Kelly Cowan (Channel 5) just quoted that as the percentage of free throws we are hitting in the last 5 minutes of games this year. We are hitting the same percentage in ACC game. We are at 65% overall, which is 294th in the country.

Yeah, I just saw that on Channel 3 - but their graphic erroneously displayed FG instead of FT.

Free throws (missed late ones) will probably emerge as the primary factor to blame for SU's close losses.

Here is the best free throw shooter in the world. He shoots somewhat like Cooney, I think.

Firstly, making a lot of free throws in succession when you aren't in a game and someone is immediately throwing the ball back to you so you can try another one is not the same- or even very similar to making them in a game. Secondly, if you did have a designated free throw shooter who never missed, the result would be so dull that they shortly eliminate it or find another way of punishing someone for fouling. St Martin's shooting style seems to be to flick the ball at the basket in something akin to a two-hand chest pass, with his arms on either side of the ball. None of that 90 degree elbow, perpendicular to the ground stuff here.

For years Rick Barry had the highest career free throw percentage, although he's since been surpassed:

He Rick explains his under-handed style to Red Auerbach:

BY the way, Jamaal Wilkes was a .759 shooter. Not as good as Rick but still very good.
