Yankees and Cashman screw up the Moncada option

I'm sure the Yankees will have plenty of opportunities to spend over $30 million for an unproven player.

I fixed it for you. It was actually $60+ million with the penalty tacked on, but that has really been chump change for the Yankees when you look at the way they overpay veterans, particularly in the last years of their contracts (CC, Tex, ARod, etc.)

Wasn't Cashman's call. He wanted him but Hal wouldn't go any higher in price

boston more than willing to over spend to keep someone from the yankees.. seems like more scouts think is not worth the money they more than watched him play.

Question I have is why in spite of their spending habits is the Yankees farm system rated so low, and is that trend getting any better.

Yes, especially with the huge international prospects they stock piled. Of the Top 10, the Yankees signed 5 of them (although they are young 16-18, think Montero, Sanchez) they are really trying to build the farm system. Some really interesting players this year and all eyes will be on Judge, Severino and a few others. Including ones coming back from injuries such as Campos

yeah, that's why the yankees offered him 25 million (and were going to go to 27 million) because he isn't that good. Everything isn't about the Yankees. The Red sox spent all that money because they wanted him for their team. keeping him from the yankees was just a bonus.
