's recruiting class guarantee another year past 2015 for Team Shafer regardless of the outcome of this upcoming season?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This is the team's best recruiting win in recent memory considering the timeframe and competition. Instead of being the hunted a week before signing day, HCSS and Bobby A were the hunters! Great job, keep up the momentum!

Thank God, some good news finally. Welcome aboard, Jake!

Does he start as a true freshman?

I doubt it. He comes from a non-traditional, non-winning football school. At this time, he looks like a HS tight end, not a DE... Size wise. May be injury prone. Not super fast.

He has a good frame. I think his father played D1, so he's got the genes. He will need a few years of development, In my opinion. Nothing wrong with that.

Welcome to the Syracuse family, Jake! Looking forward to seeing you play in the Dome!
Great week for Cuse football recruiting. Way to go HCSS and coaches!

Definitely play. A bit unfair to him, though, to start. Asking an 18 year old to go head-to-head all game against guys who've been in a D1 S&C program for a few years is a bit much.

In truth It's all a bit of guess work. I don't know what his weight room numbers look like which, as you well know, is of massive importance in the trenches. Seems like we are getting more guys that are ready strengthwise to play immediately. I'm not sure who are and are not aside from the 3 who's parents post on the recruiting side. They all look the part and put in some serious work to get there. The numbers shared on Steven are about what my buddy, who is big dude, was doing after two/three years in a D2 strength program as an olinemen.

If Jake is anywhere close, he'll get some PT. As fans we all get giddy over what these players would look like as 5th year seniors but the caliber of recruits we're now getting aren't ones that sit the bench for a year. Very good problem to have.

He needs to add 20 pounds of muscle.

If Jake is benching 300+ and squatting 450+ he'll get some playing time for sure. If he's able to add roughly 20 more pounds between now and the fall, that's even better. I'll wager he can.

Just curious but have Steve and Jake formed a decent relationship? It seemed like that since Jake was following him on Twitter.
