Class of 2016 PG Alterique Gilbert (GA) Verballed to UConn

That's an interesting standard.

The reason I say that is because while he didn't recruit Lamb or Napier, he was an assistant, or head coach the entirety of their careers at UConn. How is that not 100% involved in their careers? What does recruiting them in high school have to do with his helping develop them in college or sending them to the NBA?

If you hold him to that standard literally the only players that could count would be those from the 2012 onward. Meaning he gets credit for Drummond and Daniels (as players he recruited, coached, developed and got drafted). The rest are still in college, or in Boatrights case still trying out at the combine.

I can see discounting his infuence on Kemba because Kemba was at UConn two years before Ollie arrived but discounting his influence on Lamb and Napier that's absurd.
Not a UCONN fan by any means but I have to agree with this. Despite the CR woes UCONN will stay in a good place basketball-wise, 4 rings will do that for you. Ollie has proven to be a good HC, winning a 'ship early and with all signs pointing to them being a factor in CBB moving forward.
Neither they nor us for that matter, have to justify our programs by any measure, notwithstanding the "slightly" ;) biased yahoos amongst our fanbases.

That kid reminds me of Flynn. Might be a better shooter. Lville will be tough to beat here.

I've felt Louisville since day one.

And since we're uncertain about Simmons, I'd offer Huerter for 2016.

That's defeatist.

Settling is a poor strategy. Would like to ad Huerter, but not to offset the risk of losing Simmons / Gilbert--but rather because he's a solid player to bolster depth.

I still want Huerter as a 17 ready to contribute. I also would prefer Simmons over Gilbert but if Gilbert wants to commit I don't think you can pass. Jonny with a better jumper seems acurrate.

Huerter keeps getting better and better. I'd love Simmons and Gilbert to a lesser degree, but after those two I think Huerter is the next best choice. Besides those three guys, I'm not sure anyone else is worth taking at pg for 2016.

Hate to see it, but he'd be perfect in HCRP's system at L'Ville. I think some are selling Huerter short here- we've had lotsa luck w/ sharp-shooting, seemingly-slow, read; White, lead guards at SU.
I'd love to see Huerter in Orange, & would hate it if he went to ND and became an annoying pain-in-the-ass for 4 years.

I'm sold on Huerter.

Not sure if this was posted anywhere but nunesmagician seems to think Gilbert will be the next to commit, having grown up a big SU and Boeheim fan. We also figure to make the final cut for Simmons and Keita appears to be very high on us as well. I think it's definitely possible that another scholarship opens up sometime in the next year and we'll be able to land a guard and a big man for 2016 in addition to Moyer. Any of the three guys from GA would be most ideal IMO, but I also like Keita and Huerter as consolation prizes.

Orrange says this thing is over. Simmons it is.

Guess who is now a 5-star recruit and ranked 5 spots ahead of Tyus Battle in the newest ESPN rankings...

Love those pure pgs. Louisville has them in spades every year and they kill us. I very much want one of those. As good as the Battles and Howard's, etc., they are combo guards who are developing their pg skills. I want a pure pg to open the floor for our shooters and big men. I'll sacrifice a bit on defense.

Not only does Gilbert's game remind me of Jonny Flynn, but his rapid ascent is mirroring Jonny's as well. He's absolutely Flynn v2.0 in basically every respect right now.

Interview with Gilbert on S___t today. Some highlights:

Has a final 5 of SU, UConn, Louisville, Texas, Illinois.
Calls Syracuse his dream school but they have not been in touch with him lately. (huh? maybe due to Battle?)
Plans to make a decision by late August.
Looking for opportunity to play right away, academics of school, program history, a winning program.

According to the writer, Gilbert may have been the quickest guard at the NBAPA 100 camp. Other guards had trouble trying to stay in front of him.

Can't neglect this kid while Battle dithers. This kid is gonna be a good one.

Well, doesn't seem like we're going hard after him.

The staff obviously knows ______X infinity more than I do about what's going on. That being said (and I'm not close to the freaking out stage) as a fan, my only legitimate worry is being left without a chair when the music stops. I love Battle as a prospect but if we miss on him and lose Gilbert, etc., etc., as a result, I'll feel like the one kid not getting laid on prom night...not that I actually know what that's like
