For those of you who may not remember the story

Elliott played a season at American River Junior College, where he was named a JC All-American. One story says he then signed a letter of intent to play for Clemson, but because he was academically ineligible, he transferred instead to Syracuse. In the video he says he was at Arizona State. He arrived here with a snow board and his girlfriend. During preseason drills, Elliott was rumored to have a chance to start, but again academics became a problem. Eventually, he left without ever having played a down for the Orangemen. He ended up playing in the Arena League.

Here is today at 32 in a darkened room talking about his abilities and regrets. He talks about how Syracuse envisioned him and how he views himself at that time.

He makes an appeal to any NFL team to take a chance on him.

That was just bizarre...laughable, sad, depressing. I ran the gamut of emotions.
Right from the opening music it was strange. I don't want to run the kid down, so I'll resist saying some of the things that jump to mind. But I think I see why he didn't make it. And in closing, perhaps the best line was, "I don't want to toot my own horn, but I'm the smartest guy I know."

Nine minutes in: "I really didn't apply myself". That could be the problem.

Youth is wasted on the young.

He may not want the NFL to listen to his other posts to the right. He discusses evolution and the universe. If you hired him, you'd have to listen to his lectures on these subjects.

Apparently he just posted these yesterday and today.

I was wondering if those incoming text messages were from NFL teams.

Youth is wasted on the young.

He is a prime example of this. Can you imagine the regret he will have at 40, 50, 60 years of age for being such a "knucklehead" with his wasted opportunity at SU?

Didn't Chad actually dress for the opener that year?

Was that the University of Buffalo game at night in the Dome?

Isn't it true that he suited up, participated in warm-ups, stood on the sideline and was therafter declared ineligible?

I find it laughable that he thinks he is comparable to Kurt Warner but better. News flash Chad, you can't carry his jock strap as a player, person, leader, or a man.

Chad Elliot was the first in a long line of QB hopefuls who were going to fill the shoes of the departed Donvan McNabb. 13 years later, we're still waiting for even an above average QB to emerge.

I'd say that in those 13 years, we've had maybe two solid / acceptable seasons of QB play [Nunes's senior year and RJ's senior year]. You could make the argument that two other years--Paulus and Nassib last year--were solid [but far from great].

That's a L-O-N-G drought.

For whatever reason it is true that we have been unable to replace Donovan McNabb.

So much bad luck - Chad Elliott is just one more story.

The one that still sticks in my craw is Joe Daily. I have no doubt that he would have succeeded in DeLeone's offense - I think he would have had a very nice college career and would have helped develope the program.

The loss of Joe to Nebraska was nothing short of crushing.

Yes he did. Back when PP was in charge the QB's would always gather at center field about an hour before kickoff. I remember seeing him (#17 I think), RJ Anderson, Nunes...Maybe Cecil Howard (#7) at that game too(so long ago)?

In my opinion, 2010 Nassib is head and shoulders better than 2002 Nunes or 2003 RJ.

In general, I'm pro-Nassib, but I don't share that opinion. We also throw a lot more now than we did then, so the statistics will be skewed.

I acknowledge that Nunes / 2002 was a pretty bad year, and that we weren't much better as a team the following year, either [RJ]. It is a pretty sad commentary on the 13 years post-McNabb that two years like that [or even Nassib 2010] are the "best" we've had.

16) Perry Patterson 2005 130/273 1504 yards 6TD 11int rating: 93.09

Comment: the QB rating is a pretty screwy stat. The numbers that really count are TD passes vs. interceptions and Nassib is way ahead of the post-McNabb pack on that score.

I was trying to look up when Elliott was here. He made it sound as if he was brought in to 'replace' McNabb but apparenlty it was a couple of years later: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/recruiting/news/2000/03/02/watch/

Could Jared Jones have been in that group?

If I'm not mistaken, that was the night we wasted Johnnie Morant's redshirt. Really bad move.

Of all the mistakes he made, why did he bring a girlfriend to ASU? I've heard the one thing you absolutely have no need for at ASU is a girlfriend.

Eh, I think time makes us forget players faults -- or at least smooths them over. Forget QB rating -- it's a pointless number. Nassib and Nunes threw TDs at almost the exact same rate (about 5%), but Nassib has done that with an INT rate of 1.9% while Nunes was at exactly the same as his TD rate (5%). I feel like Nassib has been much better.

This video is priceless for so many reasons.

"Am I smart? ... I don't wanna toot my own horn, but I'm probably the smartest guy that I know." :bat:

I expected to see that the vid was uploaded on 4/1.

BUMP

Chad Elliot's name came up in another thread, and when I searched for him, I came across this thread. Too bad the video listed in the OP is no longer online--would have made for an interesting watch.
