According to Gary, Boeheim just had his 1000th win

Should Hopkins be charged with losses taking over someone else's team?

While I do think Hopkins shouldn't accrue the losses, the whole "someone else's team" BS that's been spewed around since it happened is just insane. Hop has been a part of the program for such a long time, knows every player since they were in high school, and is a part of practice day in and day out. If it is someone else's team then it's going to be someone else's team Hop's first year, 75% someone else's team the year after, 50% the year after that, 25% the year after that and finally 5 years after he takes over he'll have "his" team.

If any assistant coach in America was more equipped to take over for a HC I think Hopkins would be that guy.

disclaimer: This is not a knock on Hop at all, we stunk even with JB at the helm and even lost to St John's this year with JB back.

Well in that case the 101 "vacated" wins should not count. Logic assumes punishment was warranted and consistent.

No, Boeheim won those games. We saw them and people wrote newspaper articles about them. The NCAA's post hoc make-believe game doesn't change that, though they'll pretend it does for a couple years.

For the four games Hopkins won last year, Boeheim had nothing to do with the coaching, so of course he didn't win them. That'll remain the case forever.

Boeheim recruited and coached that team. The strategies employed were his. Hopkins made the in-game decisions but that doesn't mean Boeheim "had nothing to do with the coaching". Again, there's no difference between that and when he was out for his operation back in 2001.

Generally, if a coach misses a game or limited amount of games due to a temporary illness, transportation
trouble, etc, the wins or losses by the team in his or her absence will usually go to the head coach

SUSPENDED COACH
If a head coach is suspended for a game or more by the school or conference, he or she is still eligible
to receive the wins or losses in his or her absence, but some institutions have chosen to give the record
to the interim coach

Understand that perspective. However the precedent has been set that there is no dependency that a coach physically sit on the bench in order to be credited for the win. I can likewise understand the perspective that the same discretion fall on the institution for an action imposed by an inconsistent, arbitrary, and some would argue corrupt body. Boeheim 1000.
