    Francis new podcast

To be fair, this site uses Francis to drum up pageviews and hits as well though. I know when I first started visiting the board it was specifically to get Francis's posts and updates on recruiting. The basketball recruiting board feels it quite a bit when he takes some time away.

    Alumni donations

The info I was told was that overall once Coyle got a look under the hood he realized he inherited a much messier situation than he anticipated. However, the group they singled out was regarding the department's ability to raise funds. Coyle has a reputation within the collegiate athletic...

    Alumni donations

Depending on when they attended school doesn't this indirectly prove bnoro's point though? College tuition costs have sky rocketed so in most cases baby boomers and prior generations had a fraction of the cost in student loans that millennials and recent graduates are digging out of. They're...

    Ville Clemson

There's a YouTube channel that basically has every noteworthy college football game condensed to 30 minutes which is perfect for my commute and someone like myself who loves college football and gambling to see a lot of teams/games. This early in season it's so hard to gauge teams because who...

Class of 2019 SG Brycen Goodine (MA) SIGNED WITH SYRACUSE

This is an exciting get. He's an explosive athlete with a high ceiling to keep improving over the next few years. Great to see us get an early start on 2019.

    Rysheed Jordan Story

It's a little foggy but I think Ennis committed that summer and we were looking for a second guard who could run point, as Ennis was the only PG on the roster that year. We liked Jordan a lot and tried to press him to commit to us in the fall. Also in the fall, G-Mac went up to Brewster to check...

New rules on transfers may be coming in 2018

I'm not sure. That's a really good point though. The whole thing seems like it's going to get real messy and that's even before you see the coaches start to maneuver in ways to best suit their programs/job security.

New rules on transfers may be coming in 2018

I think they still run into that issue with having credits transfer over, however, they're in a slightly different situation than your average student because the financial cost of paying to retake the "lost" credits isn't really an issue if you're on a full scholarship.

New rules on transfers may be coming in 2018

I agree with most of what you're saying in how it would alienate some of the fans. However, should that really be one of the primary factors weighed? The main focus should be what's best for the kids although like you said it routinely is what will make the adults in the sport the most money. I...

    Hypothetical Question

Your first sentence is 100% speculative opinion where you assume the best case scenario for our program and worst case scenario for Cal because you're an SU fan. The reality is that neither of us know what any program does or doesn't do behind the scenes. Another reality is that JB has been hit...

    Hypothetical Question

I would take Cal and enjoy the success and excitement of competing for a championship each year then watch our guys become NBA all stars while they routinely come back to campus to support the program. That sounds like a lot of fun. We've been hit with serious sanctions twice in the last ~20...

    Watching fsu

The most impressive thing to me about Bama last night was their defense lost 7 starters to the NFL and then had one of their starting DL limited from being shot last weekend and 4 of their 5 best LB's missed all or a majority of the second half due to injury and they still held FSU to just 7...
  13. W

How many years are fans willing to give JB to turn this around?

I think it has a huge part to do with it. College basketball revolves around strong guard play, unless you have an absolutely elite front court to offset it. We haven't been able to replace Ennis and it's been a huge head wind. Gbinije was incredible for us in the NCAAT and it resulted in a F4...

    Where is Taurean...?

All I can say is that if what Otto said is true then he wasn't just breaking that story to people on this board but to individuals involved in his story as well.
  15. W

    Where is Taurean...?

He made it up. It's not true and as I said in my prior post that I can confirm from very strong sources that his story is baseless. Embarrassing he would post that on this board and that mods wouldn't step in.
  16. W

    Where is Taurean...?

This is 100% completely false. Can not stress enough how false of a claim this is. I can confirm from sourceS literally as close to that situation as possible that you made this up. If you're upset he left the program that's fine but don't trash his name with completely made up stories on here...

    NBA 2017-2018 thread

If Kyrie is leaving because of Gilbert then yea get rid of him. But if Thomas effectiveness is significantly hindered by his hip this year then this isn't a good trade for Cleveland. That version of IT isn't going to really come close to making up for what they lost in Kyrie and they'd...

    NBA 2017-2018 thread

If I'm Cleveland and I know LeBron is leaving I don't think it's the end of the world to just try calling Kyrie's bluff and see how the year goes. Then you sell to him he's the face of the franchise after LeBron leaves and still has Love, TT and the rest of their supporting cast to prove he's...

    NBA 2017-2018 thread

Pretty much my exact thoughts. Kyrie going back to Cavs annoyed isn't that big of a deal because it sounds like there's been distunction there for awhile. Kyrie isn't stupid either. He knows his endorsement money and sponsors wont like him having a subpar year or grabbing headlines for not...

Class of 2019 PF/C Dimon Carrigan (MA/JUCO) to FIU then WVU

I think it's more important how big you play as opposed to how tall you are. Carrigan seems like a guy who likes mixing it up, protecting the rim and is aggressive defensively. Roberts from what I gather is more of a project face up/stretch big. If JB is going to double down on the zone with...

    Tyler Ennis / Lakers

First, I really hope our staff and program is setting up all of our former players who play professionally with trustworthy, smart financial teams to help them with their new money. I'm not sure I follow when you say Tyler doesn't have time when it comes to compounding interest. I'm in the...

Class of 2018 SG Eric Ayala (DE/IMG) to Maryland

That's what I thought it might be that people were referencing someone was telling him to stay in 2018 but I don't know why that's viewed as bad advice for him though. I've seen Ayala play up close in person and advising him that staying for another year and getting better in the prep scene...

