Looks like Mark Coyle has quite the mess at Minnesota

Anytime a coaching staff is replaced, there will be transfers. The new coach always wants their players, so change is inevitable. The last time an AD took the advice of players- Shafers was hired, and we saw how that worked out. I'll always give credit to Coyle for making the right call in...

Looks like Mark Coyle has quite the mess at Minnesota

I don't have a problem with Coyle- he dumped the over his head Shafer staff and put Syracuse Football back on track by hiring Babers. I understand that players, and families, probably didn't like the move, but as a fan I appreciate him making the tough call.

Uniform of the Day for Colgate

The dumbest thing associated with these uniforms is the fact that you can only buy the blue version. What other school has four different tops and only has one for sale to fans? That's the part I cannot grasp- that's a complete branding fail.

    Jay Bilas is the best

Bilas' battle is on the likeness front. He's not saying athletes shouldn't be students, or held to academic standards. He's talking about schools, coaches, admins, everyone else getting a cut but the student. The worst part is the inconsistency in the rules. Did you know that current Olympians...

Syracuse Athletics Yard Sale & Fan Fest August 13 [Fan Fest Cancelled / Yard Sale is still on]

I think it's been 3 years since the last one SU did, so it shouldn't be a bunch of really old things. Great bargains for anyone who wears 2x-3x gear. I'd advise to get there early if you want something good.

The Fine Lot to Become Basketball Courts?

The buildings across 81 are listed as part of an Energy Plant. I believe SU wants to build this West Campus only if 81 comes down, which is why it's not part of an early phase. Buried somewhere in the document was mention of a boutique hotel (perhaps attached to the front of The Dome). Syverud...

Lou Marcoccia Announces His Retirement as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Disaster is the same word I've heard used to describe them. I've also heard from a few people that the expectation is that a lot more people will be leaving SU this summer than last. Not sure if it's contracts expiring or what, but we'll find out soon enough.

    Conclusions from the season

I don't disagree that the program has slipped from where it was. I think it's fine to question some of the recruiting decisions (non-Thompson), or question player development/coaching strategies. Single-elimination tournaments lead to some weird things. Talent is usually enough to overcome some...

    Conclusions from the season

Am I wrong or did SU beat UNC twice this year? Did I watch a game where one team won their 1st title since '91 and the other hasn't won since '75? This whole "Fire Desko" stuff is a bunch of garbage. Give me some people who are better replacements- Gait? Tambroni? Even all the Tillman love has...

I don't think Cunningham or Manhertz are experienced enough. Manhertz has the development- but does he have any sport supervision experience? Cunningham has compliance, but how is he with business/fund-raising? Of course having a law degree is helpful in many of Syverud's hires. I think his...

Oregon depends on Cheserek. Without him, I don't think they are deep enough. Colorado is right there, but I think on paper Stanford has the most talent. I'm sure there are others (Ok St, Iona, Wisconsin) that will be good-just haven't looked that closely at it yet.

My two cents- he's someone for the committee to consider. I think he's got experience worth exploring. However, I am concerned that he has zero administrative experience inside a P5 athletic program. He might have great business sense, but has he had to negotiate the campus politics that are...

I fully expect Richardson and Lydon to enter the draft

Not sure. They can do the combine and 1 team workout each year. It's certainly possible players could do a workout with the team closest. Couldn't tell if this could be paid for by the NBA or not.

I fully expect Richardson and Lydon to enter the draft

Why wouldn't all good college players declare, and see if they get the combine invite? It makes a lot sense to use the new rules to their advantage. Doesn't mean they have to even be thinking of leaving, but if you can get valuable feedback from NBA folks, they should do it.

"Losing 5 of last 6 makes Boeheim's absence irrelevant"

Final 10 isn't a factor, but if SU had finished 4-2 or 3-3 down the stretch, you might get the committee to look at St John's and say "oh they didn't have Boeheim then". With the 1-5 finish, some of them might think he's not the difference-maker we think he would have been. This of course is...

Zack Mahoney has to prove he's worthy of a scholarship all over again

I'd say this new Illini AD might get it too. Better to move on from Cubit now, take your lumps next season, but give Lovie a head start on rebuilding the program. Obviously fans don't want to pause a rebuild, but if you make the right long-term hire, then you usually see short-term...

Actually, he could have done it. I believe SU was under the 85 limit, so after the LSU game, Shafer could have signed the scholarship papers. Numbers don't lie player development under this Assistant coaching staff has stagnated since 2013

Part of the issue might be Boeheim's preference not to get into drawn-out recruiting battles. This isn't a new phenomenon and it's often worked out well (MCW/Grant are recent examples), but in other cases SU has lost. When you combine this with the NCAA uncertainty, it magnifies the problem...

After 3 yrs of employment at SU, your kids go for free (or close to it, not sure the full percentage now). This doesn't include room and board, so if Athletics covers that it counts as a scholarship. If not, then that student can be a walk-on. Lax does this with Donahue and Simmons.
