ESPN reporting...

No way they vacate all 10 years, not gonna happen, hysteria is runnin wild in the grove right now. If it was UNC bad, then maybe, but personally, I see something similar to uconn, "lack of institutional control" or however they word it. SU will survive this, my worry is if JB will also, right or wrong, for all he's done, it's not the way I envisioned his swan song being. Hoping I'm wrong

In June 2010 we were docked 2 scholarships because of the APR penalties. JB smartly during the 2009-2010 season only used 10 scholarships he took the penalty during that season and the NCAA accepted that. JB would be smart this year not to put 2 walkons on scholarships and only use 10 scholarships this year and he can say Syracuse self-imposed a 2 scholarship reduction during the 2014-2015 to show some contriteness to the NCAA and atleast attempt to get some leniency.

This is what I thought we were trying to do. Take the scholarship hit this year, and show we have been proactive docking ourselves scholarships, and we already rearranged the academic advisor side. That and wins most likely coming off the board. Just try everything to avoid a post season ban.

I just have a funny feeling that the improper benefits have something to do with those gloves that Michael Carter Williams was sporting when he got shaken down at the Mall. It's also been rumored that Fab was having his tab picked up at ... well, ya all know where. Southerland was being illegally compensated for soundbytes that they were using to market whoopee cushions. It will all be crystal clear come the end of next week. In the mean time...why worry about something we have absolutely no control over? I've suffered through so much crap in my life that never ended up happening.

I am sure we are going to say this during the committee hearing next week. It makes too much sense if we don't.

I think we should say. "You guys are on your way out, no need to take us down with you. Go ahead smack my hand until you feel better. We'll let you without a fuss and you'll look better to the public."

Considering the two open scholarships were the result of players unexpectedly leaving early, not an intentional strategy to self-impose sanctions, I'd be shocked if they let us get away with that. But where the NCAA is concerned, predictions are impossible

But we didn't fill them because we felt so bad. We didn't even give any walk-ons schollies like usual.

What kind of punishment would that be? Taking away two scholarships this year that we're not using... I doubt that would fly with the NCAA.

And we only have one walk-on who was even on the team last year but hey - can't hurt to try right?

Its exactly the kind of punishment I would like. Sort of like we know we screwed up dad but look at what our brothers and sisters get away with. Lets just pretend I was really bad and this discipline makes me suffer so Mother feels like she is raising me right.

I hope so. But I have a feeling the NCAA would just love to really hammer a P5 program at this time to show they are still in control of the P5.

I agree they would like to, but the rebound from that would actual lose them more control much faster IMO and I'm counting on someone there being smart enough to remember that they need to follow the money which is mainly P5 football.

"Mother, do you think they'll try to break... my balls? Oooh, ahh, mother should I build a wall?"

That may be true, but right now the NCAA doesn't have a leg to stand on, credibility wise, and they've never been more vulnerable to having the legitimacy of their enforcement be [rightly] questioned. They aren't going to be hammering anyone.

And a more likelier candidate is UNC--with this unprecendented academic fraud on such a grand scale.

At the end of the day, the vast majority of stuff that they're investigating for us is small potatoes. Players were suspended, policies were followed, compliance changes have occurred, people have been removed from jobs.

It does seem that with the allegations against UNC they might want to go a little easy on us because if even a fraction of UNC's allegations are true they'll have to come down harder on them. Unless something bigger comes out about us.

All I can say now is hope for the best but prepare for the worse. Hopefully JB keeps his mouth shut this time.

If the NCAA hist SU with a post season ban I would like to see the current players file suit against the NCAA. It's beyond ridiculous that the NCAA punishes current student athletes that were not at SU during the time of the violations. Its time the NCAA was smacked hard for this. The punishment should be levied against the school in the form of a fine and not be punitive to kids who had nothing to do with the violations.

This has always been my biggest beef with the NCAA. They never think of the kids. If they commit to a school and then the coach leaves, they are "stuck" there. If our program did something in let's say 2006, and the players are here in 2014 (and were in 3rd grade when the infraction occurred), and we can't go to a tournament, they are now stuck at a school where they can not play in something that has been a life long dream. And they can't leave without penalties. So the players always get screwed. The wrong people end up getting punished by the NCAA over and over and over. Do they not see anything wrong with this picture. Only for Penn St. did they let the players leave without sanctions. It was their greatest moment.

Also lets not forget that our Chancellor has a stellar legal background. This may be something new for an NCAA hearing where there is school representation with a legal mind that can probably run circles around the NCAA. Syverud was a litigation specialist, has run 2 law schools, clerked for Sandra Day O'Connor. I think he will quietly and brilliantly shred the NCAA to pieces, or that is my hope.

Good point about UNC. Glad that came out about the same time to take some of the heat and media coverage off us. Dennis Dodd on CBS already said UNC should get the death penalty. (But he knows they won't). He's usually pretty even-keel too. Usually Gregg Doyle is the one making statements like that.

My sources tell me they're looking into the recruitment of Jim Brown, Dave Bing & Vanessa Williams.
Aren't these stories not supposed to come out until St Patty's Day?

I love the way some of these media guys call for he death penalty so casually without even considering how many innocent people in the community of the school would get badly hurt especially all the retail stores and restaurants that rely on game day traffic.

I believe all were actually given *extra benefit* scholarship money as part if their Irish heritage. However that Irish heritage is exactly what the NCAA is now investigating. I hope they have all spent their St. Patty's Days at the pubs over the years.

I believe this was one of the main reasons that PSU didn't get the death penalty.
