Please move this if it's better asked in the football forum. When Milford Academy was turned into a well known prep school and football power, with it's proximity to SU (less than 75 miles) there was hope that it would would be another pipeline for the program. Maybe I've missed it but I haven't heard much about Milford graduates being a big boost to SU's football program lately. Is Milford still a recruiting force for SU?

GRob/Marrone era - absolutely. During the rebuilding time it was a feeder and a place to park kids who didn't qualify.

From Shafer on, not really at all. I think we'll see very little activity there outside of a few exceptions because this staff is very focused on recruiting qualifiers out of high school. I could see them direct recruiting a kid from there since it is so close or maybe using it to park a kid they take a flyer on due to talent. But the days of seeing 2-3 kids from Milford in a class are probably over.

Just to add to what Tep624 describes above, I think another issue was that the coaching staff at Milford had a firm policy of not letting schools actively recruit committed players, to avoid biting the hand that feeds them / placed talent there.

So many of the top recruits there weren't guys we could actively recruit anyway.

Yeah you're right about that. For every Mikhail Marinovich, there were 5 other prospects that were off limits.

FWIW: Happened upon the group from Milford who were up for the Colgate game. Seemed to be really enjoying the team and the style of play. Spoke briefly with Coach Chaplick. It was his first time meeting Coach Babers earlier that day and came away very impressed. He said he has no doubt that SU found the right guy to turn the program around.

I like also.. I see he could be a big help to the D-Line. Looks very strong in the upper body.
