Class of 2019 PG Dakota Leffew (GA/MD)

It might be a contingent package deal where Dakota is free to seek out his best deal and Cuse can match. I would like to think if numbers are equal that he would like to play for dear old Dad; otherwise, something is wrong.

Class of 2019 PG Dakota Leffew (GA/MD)

Now, I agree with the dont get mad part about where a teenager chooses to go to college, but no. we will not be fine. We havent been fine for pushing ten years now. We are NOT fine until proven otherwise. Even if we get this kid, that in and of itself does not make us fine.

Class of 2020 F Jyare Davis (DE) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/15/24)

I really like this pickup as I see Jyare as an opposite type of player to Bell so that should give Autry more matchup options. The risk here is, is JD an ACC caliber player ? I have to trust that the staff thinks so or they would not have offered.

    Warriors...

When I watch the teams in the FF play, the one thing they all seem to have in common is that many of their kids play with intensity like warriors on both ends of the court. That is something clearly lacking on recent Cuse teams. I hope the addition of Lampkin will be a step in the right...

    Quadir Copeland in the portal

I was a huge Cope fan. Loved his style and enthusiasm. I also loved the early season trajectory of improvement. However, as the season wore on his play became more erratic instead of steadier. Too many mistakes, but the hot dog w mustard play was his style. A month or two back I would have been...

Great post. I love speed, but the big weakness last year was against teams that could bully our D. That’s a big part of the difference in getting four star guys, they have both speed and strength, particularly for d players.

    Effort, Toughness and Discipline

We need guys who play with toughness. We get beat on the boards almost every game. When we played exclusively Zone you could blame the scheme, but no longer. Shooting comes and goes, but you need more than one guy whose three point shot scares the opponents. I am sick of the long lean types...

    Complete Mismatch with Clemson

Maliq does a lot of things very well, but he has two weaknesses: 1. He is a poor interior defender 2. He does not have a go to move. Part of the problem is that he is a 4 - 5 tweener and not a true center. I keep going back to a few games ago when he hit multiple treys - I dont believe he...

    Louisville Postgame Thoughts

All I have to say, is those fans that dont want Judah or Bell back are freakin nuts. If somehow we can get both of them back along w Cope, Maliq, JJ and the incoming frosh, that has the makings of a really good squad next season. Red has really done a nice job bringing this group along.

    OT Best cough medicine

If the cough is due to a allergies and/or a drip - benedryl. I have had a persistent cough for many years and recently a doctor suggested it could be due to reflux, in which case try pepsin. I presently have a prescription version of pepsin that helps quite a bit.

    Virginia Tech Postgame Thoughts

Another fine effort. I thought the Bell block was the real killer in terms of stopping their momentum. Good to see Chris make an important play on a night when he couldn't make a shot into an ocean. Judah - wow - simply tremendous !!! I still dont like the way Red is managing Cope's minutes -...

    Summer Hoops Portal Wish List

Chris is gradually improving other aspects of his game. Lately he is averaging 3 to 4 boards a game. He cant drive all the way to the rack, but he can drive two or three steps and hit the pullup J. He seems to be working harder on D. Red is getting through to him. If he can improve his handle...

    JJ Starling

It was interesting that on ND’s next to last possession that Red took out Cuffe, supposedly a good defender, and inserted Bell and left JJ in. Bell rewarded w the board and two made freebies.

We won. That is all that matters right now

Well, obviously it was a seesaw. We went from cruising mode to needing the life jacket mode. There were definitely some positives: 1. I like Chris Bell's progression. He scored 18 points efficiently including 4 for 6 from trey range. He contested shots on D and had 2 blocks. He fought on the...

Maliq Brown stats are quite unusual too

Two edged sword. He does a lot of damage at the top with steals and tips and helping the guards. The flip side is that it hurts his rebounding and ability to defend the lane, which is not his forte to begin with. All in all, I would like it to be more situational. For example if we are...

    Last Possession D.....

It worked out, but I gotta admit I was thinking for one critical possession to give them an entirely new look... Hima, Brown, Cope, JJ, and Judah. Maybe even Taylor at one of the guards. We still had a TO left, so if they did score there was still opportunity to get our scorers in...

    Change the Offensive Lineup

Your starters are Red's finishers. If Red wants to start Taylor and bring Cope in as a spark - fine, its the minutes that i bitch about. No excuse for Cope to get less than 35 most games. No disrespect, but your line change idea.......come on - no O with Taylor, Hima, and Cuffe...

