ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

Let me push back - I don’t know that we do have that cash. Sure, we can hire a handful of sure things, but they aren’t cheap, and we have a limited assistant coach budget. Is it on par with BC, WF, etc.? Yes - it’s actually probably better. But we’re also bidding against SEC schools, Clemson...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

Money paid equates to the probability of better talent, and not every good bet works out (see card counting). I can't say that he made the right or wrong bets - I don’t think any here can with any high degree of certainty - but I can say that the limited resources means he's playing with far...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

I personally support freedom and equality, and I think that they're both ideals that the overwhelming majority of Americans strive to uphold, or at least desire to see in our society. However, I also think that the words written on the player's jerseys carry significance in the present context...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

The problem is that we have a very finite budget. If we were a big school, or if this was basketball, where winning = an avalanche of cash (relative to our competition), then we could justify funding world class position coaches at every position. But this is football, and we aren’t a factory...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

I’d be OK with Addazio. I don’t think he’d win an Orange Bowl, but I do think he’d keep the team consistently decent, and I have to think he’d out perform what he did at BC. I get that they’re Catholic and can sell being close to Boston, but we have a Dome. I have to think that a good OL + a...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

This post is a microcosm of why I don’t think you understand basic concepts. There was no work to do. A poster posted stats that weren’t comparable, and I pointed it out. I wasn’t taking a position about how good our DC is. Well supported or not, the guy’s conclusion could have been right. I...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

No, I’m comparing my level of respect for someone with the extent that I agree with them. It shocks me that you missed that point, as it shouldn’t be hard to grasp and I was very explicit when making it.

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

To be clear, my position was that pace adjusted stats are necessary when comparing fast pace offenses with non-fast pace offenses. He then threw a fit and eventually provided pace-adjusted stats, thereby adding value to the conversation. Calling it coming off the top rope seems a little...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

Yeah, that is way more meaningful. Points are far more relevant, but yards are probably a decent proxy. See the power of relevant numbers?

I’m fairly confident that your name isn’t IthacaBarrel, which means your posts aren’t anon. Those kids on National TV don’t have your luxury, and if vague references to being successful because “you own multiple businesses” are an attempt to impress me, you failed. Internet resumes and low...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

I did, and there are plenty of people who disagree with me who are highly successful. I disagreed with much of what RBG and Scalia wrote, but they were undoubtably successful. They were also undoubtably competent. My opinion of someone has nothing to do with their propensity to agree with me...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

To be clear, I’m not making a statement over whether or not he’s a good OC. I’m making a statement over whether non-pace adjusted stats are meaningful. That’s basic math. But if you need numbers, for the (I’m guessing) 15th time, imagine a world where an offense scores a TD and only a TD...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

You’ll have to get a job one day, and when that day comes, you’ll be thankful that you have an anon name on the internet. The kids suiting up don’t have that luxury. Unlike the embarrassing fly stupid things that you routinely say, they can’t hide. An adult should protect them from their mistakes.

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

Yup, there is a way for me to check, but I’m not going to do the leg work because I’m not the one trying to prove whether or not he’s a good OC. (I personally have no idea, and having seen the arguments that people make for and against him, I’m reasonably sure I’m far from alone.) I’m just...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

The 6 win statement is me, but given our performance over the last 20 years, I have a very hard time thinking that we’ll pull a Gross/Nancy and fire a coach in a year we go to a bowl. Also to clarify, I never said DB shouldn’t come back next year. I agree that JW is correct, and anyone...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

YPG and PPP are close to meaningless stats. There’s a wide dispersion in pace between schools ever since Art Briles’ Baylor offense got big, and the modern game is much faster than past eras. Yards per play/possession and points per play/possession (ideally possession) are far more relevant...

ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

Posts talking about Babers’ “strong” support are odd in a thread where hardcore fans are questioning whether he should be our coach, and in a forum where there have been numerous threads about former players and/or parents of players questioning his coaching, posters questioning whether there...

    Seniors returning

Most schools, including Syracuse, subsidize the athletic department. That subsidy exists for a number of reasons, one of which being the disconnect between the marginal cost of adding a student and the book cost of the scholarship. And yes, the university does tax SU’s piece of the ACC media...

We really need Dino to turn this around

I’m not sure that they’ve had an undefeated season, but they did have 3 straight 11 win seasons. This forum severely undervalues USCarolina. They aren’t Alabama, but they absolutely have strong up stretches.

We really need Dino to turn this around

I think that Dino looks way better next year. I’m not on the DB bandwagon, as I’m not sold on him for SU (I think SU is a 7-8 win school, and I think DB is a 5-6 win coach - obviously outliers happen both ways), but I think we go bowling.

We really need Dino to turn this around

I would mention “Dolphins,” but you’d counter with “Jets,” and you’d win. Still, I don’t think I’d give away enough equity to pry him away from Alabama, esp. given his NFL track record. I get that they can’t get worse, but you can still pay a LOT for better, but still bad.

Vandy fires Derek Mason / hires Clark Lea

I could write a book on why hot chicken is a culinary travesty. The sad thing is that it’s displaced actual good food. Meat and 3’s once defined the city, and you’re missing out on life if you’ve never had lunch (esp. fried chicken) at a real southern meat and 3. Go to Arnold’s next time you’re...

I clicked on this thread to figure out who she was, and I stayed for the inevitable fight that I knew would happen. If it was a SJW PR stunt, then it’s just as stupid as non-SJW PR stunts, which are eye-rollingly stupid, and shame on Vandy for doing it. If she legitimately was the best...

    The dream is still alive

Pace - the offense scored a lot because the team moved fast. Going by memory, the D gave up quick drives, and the offense seemed to either score or go 3 and out. We need a team that scores when we get the ball, and there is a world of difference between scoring a lot of the time and scoring a...

    Dino needs a mentor

I’m not sure what the point of a mentor would be. Would we be hiring a ghost head coach to coach behind the scenes, or would we be finding a friend to tell him that the team stinks. If it’s point #1, then I think we have bigger fish for those dollars to fry. If it’s #2, then sure. Tell him to...

Well, I’ll take Spurrier’s 3 consecutive 11 win seasons at USCarolina over the last decade over any 3 seasons SU seasons that you want to pick in the last 30 years, and I’d take any one of them over any SU season that you want to pick in the last 20. We’re 1-9 with a loss to a school that’s 2 years removed from fcs. What program do you think you’re protecting? *The above said, I do think we bounce back next year, but let’s not pretend like we’re the SU of ‘05 and the tradition and history of our program are alive in the minds of our recruits.

Huh? USC was the #2 team in the country coming off their sanctions. I never said anything about USF or UC, but neither school was bad in the twilight days of the BIG EAST (USF was soft in ‘12, but UC had a ranked 10 win team), no matter how badly you want to rewrite history to make a stupid...
