An amazing stat/fact

With loss by Dion Waiters it's been 36 years since a Syracuse player has competed in NBA Finals

Its crazy that there have only been 3 players to play in an nba finals. Its crazy that its been 36 years. Its crazy that no one has been a significant contributor on an nba finals team, let alone a winner.

I dont see it changing in the near future, either.

It's interesting how historically, the SU basketball team has had more success than the SU football team, but SU football is just light-years better represented in terms of accomplishments at the next level.

Well, there are ~53 players on each NFL team and ~15 on each NBA team.

Even so - it's quality not quantity in football. We don't put tons of guys in the NFL, but the ones we do have been very good.

I don't put much stock in things like this. It's a small sample of players, and one could just as easily ended up on one of the NBA powers of the last 50 years and then no one would be talking about this. How about the fact that this program has produced one Hall of Fame player, one Hall of Fame coach, and another future lock for the Hall of Fame?

Closest it came was Dion in Cleveland. The Carmelo Knicks are a lost cause, maybe Carmelo teams up with LeBron late in his career and makes a run. Maybe MCW winds up on a contender and can be the Shaun Livingston to the Spurs.

Rakeem came close. He was a Cav for a second, looked decent on the Cavs summer league team last year, but Cleveland needed "assets" -- a 2019 second-round pick -- more than a "poor man's" Tristan Thompson. Too bad, love Rakeem.
