What Happened: ACC Tourney picture got focus

Takeaway: It was nothing short of a wild week in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Notre Dame got to kick back after topping Marquettein overtime during the week. Syracuse dropped a mid-week overtime game to Cornell but turned around to rip North Carolina 13-7 this past weekend. Those results are exhibit No. 1 on how wild this season has been: down one minute, on top of the pile the next. With the win the Orange clinched a berth in the ACC Tournament. Despite the setback to the Orange, UNC can still clinch the No. 1 seed in the ACC tourney if it beats Notre Dame this weekend. Will we see the Heels who crushed Virginia or fell flat against Syracuse?

Meanwhile, Duke knocked off Virginia 14-8 to grab a spot in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils have now beaten the Cavaliers in 16 of the last 17 meetings. The Cavaliers have not won an ACC regular season game since March 2014, a mind-boggling reality. Duke had the usual suspects lead the way as Deemer Class (5G) and Myles Jones (2, 4) helped ruin Senior Day in Charlottesville. With the loss, UVa will be placed in the showcase game, or the Mulligan, for the third straight year. The Wahoos have won the previous two (UNC 2014, Penn 2015), essentially getting them into the NCAA Tournament, where they were bounced twice at home by Hopkins. Brown is the opponent this time around, and I just don’t see the Cavaliers beating them. First, however, Virginia needs to get by Georgetown. The prospects of a postseason are not looking good for Virginia.
