some 41 years later, Syd would be the name of my 3' bong...

January 17, 1991 Desert Storm starts.

for us, that was the night of the 16th, but it was the 17th there.

will never forget that night. I believe it was a Monday and during the game v storz, the announcer hit the loud speaker and said something like either we had just declared War or if it was already declared...we were going to start acting on it.

we beat storz in OT, then I remember running from the Dome back to my fraternity house to watch it on CNN. an odd move for me because I usually ran to Harry's after games for a # of drinks.

that also happens to be the 1st SuperBowl I remember.

The toy company Wham-O has taken notice of a plastic flying disc invented by WWII veteran pilot Walter Morrison, who's been selling his Pluto Platters on the beaches of Santa Monica, California. He sells the rights for the Pluto Platter to Wham-O, which soon changes its name to the Frisbee.

1 Hockey (Canada defended its Summer Gold Medal here. yes, hockey was a Summer Olympic Event till then)

and

1 Curling (if only the world had TV's this sport would've really taken off)

* of note, 11 year old Sonja Henie participated and finished last. she would win the next 3 Golds.
