Harvey has become a trainwreck.

they gotta DL him or at least skip his next start. doubt theyll send him down but they gotta do something.

I really think they need to send him down, it worked for Bobby Jones and Steve Trachsel.

This is the same exact thing that happened to Strasburg last year... in fact his stats were worse than Harvey's. Strasburg had multiple DL stints before he turned it around.

It really pisses me off that Mets fans are turning on Harvey so quickly... yes he took a winding road to get there but he potentially sacrificed his career to pitch in the playoffs and world series last year for the team and the fans. To start booing him because he most probably has lingering effects of pitching too much last year is disgusting. When Harvey leaves the Mets in a few years we should all remember the he took to try and protect his arm last year and the he is taking this year for poor performance because he didn't protect himself last year.

Good point and comparison to Starsburg and his recovery from TJ. He will be fine and Mets fans will love him after the all star break.

I also don't care if Mets fans turn on someone or not because typically their play dictates fan's emotions. I am not a person that boos but I am sure he's not too flustered about Mets fans opinions. He is a strong competitor (albeit a questionable work ethic) and is probably harder on himself then Met's fans. Plus Harvey wins everyday as goes back to his penthouse apartment in the East Village while fans go back to their crappy 9-5 jobs in a 350sqft apartment.

Matt needs some time away from the mound right now, regardless of how they get there.

I agree, how much longer can they let this goes on, he needs a break right now, send him down to Florida for a couple weeks.

Yankee fans booed Mantle, Jeter, and Rivera, if your paying good money, you have a right to voice your opinion.

I'd actually go more drastic... put him on the 60 day dl and transition Verett to full time starter. Tell Harvey to drop 20 lbs, work on his mechanics and rest his arm and get his head right. When Harvey is off the DL in July trade Verett for some hitting and hedge Harvey with Zack Wheeler who should be back by then I believe. Big sexy then gets to be a full time pitcher until the playoffs start.

Of course this is the Mets and they have decided that they are going to run him out there again vs the chisox. At the end of the day I think Harvey is going to be fine... from everything I read it's a mechanics issue + an endurance issue not a health issue. I think if I'm the Mets I hope he pulls it out by end of the year and trade him in the off season for some parts... I want to know who the long-term replacements for Wright and Grandy are and I think we need a couple of catchers who can at least be big league average catchers and defenders. Of course this all assumes that we can sign Cespedes for another 4 years or so.

The guys in the minors I know about are Rosario, Herrera and Dom Smith... it doesn't seem like any of the other guys are doing enough to be anything beyond replacement level MLB guys. I had hope for Reynolds but he hasn't made much of an impact. Cechhini seems to be hurt all the time, Nimmo seems to be a lost cause. I feel like the farm is a bit drained right now on +WARP guys.

60 days might be a bit much, I think you have to treat this like they did with Strasburg, I believe they put him on the dl twice. Send Matt down to Florida for a couple of weeks, put Verrett in his place, and then see what happens in a couple of weeks.

As for prospects those are three of our big prospects, Rosario and Smith aren't close to being ready, Herrera is killing it down in Vegas, they should call him up now and put Walker at first. Nimmo has been in the minors forever, I doubt he will ever be a major factor in this organization. I like Cechinni, but ya he is hurt a lot.

not really sure what that ump was thinking. it wasnt even close to hitting him but it got the point across. might as well drill him next time.

It was a joke, he should lose his job for it, he put himself above the game.

Long time Mets fan here.

1) What Utley did last year was what players were taught to do for generations. Unfortunately, a guy was badly injured which is why baseball, which pays a lot to these players, has decided to crack down on it.

2) Utley killed the Mets for years as a Philly. That's what he was supposed to do.

3) If Utley had been on the Mets over the years, he'd be one of our favorite players.

4) Utley already got plunked last year in 'revenge' for his slide into Tejada. That should have been the end of it.

5) Throwing the ball behind Utley certainly intimidated him, didn't it? What 'message' was sent?

6) Yes the Ump over-reacted and he should be disciplined by the league for doing that.

All-in-all, that wasn't "Baseball like it oughta be!"

I hate Utley, but have a ton of respect for him, he is a great player. The whole point of throwing behind him is to send a message without hitting him. That ump had no right throwing him out, first of all he didn't hit him, and no warnings were even issued. He should be severely punished.

Duda, D'Arnaud and Wright are out. Harvey and DeGrom are trying to find themselves and suddenly Familia can't get anybody out.

Maybe it will all work out in the end?

de aza starts against lefty, grandy and conforto sit. and thats with duda, d'arnaud and wright already out with injuries.

ladies and gentleman, terry collins.

The bottom of this lineup is awful, Campbell is a waste of space.

Terry man...

Harvey looked pretty awesome at least

Happy Harvey Day!

A few quick thoughts as a life long Mets fan:
  1. Saturday night was a disgrace, plain and simple, for numerous reasons, the biggest of which is a pitcher got tossed on a ball that threatened no one;
  2. The current Mets lineup is starting to resemble the awful one from last year, which looked more like a AAA lineup. Someone mentioned it, but facing a lefty, you were left with what, three professional hitters (Cabrera, Cespedes and Walker [Lagares and Flores are passable]);
  3. Moneyball baseball is the most overblown sports phenomenon of my lifetime. Beane was on to something by taking mature, college pitchers and relief specialists. But this all or nothing hitting approach is straight dog . It worked a little with the Giambi's et al because they were all roided-up to the teeth. It worked with theo in Boston and is working with the Cubs, because lets face it, those payrolls are anything but modest. Give me teams like the Royals, Cardinals and Giants every day come playoffs, when the strike zones diminish, the weather gets colder, and the pressure mounts. Which brings me to
  4. The Mets can be a downright dreadful team to watch offensively. The approaches i see are deplorable. Thank god they hit a few homers here and there, but if Degrom and Harvey can't get back to being unbeatable, not way they beat a decent team in a play off series.
  5. Mets need to find a way to buy out David Wright. Once great player. Great person. He's a shell and is tying up all kinds of money. That's why i thought it was a mistake letting murphy go (admittedly the walker signing was a good one). He could have platooned with Wright and Herrera.

Moneyball wasn't even Beane's idea- it was Alderson's. But you can't tell that from the movie. Wright was actually hot when he got hurt again- 3 home runs in 3 games. The bad line-up would seem to be temporary. I think Loney is a good pick-up. The other guys will be back. I do agree that the Mets are far too dependent on the home run. The fences may ahve been moved in at Citi but it was built to be a pitcher's park. You need to be able to manufacture runs when you aren't hitting it over the fence. I had hoped that they would have locked at the Royals and decided they need to do some of the things they were doing but i guess they ignored that.
