Welcome to Intergalactic Star Wars Day!
As you all may know, I am not only a huge Star Wars nerd, but I also am a mystic of the Jedi religion. Yes, you may call me ridiculous or accuse me of following a false religion, but just wait until the Force gets you back. Now let us get straight to the point of Intergalactic Star Wars Day.
This special day is held on the 4th of May. During this day, all citizens of Earth may be included in the celebrations and rituals. The main celebrations of this day are usually marathons of Star Wars movies or TV shows, and playing any Star Wars video games. To brush up on your Star Wars lore, I recommend visiting Wookiepedia and researching anything you have questions with. This is just a quick little post to let you all know to wear your Jedi Cloaks and eat all your Bantha noodle soup!

Orange to Play St John's December 21st in Carrier Dome (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
The of the Syracuse Orange's biggest priorities since leaving the Big East for the ACC has been keeping a presence in New York City. For better or worse, that means playing the St. John's Red Storm more often than not.
We already knew this game would be happening during the 2016-17 season, and now we know when it will take place. As confirmed by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein yesterday, St. John's will head up to the Carrier Dome to face SU on December 21. It's the fourth consecutive meeting between the teams since the Orange departed the conference it founded with St. John's (and others). The Red Storm have won two straight matchups in the series, though the game has still been short of a "rivalry" for the last couple decades.
The December 21 date is the latest confirmed for the 2016-17 non-conference schedule. Yesterday also brought us the date for the long-hoped-for UConn game at Madison Square Garden. Syracuse will meet the former rival Huskies on December 5.

ile we continue to wait for Syracuse Orange football to get its house in order with regard to future scheduling, Syracuse Orange basketball is busy locking up opponents for the 2016-17 season. The latest name? The familiarConnecticut Huskies.
The former Big East rivals took a couple years off following Syracuse's departure to the ACC in 2013, but met once again in the Battle 4 Atlantis last fall. SU won that matchup by the skin of their teeth, and then beat Texas A&M in the championship.
Now, according to the Hartford Courant, the teams will be facing off on December 5 at the friendly confines of Madison Square Garden. The Courant's Dom Amore also notes that the teams could also have an additional game ready to go the following year, also at MSG, plus additional talks continue around an annual series either at MSG or a home-and-home.
Details around the December 5, 2016 date have already reached agreement (according to sources cited by the Courant). The contract is currently in review and just needs to complete that step before official announcements are made. Any subsequent games could potentially take more time to confirm.
That makes two Syracuse games in the five boroughs now for 2016-17. The Orange are also scheduled to face the South Carolina Gamecocks at the Barclays Center as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Invitational. SU also has home games confirmed against Holy Cross, Monmouth, South Carolina State, Georgetown and St. John's. They'll also get a likely road game out of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this year. All told, that's eight games already locked in for the team's 2016-17 non-conference schedule, with five more to go.

Renewing a Great Rivalry: UConn Men to Play Syracuse at MSG December 5th (courant.com; Amore)
The UConn-Syracuse men's basketball rivalry has been renewed. There will be a game between the Huskies and Orange at Madison Square Garden in New York on Dec. 5. And they could make this a regular event.
The schools, longtime rivals in the old Big East, have been talking about playing as nonconference opponents since Syracuse left for the ACC after the 2012-13 season. According to multiple sources, the agreement is complete, the contract is in the final review process, and the game should be announced shortly.
And there is a strong possibility of extending the series beyond next season: UConn and Syracuse are also close to agreement to play in the annual Jimmy V Classic at the Garden the following season, the first week of December in 2017.
Beyond that, talks are ongoing to continue meeting, either in an annual game at Madison Square Garden, or perhaps as a home-and-home series.
UConn and Syracuse, original members of the Big East, have played 91 times, with Syracuse holding a 55-36 edge. They frequently played in the Big East Tournament at MSG, including the six-OT game won by the Orange in 2009. They last played as conference rivals at the XL Center in February 2013, UConn winning, 66-58.

UM Fan Favorite Spike Albrecht Picks Purdue (detroitnews.com; Paul)
Spike Albrecht got the Big Ten waiver, and used it.
Albrecht, the popular and now former Michigan point guard, announced on Twitter on Tuesday morning that he will transfer to Purdue.
It kicked off a day of movement for Michigan, which announced later Tuesday that sophomore swingman Kameron Chatman also is transferring. He joins Albrecht, Ricky Doyle and Aubrey Dawkins, who will play for his father, Johnny, the new head coach at Central Florida.
Albrecht, being a graduate transfer, he will have one year of eligibility remaining, and will be able to play right away, in 2016-17. Chatman, Doyle and Dawkins all will have to sit out a year but have two years of eligibility remaining, unless they transfer to a Big Ten school, in which case, as undergraduates, they would lose a season of eligibility.
Purdue, in West Lafayette, Indiana, is about an hour-and-a-half south of Albrecht's hometown of Crown Point, Indiana.
Albrecht looked strongly at several Indiana schools, including Indiana and, reportedly, Butler. He recently cancelled a trip to Syracuse, a sign a decision was imminent.

Meet the Man Whose Job It is to Boost the CNY Film Industry (PS; Knauss)
Two years ago, as state officials laid the groundwork for a newCentral New York film hub in DeWitt, Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney hired the county's first film commissioner to sell TV and film producers on the Syracuse region.
Syracuse native Eric Vinal, 33, was hired in March 2014, one day before Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced plans for the $15 million film hub at Collamer Crossings Business Park.
Onondaga County is hardly unique in having a film commissioner. Vinal joins more than a dozen counterparts across the state, in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Saratoga, Yonkers and elsewhere.
What's the job?
Technically, Vinal is a senior economic development specialist for Onondaga County, a competitive civil-service position. His salary is $53,538.
Vinal's mission is to promote TV and film production in Central New York. He has an office at the state-owned film hub, the focal point of state and county efforts to create a new film industry in Onondaga County.
