Why I don't tell people I live in New Jersey

I’m from New Jersey, but wouldn’t want to live there.

    Movies to watch during lockdown?

Best movie about life, death, tragedy and redemption in Central New York is Brother's Keeper (1992) https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1042728_brothers_keeper

You get another year, and you get another year, you all get another

The issue is you shouldn’t assume kids who have graduated will come back for another year. Unlike scholarship basketball players, most lacrosse families have to come up with a bunch of money for an additional year of school.

You get another year, and you get another year, you all get another

Glad someone raised this obvious point. How many families want to pay for a fifth year of college?
  5. Townie72

    Enough!

Only a few companies sponsor these games and they only have one or two ads available.

    Is Orange on NIT bubble?

In my experience in Texas, you have the major metros, Austin and then there’s the rest of Texas, the real Texas. With a huge difference between West and East.

    UVA is so impressive

Of course you aren’t interested in “safe” choices. You have next to no real skin in the game. If it fails, you can say, “You shouldn’t have listened to me in the first place”. The fans all love going for it on fourth down until it doesn’t work. So you think that Boeheim, who has been at SU for...

    UVA is so impressive

There’s a school of thought that SU guys may be the most likely to succeed here in the short and even the intermediate term. Someone coming in from outside “The Family” who brings a different style of play may seem like a huge risk. Continuity would seem to have some value here. Posters on...

    UVA is so impressive

How quickly are we talking about? Everyone gets a couple of years, don’t they?

    UVA is so impressive

Well, Gross decided he would trust others that he expected to know what they were doing. Turns out they didn’t. I suspect Wildhack knows he doesn’t know.
  11. Townie72

    UVA is so impressive

Based of what I know of Wildhack's history, this really is an act of faith on your part. The guy has spent his whole career as a television guy, especially television production. There's very little executive experience in it that would suggest he knows anything at all about hiring coaches...

    We just dominated Pitt

Pitt played poorly. SU played well. Stuff happens! Who knows if we’re capable of this again this season. Not only did not foul out (a minor miracle), he contributed on both ends of the court. No. Mexico in the Yucatán peninsula. Great weather, great food and friendly people.

    We just dominated Pitt

I just read Vermont is 49th in Economic growth. Do all those food stamp recipients slow up the check out lines in the supermarkets?
  14. Townie72

    We just dominated Pitt

    Why would I care?
  15. Townie72

    We just dominated Pitt

Actually, I am not all that far from Cuba relatively speaking. And with an IPad, an internet connection, a FIOS account an a VPN I can watch like I was in the US. And because I’m a fan of the team, coach, players and University I can enjoy it without constantly looking for nits I can whine...

    We just dominated Pitt

I watch every game and the presser that follows. I can do this even from outside the US.
  17. Townie72

    We just dominated Pitt

    Yes. Why?
  18. Townie72

    The Fallacy of losing points.

If SU had a better front line, I might agree with you. But with Sidibe/Dolejaz/Guerier upfront with limited offensive capability sitting down the frequently most potent part of our offense is suspect as a strategy. It obviously didn’t hurt us last night.
  19. Townie72

If you had told me before the game...

Games frequently turn on one or two mistakes. In most games —- especially this year with all the “tight” ones — SU doesn’t have the luxury of having new players learn what not to do or try in them. That’s what practices and “garbage time” are for.
  20. Townie72

    We just dominated Pitt

“just asking a question”? Seriously? You expect people to buy that with your history? It’s all part of a pattern of “JB doesn’t use his bench, doesn’t develop players in games, players are tired, etc, etc.. I don’t have any preconceived notions about anyone. I only see what you post and what...

    We just dominated Pitt

Is this part of “lamentation”? Because it reads like some one desperately combing the stat sheet to find something, anything to slime the coach with.
  22. Townie72

JB in Rochester talks bigs, foul trouble,NIT etc

Lamenting the state of the program? Oh, that's what you call it? So when I read long threads titled "Time for JB to quit", that's just "lamentation"?
  23. Townie72

JB in Rochester talks bigs, foul trouble,NIT etc

So you have the purpose of forums down? Or is this just your opinion on what the point of forums ought to be? Lately the purpose of this particular forum seems to be for some an opportunity to crap all over the program and JB because they are frustrated and need to vent. I figure I'm doing a...
  24. Townie72

JB in Rochester talks bigs, foul trouble,NIT etc

Oh, JB is plenty human. As those of us who have watched press conference after press conference in which he shared opinions and assessment of his own team and individual players that very few coaches ever would know. But your pointing it out has little value. It's obvious. But you and your ilk...
  25. Townie72

JB in Rochester talks bigs, foul trouble,NIT etc

That JB makes mistakes does not in any way suggest that his critics are right about anything whatsoever. Although you would like this to be trie Describe what you mean by “sycophants”. Do you mean “defenders “ against the attacks by the outraged amateurs on here? My experience is that the...