Class of 2018 PG Jalen Carey (NY/NJ) SIGNED WITH SYRACUSE

I have no idea if Carey will end up in orange or not but all you can ask of the staff is to do everything in their power to put us in the best possible position to receive his commitment. I've been critical of the staff in the past because I thought we weren't close to doing that but with Carey...

The lesson from this Freezes firing

Posted this in the football thread but I wouldn't be so sure Freezus wasn't calling for recruits. The only surprise by many in the SEC is that the call he got busted for wasn't to Memphis. There's a reason everyone at OM who had been so brazenly fighting every inch of this NCAA investigation...

Hugh Freeze out at Ole Miss

Freeze wasn't fired for this phone call. Freeze was fired because they don't want there to be any more digging at all into the escort story. For a school that has fought every thing and backed Freeze unconditionally to the public as recently as 72 hours ago there are very obvious reasons they...

Class of 2018 PG Jalen Carey (NY/NJ) SIGNED WITH SYRACUSE

Great we have both Red and Griffin there watching him with JB. I mentioned this in the Bazley thread but it's awesome to see how Griffin has been hitting the ground running since he joined the staff.
  29. W

    So what's next - class of 2018?

Bazley was a huge pick up. Haven't seen him play in a game yet but based on highlight clips he atleast looks talented and pretty athletic. I'll have to see if I can find some online or if he's coming out to New England for any tournaments this winter. Awesome to see Griff reeling in a big get...

Class of 2018 SF Cole Swider (RI) Transferring from Villanova to Syracuse

Yea, if he's basically a walk on viewed as a lottery ticket who might be able to help us out in 3-4 years that's great. The growing sentiment that he's going to be an important contributor as a freshman and sophomore, or that we would even be in a position where we need him to be, doesn't give...

Class of 2018 SF Cole Swider (RI) Transferring from Villanova to Syracuse

Agreed, Buddy has his own thread was just responding to your post in this thread about him. That theory doesn't explain why he isn't ranked anywhere. You can be a great shooter and improving player and not be an ACC caliber recruit. And I don't really buy that schools won't offer him because...

Class of 2018 SF Cole Swider (RI) Transferring from Villanova to Syracuse

How good is Buddy though? It sounds like he's a great shooter but how good of a basketball player is he? I haven't seen him play so am legitimately asking. Would we discuss him half as much as we do if his last name was Smith? I've seen he has an offer from UMass but don't see him ranked...

Class of 2018 SF Cole Swider (RI) Transferring from Villanova to Syracuse

Agree completely. Teams that have very few ways to score are incredibly easy to defend. 2018-19 roster as of now looks like it needs floor spacers and of our 2018 targets Swider looks like the only one teams will have to consistently account for behind the 3 point line.

    The Good Ol Days...

It really is such a loaded topic. I'm with you that as a fan of college basketball it would be a much better product to watch, provide deeper story lines and be better for the sport if guys were around for longer periods of time. On the other hand, I think the right thing to do is to let these...

    The Good Ol Days...

Well I think in general making these kids stay for 3 years is bad for the kids. It prevents them from making money on their skills and what if they get hurt in that 3 year span? Some of the reasons were reaching a bit but I thought he brought up some good points. I agree that #8 seemed like...

    The Good Ol Days...

This is a very smart, timely article on why the baseball rule wouldn't be as good as people think for college basketball. Brings up quite a few strong points I never thought of - specifically points 3, 6 and 9. Nine reasons why college coaches' pitch for 'baseball rule' in NBA Draft is junk

    The Good Ol Days...

That getting the college degree by the time they turn 22-23 isn't worth more than the millions these kids are guaranteed when they can very easily go back to school to earn their degree when they're done playing.
  39. W

    The Good Ol Days...

It's easy to roll the dice with someone else's money. If I have a high probability of guaranteed millions doing what I love even if it's just for a couple years then I'm taking it. I'll go take some more classes later.

    The Good Ol Days...

It's not that they're too old, it's that the expectations and standards are much higher for juniors and seniors and many of those guys don't meet them. For perspective, Kristaps Porzingis is younger than Justin Jackson and the same age as Luke Kennard. What do you think Porzingis would've looked...

    Future Campus Framework Discussion

I agree with your premise that SU could spend big in the short term and ultimately have it matter little in the grander picture. I think the unfortunate reality for schools like us is that the major P5 sports in the coming years will see a growing divide between the state schools and the private...

Class of 2017 Hameir Wright (NY) to Washington

He'll still see these contacts at many of the AAU events during the open periods and he can still keep in touch with people on the east coast by giving a call every now and then. Second round pick Thomas Bryant...

I don't think it would've been a material difference one way or the other. He stayed a year too long. He leaves after his freshman year he's a first rounder and everyone says he made a great decision. He stayed and it's easy to say it was a bad one. I don't think the outcome in either situation...

    Second round pick Thomas Bryant...

It's tough to paint it with a big broad brush though. 15 months ago Bryant was a star in the NCAAT win against UK on a huge stage and projected as a no brainer first round pick. If he leaves after his freshman year like he should've this conversation is flipped upside down. He's another example...

In the last 50 years, how many top 15 kids have we got?

Agreed. I think the best way to view it is as tiers more or less with the "bands" growing as you get deeper into the top 100. The top say 5 or so more often than not are no brainer studs. The next say 10-12 guys are players who are great but not quite as good as that first group and so on. A...

Ehhhh I don't know. Curry for whatever reason gets a gigantic free pass from people when he does just as much whining and front running as anyone. It's showtime -- let the (NBA) games begin!
