20-16: Premature men's lacrosse rankings for 2017, Part 1
15-11: Premature men's lacrosse rankings for 2017, Part 2
10-6: Premature men's lacrosse rankings for 2017, Part 3
5-1: Premature men's lacrosse rankings for 2017, Part 4
9. Syracuse (12-5; quarterfinals)
Losses: Five starters including defensemen and second-team All-American Brandon Mullins (41 GB, 31 CT) and Jay McDermott (15 GB, 5 CT).
Returns: Five starters including three of the team’s top five scorers in redshirt junior midfielder Sergio Salcido (29 G, 24 A), junior midfielder Nick Mariano (35 G, 11 A) and junior attackman Jordan Evans (27 G, 8 A).
Reason for pessimism: An offense that ranked eighth in the nation at 12.5 goals per game will have to find a new leader after the graduation of attackman and first-team All-American Dylan Donahue (29 G, 32 A).
Reason for optimism: The Orange should get plenty of chances to test opposing defenses courtesy of junior faceoff specialist and second-team All-American Ben Williams, who finished 10th in the country in faceoff percentage (62.2 percent on 232-for-373) and seventh in ground balls (111).