JB in Rochester talks bigs, foul trouble,NIT etc

Wh I see I’ve scored another direct hit on one of the regular critics. When will you be confessing your own ignorance? P.s. With this stilted attempt at being erudite, you are exposing yourself.
  27. Townie72

JB in Rochester talks bigs, foul trouble,NIT etc

JB’s critics, IMO, come in two basic flavors. The Disappointed - Who don’t seem to handle the frustration associated with SU losing at all well and need someone or something to lash out at. JB is the convenient target especially under the theory that the HC is responsible for anything and...

    Hypothetical

Zelda, I admire your passion and effort on this. It’s a hell of an attempt to define the nature of fandom across multiple sports. And I’ll agree that players, opponents and even coaches come and go. I was a huge Celtics fan for decades because of Auerbach and Russell, the Jones boys, Havlicek...
  29. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Yeah, but when those coaches are in place and active, I think the fans do support them.
  30. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Hardly. I’m a double alum. I root for all SU teams and support all the coaches, players and staff in all sports. If I’m in town, I’ll go watch SU lax at Hopkins on March 7.
  31. Townie72

    Hypothetical

He’s been here 44 years as the head coach, he coached every game (except for a handful), he signed off on or helped recruit every player, he hired every assistant coach, the strategies are all his ideas, etc., etc. I have a hard time understanding what part of the SU basketball program he hasn’t...
  32. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Nah! Boeheim isn’t some appendage or afterthought to the program. After 40+ years at the helm, he pretty much is the program. He’s outlived a string of chancellors, AD’s, football coaches and generations of students. I don’t decide who fans are. But if someone doesn’t have faith in Boeheim...
  33. Townie72

    Hypothetical

That’s ridiculous. How would you know what “most” people think?
  34. Townie72

    Hypothetical

What’s your point? All that says we are a long way from break-even, just like I said.
  35. Townie72

    Hypothetical

There would be money for basketball recruiting, travel, etc. even if there were smaller crowds at the Dome. We are a long, long way from “break-even” on basketball. And the surplus generated by the basketball program does benefit the athletic deapryand the University in many ways. But it’s not...
  36. Townie72

    Hypothetical

So defending GMac in a presser against an anonymous assistant coach somehow casts a doubt about his recommendation to Wildhack on who the next coach should be or even what Wildhack’s alternatives are. I don’t have an idealized view of JB. I do have an impression based on watching him and...
  37. Townie72

    Hypothetical

I think you are wrong about the impact of the Dome. Other than generating a lot of revenue. It’s not much of a home court advantage as our record in games with more than 25k fans demonstrates. And “why it’s not impossible” (your words) is a long, long way from highly probable. I’ll stick with...
  38. Townie72

    Hypothetical

You don’t know anything of the sort. What you are suggesting is that JB would recommend to Wildhack a strategy that is Less than ideal because his allegiance to his players / Assistants outweighs his loyalty and concern for the University. I have a very hard time accepting that knowing what I...
  39. Townie72

    Hypothetical

So JB is incapable of picking the successor with the greatest probability of being successful? Instead we ought to listen to this gaggle of fans on here, amateurs with opinions? There’s also the problem of finding someone who is willing to bet his currently successful career on taking on this...
  40. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Why? I just went through the entire Alumni magazine cover to cover. Except for a piece on a substantial gift from John Lilly, there wasn’t a single mention of SU athletics. Not one. If you went to Newhouse, you probably got one too. Check it out. It’s content reflects what the University...
  41. Townie72

    Hypothetical

So you are in the “Boeheim is the Problem” camp? And the road back to past glory is an unnamed and maybe imaginary young coach who will turn this battleship around?
  42. Townie72

    Why

Kkk’8 So the root cause of SU’s current woes are laziness and sloth on the part of Boeheim? That’s your opinion?
  43. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Coaches is not the only reason and may not be the most important one. Jay Wright is an exceptional case. There are just more good places for kids to go and play these days.
  44. Townie72

    Hypothetical

I have no intention of defending or explaining what I find interesting or what I decide to post to you. That ought to be evident and if it’s not. That’s your problem.
  45. Townie72

    Hypothetical

I make an attempt to stay on the track of the original post when I voice an opinion. You, apparently, want to change the subject. Is it because this program strategy stuff confuses you?
  46. Townie72

    Hypothetical

I don’t have standards. I’m an alum. I’ll always root for any SU team in any sport. The University, I believe, will have to have realistic standards. What I have observed in watching SU for many decades is that they give coaches a lot of rope and a long time. The exception to that was the...
  47. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Sort of like Indiana? The fan base, arena and history doesn’t seem to be working as well as it once did? Continuity? Sure, that’s reasonable. We should be able to stay in the middle of the ACC pack. But, I don’t think that’s what you are interested in. You want resurgence. Right? My opinion...
  48. Townie72

    Hypothetical

Setting aside sanctions and JBs age, could any of this recruiting drop-off be due to the rise of all sorts of other programs, each with their own set of benefits and strengths to recruits.
  49. Townie72

    Hypothetical

What are “the standards”? Not yours, but the University’s?
  50. Townie72

    Hypothetical

You aren’t either. And what you think the goals for the program are or should be may not be shared with an Administration that is charged with making these decisions. They have to consider what can reasonably be achieved.
