    ESPN

the ACC-ESPN contract specifically provides for re-negotiation when new members are added, as Swofford stated when announcing the additions on Sunday... that contract would not have been signed, in the first place, without it... everyone saw, or should have seen, the coming changes...

    ACC Baseball?

@ UNC we have women athletes, on a full ride, who are playing their sport for the first time in college... not women's soccer, obviously, but many others... Title IX ain't goin' away any time soon...

Dare I dream of Penn State?

they have never had the success they thought they would in the B1G... but the money is right... depends what is more important, and what vision they have for the future...

I think I've figured this out a little bit...ACC expansion...

Pete Calvin: the Big 10 has not always wanted ND... in the first half of the twentieth century ND asked in and were rejected and they have never forgiven the slight, even if there is no one around today that was around when it happened (I'm halfway through my 60s and it happened long before I...

    All fan vitrol aside

ND #15, if they want it... PSU very unlikely, but it's no secret they haven't enjoyed the same success in the B1G that they had as an independent, and might find again in the ACC north (although if yesterday is any indication, maybe not)... nobody really wants TX and the additional baggage, as...

    Future Lacrosse Dividend

I love lax having gone to prep school in Maryland where they are downright crazy about the game... but y'all need to start up a baseball program again... very competitive, especially ACC vs. SEC... many schools in the South turn a profit on baseball...

I gotta laugh that Rutgers isn't in the conference no more

if ND does finally jump then RU may not be in... but this is likely the last time they will be asked for a long, long, time... no one really wanted TX if they were going to try to keep that Longwhorn network... they ruined two conferences and that ought to be enough for anybody... every team...

    ive got a sneaky

let's see, a small private school with a religious orientation or a giant public school with 100,000 students... which, culturally, describes ND; and where are they more likely to find similar schools? even UNC, the first public college or university in the USA, has never really grown like...

I think I've figured this out a little bit...ACC expansion...

kill or be killed was a part of this too... but it is for everyone, as all will jockey for position... ALL of the other conferences need to make the right moves going forward as mistakes will impact your bottom line... but Jake didn't over-analyze anything, this was calculated all the way and...

I think I've figured this out a little bit...ACC expansion...

Jake: you have read Swofford's mind... that is exactly why these moves were made, but even if ND does not join up (no school will be admitted to the ACC for limited purposes), we will still be among the winners and we have now locked up that NE corridor and all those TV sets... ND and the B1G...

    Some brief thoughts

it leaves me feeling nothing at all, as most UNC folks never had ANY interest in moving and I have zero interest in joining the B1G, unless there were no other choice, well maybe ahead of the PAC 1#... if you have any interest in those third tier broadcasting rights you can google...

The ACC is a "dry" conference...no beer at games

at UNC we have a saying "Put it in a blue cup." UNC is on state property so we have to be discreet... if you tailgate @ UNC and put your beverage of choice in a cup, the police WILL assume you are "respecting local tradition" and WILL NOT ask you what is in the cup... if you insist on pulling...

    Some brief thoughts

belief doesn't change reality... did you know Jim Delaney, (who is a fraternity brother), is a UNC grad... he played SG for UNC teams that went to the final four many times in the late 60s... he understands the value of that dook-UNC matchup which ESPN was so happy to get their hands on...

Swofford mentions having ACC touney at MSG. Interesting...

just like the good old days of the NIT, before the NCAA Tny. came along, of course we all want to play in MSG... starting in the 50s, UNC fans had a phrase for recruiting the NE - "the underground railroad"... we hope to keep doing it and putting the ACC Tny., which was the first of its kind...

    More good news for rutgers

Scooch: your 2nd paragraph accurately describes the process dook and UNC went through... nostalgia had us gazing at the past when we should have been looking to the future... our blindness may have kept you out then, but let me say welcome today...

    Some brief thoughts

Dick: your next to last paragraph is not wrong as much as it is myopic... UNC received overtures from both the B1G and the SEC as did dook (yes, that is the correct spelling), and to their credit dook, independently, said thanks, but no thanks, as did UNC... both the B1G and the SEC felt they...

    Interesting Quote - ESPN.Com 10:39 p.m.

time is of the essence, yes, but this move was calculated, on more than one level... and the ACC needed to expand... it was written into that contract with ESPN that they would re-negotiate if the ACC expanded... in fact, it would not surprise me to learn that ESPN encouraged the ACC to do...

    CUSE to ACC

UNC and dook agree on little and call the shots on nothing... they were the only 2 to vote against all expansion last time and NO ONE else listened, NO ONE... what you won't like is trying to beat us in basketball... much as I hate to admit it, dook is a "tough out" too... to the folks above...

one thought...we have to play in north carolina for the ACC championship

they will absolutely move it north when possible... have you ever heard of what we @ UNC have called "the underground railroad" since the 50s? we like to recruit everywhere...

    Will Cuse/Pitt replace Florida State/Clemson?

interesting... can you tell me the last time an ACC team was poached? that's right... never! not SCeast, they left and almost died for 20 years as an independent, until the SEC took pity on them... the ACC members meant what they said and several have turned down overtures to move elsewhere...

    we won't stay @ 14 so

WVU is likely SEC bound; an indredibly loyal fanbase but their academic reputation... and it is the academics who actually get to decide in the end... there are only so many options in that North East Corridor (where all those TV sets are) but TX and ND are attractive... don't worry no one...

y'all works to the above poster who asked... and y'all should have been in the last time... rumor has it TX and TT have applied... dnk if true... but locking up the NE corridor is paramount and your addition is a statement as to who the ACC believes is most likely to deliver the NYC...
