Add Denver to the list...

Of all the teams other than Syracuse who could have won, I'm fine with Denver. I think that it's good for the sport to have someone other than a traditional power win, particularly a school west of the Mississippi.

Maryland fans have to be at their wits end. Bridesmaid yet again and not really competitive today either.

good for denver. but they will still bow to the mercy of atlantic coast teams scheduling.

I wonder if the UD victory will prompt the University of Colorado to jump from the MCLA to D1. They've been in the MCLA National Championship game 2 years in a row winning it last year. Solid program. With Air Force if they could get CU and CSU they might be able to get themselves a little league. Some good lacrosse being played in the Denver high schools.

Adding Men's LAX (12.6 scholarships) means adding another Women's sport to keep the Title IX people happy.

With the exception of Michigan, all the other schools which recently added MLAX don't have FBS Football teams.

agreed. however they could also cut out a men's a sport instead of adding a women's.

It's not that easy to cut a Men's sport. What sport would you eliminate at SU to add Hockey?

Denver's in the Big East.
Air Force is currently playing as an Independent.

There's not really a league that far West for CU and CSU to join.

You're adding a non-revenue sport w/o a conference affiliation, and you'd have to play half your schedule on the road two timezones away. And there's no guarantee of success (unless a successful East Coast coach wants to move out West to start over).

It's not impossible ... but it's close.

With the revenue being made by the Pac 12, schools wouldn't need to cut a men's sport to add sports, and it's possible that the league uses the need for more network programming to push schools to add.

This is much closer to explaining what's stopping the growth in the FBS than money is. Finding the money is always a concern, but balancing the Title IX numbers is a bigger one. CU already has a WLax team, so they'd have to find another to add to get the Title IX numbers right. Field hockey?