    NC State Postgame Thoughts 2

    Return of the slobbernocker

The modern game is about passing and stopping the pass. Yes, sometimes you can ground the opponent into the ground, but that requires dominance at the LOS, something I doubt we will ever attain against our better ACC foes. Conversely on D, you need to stop the run just enough to force the...

    48-26

Part of the rebounding issue is how guys are utilized. I think our only two players with plus rebounding skills are Brown and Cope. Both also have great hands and are disrupters up high. Brown, in particular, makes an effort to get back, but the problem is that if he is coming back from up...

Thinking about Turnover and Next Years Lineup

Really nice analysis. My only point of disagreement is that Taylor has to go. He just has not shown anything close to high D1 skills IMHO. There are lots of threads out there about how Red is doing - how would any high D1 coach do with Justin as a starter ??? I think Bell comes back as he is...

    UNC Postgame Thoughts

We got out rebounded 31 to 23, but it looked like we were at least trying under the glass. It was good to see the guards battling underneath. Special shoutout to Bell - he has basically improved from zero to three the last few games. Appreciate that there is now effort. Red is getting thru.

    UNC Postgame Thoughts

Brown had two early treys and now has hit three in the last two games. He didnt miss tonight. I actually hoped he would take a couple of more. If he is really capable of nailing them at a 35 to 40% clip consistently, that opens up our whole O and is the next big step in his development.

    UNC Postgame Thoughts

Surprised no mention of the two end of clock Starling treys. I thought the first one turned the momentum in our favor and the second one kept them from getting it back. Brown was Brown - he did a really solid job on limiting Bacat from dominating underneath. Great D. If Judah can play that...

    Current assessment vs expectations

I assume we will bring back Maliq, JJ, Cope, Westry, Bell, and MacLeod. We add Freeman and Moore. Where would that leave us ? Maliq and Bell would probably be starting forwards. Freeman should get plenty of minutes off the bench. That is a huge upgrade over this season's forwards. JJ and...

Next Year Staff Changes. Big's Coach?

Why are we criticizing the coaching of bigs ? You gotta have a certain amount of talent for the coaching to matter. Brown appears to be very well coached. He just needs to expand his O a bit. In other aspects he plays as well as can be hoped. Remember he was at best a 3 star coming in and...

    Clemson Postgame Thoughts

That would be nice, but he cant create his own shot and nobody seems able to deliver him the ball on cuts other than Cope. The only way he gets that many shots consistently is if you want him taking 4 or 5 treys a game since nobody guards him out there.

    Clemson Postgame Thoughts

Why didnt Cuffe get a sniff in the first half when JJ needed to take a couple of minutes to re-group ? Why is he getting zero minutes ? Is he hurt, has there been some off the court issues ? He is no savior, but a couple of times this year he did get us going when the team was having general...

Red or Players, which is it

It was obvious from the beginning that this team lacked three point shooting. It was also obvious that the frontcourt was full of question marks. Bell gives us three point shooting, but at the cost of rebounding amongst other things. Maybe he turned the corner on rebounding with the 5 or 6 he...

    Louisville Postgame Thoughts

I must be an idiot, but I need somebody to explain to me why Taylor gets 24 minutes and Cuffe zero. Wake Forest UpDown

It has been said that energy is a talent. Too many of our guys seem to have no motor. As MSO said above doing something once means nothing. An aspect of talent is consistency. Anybody can do something once (not exactly true - I will never dunk unless we get a 6' hoop). If your definition of...

    Wake Forest UpDown

Seriously, usually your posts are usually 90%+ dead on, but how can you defend our talent ? Our forwards are unimaginably bad. Bell can only shoot and does nothing else. Justin is a lost soul. Our forwards- some statistics

The list is flawed. Maliq has played almost all of his minutes at the 5 spot. Maybe, he should be a PF, but he hasnt been used that way at all. Cant include him. Not sure what Cope's mix is between forward and guard, but he is a dual position player. That leaves Benny, Justin, and Bell as our...

Time for a lineup shake up

I am advocating starting Benny over Taylor to change the starting five. Until you do that and see what transpires there is no way to say that that combination would result in us being in a hole or not (relative to competition level). Red does not have a lot to work with with this group. Got to...

Time for a lineup shake up

Our best starting five is pretty clearly - Maliq, Cope, JJ, Judah, and Benny. Problem with going that route is it leaves NOBODY on the bench to come in and be a spark. So that being said, I think our starters should be Maliq, JJ, Judah, Benny, and Bell. My logic is that Cope will get his...
