If they stay at that level until the playoffs it would make me feel better about that game. they played well and we played awful, but if both teams play worse its gonna be a long season

As of today, Sagarin has Villanova as the #94 team in the country. That places them as the 7th highest ranked FCS team. It also places them ahead of the following 41 FBS teams:
Rice(95), San Jose St(96), Ball State(97), Akron(98), UTSA(100), UNLV(101), Middle Tennessee(102), Ohio(104), Wyoming(105), Army(111), Purdue(112), W Kentucky(113), Wake Forest(114), UConn(115), La Tech(117), Tulane(118), Hawaii(120), Tulsa(122), Central Michigan(124), Fla Atlantic(125), UL Monroe(126), Buffalo(129), Troy(131), Texas State(135), New Mexico(137), Kent State(138), GA Southern(140), UAB(143), UTEP(144), Old Dominion(145), W Michigan(147), Southern Miss(148), Idaho(150), Appalachian State(151), Air Force(153), Miami (OH) (167), Fla Intl (176), NM State(187), UMass(189), GA State(191), Eastern Michigan(192)

I'm not trying to spin what happened Friday. I still don't like a lot of what I saw from us, but the idea that we played some kind of high school all-star team is misguided. A lot of casual fans (as well as some diehards) struggle with the idea that the top 10 FCS teams are better than a lot of non-BCS schools. That doesn't make it any less true, though.

Of note: Sagarin has Nova is ranked 30 spots higher than our next opponent.

Well, I guess we'd beat Eastern Michigan...

I was actually looking for Syracuse to be listed somewhere in that batch of 41 teams, I guess that shows how painful that game felt! great post and I agree, no spin here, just some info to hopefully calm everyone just a bit.

Why isn't there a Southern Michigan? :noidea:

Because Eastern Michigan is really in Southern Michigan so they've got it all covered.

Toledo would have been Southern Michigan but those bistards from Ohio stole it from them in their mini-civil war.

They got the UP for it -- a deal you'd make every day of the week.

You mean to tell me Michigan stole the U P from Whisky after they lost the Toledo river skirmish to Ahia .

Michigan and Ohio might now be known their longstanding football rivalry, but the two states once nearly went to war over a border dispute. The argument began in 1803, when the newly formed state of Ohio took ownership of a sliver of land containing the town of Toledo. Michigan territory later disputed Ohio’s claim on this “Toledo strip” in the 1830s, launching a heated debate that teetered on the edge of violence for several weeks.

In what became known as the Toledo War, both sides wrestled for political control of the territory, and both raised militias to defend against a possible invasion by the other. Desperate for Ohio’s valuable electoral votes, President Andrew Jackson finally intervened in 1835, and by 1836 a compromise was sealed. The détente saw Michigan territory relinquish its claim on the Toledo strip in exchange for statehood and a portion of the Upper Peninsula. Many viewed the decision as a grave injustice, but some residents of the disputed region were quick to accept their newfound status as Ohioans. When one woman learned of the decision, she is said to have quipped, “Thank the Lord, I never did like that Michigan weather anyway.”
