Welcome to National Hot Fudge Sundae!

Every year on the 25th day of July, children and adults alike have the perfect excuse to indulge in a decadent frozen dessert, for on this day National Hot Fudge Sundae Day is celebrated all across the United States.1 Given some of the more obscure food holidaysthat are granted their own dates (such as National Jump for Jelly Beans Day and Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day, for example), it is more than fitting that this classic American favorite gets a holiday all to itself. So break out the spoons and start heating up some fudge, for there is some sundae eating to be done!

Art of the deal: How Swofford, ACC, ESPN reached agreement to launch ACC Network (newsobserver.com; Carter)

For nearly seven years they’d been talking, in varying degrees of seriousness, about an ACC channel – first about if it was possible and then about the details, financial and otherwise, after it became clear that it had to be. And now John Swofford and Dean Jordan had reached the end.

They needed to eat. It was a Friday night, June 24 – still nearly one month before the ACC announced the ACC Network, the ESPN-backed channel that is scheduled to launch in 2019. Most of the details had been finalized. It was pretty much done, finally.

Swofford, the ACC Commissioner, and Jordan, a longtime friend who is the conference’s chief television consultant, were on Ocean Isle Beach. It was the last night of Jordan’s annual vacation, the one time of year he tries to go off the grid. It was impossible this year.

That Friday night, the most difficult labor was in the past. There was going to be an ACC Network, after all. The ACC and ESPN had agreed to extend their long relationship through the 2035-36 college sports calendar.

Syracuse Basketball Recruiting: Orange Make 2017 Recruit Nick Richards’ Top Five (TNIAAM; Caray)

The big 2017 center includes Syracuse in his top five which he released earlier this week.

ESPN’s Jeff Borzello is reporting that Nick Richards has trimmed his list to five schools. The list includes the Syracuse Orange along with UConn, Indiana, Arizona, and Kentucky. Richards is a 6-foot 11 inch center in the Class of 2017. ESPN ranks Richards as the eighth overall prospect in his class.

Richards discussed the schools that are going after him the hardest:

“Syracuse, UConn and Kentucky have been coming for me the most, to be honest,” Richards said.

The Queens, NY native plays for The Patrick School in New Jersey, a Catholic school that plays in one of the toughest high school basketball leagues in the country. Richards averaged 12.2 points, 12.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in the well-respected Peach Jam AAU tournament.

The lengthy center would be an ideal fit in Syracuse’s 2-3 zone and a great rim protector. Richards is also a tremendous rebounder and is active on the glass getting second chance points. This makes up for his offense, which has not fully developed.

A Crowd At Capacity, An Event Well Planned, And A Ball Game Down To The Wire (viconsortium.com)

Eventgoers started pouring into the Central High School Gymnasium here at around 3:00 p.m. About two hours later, the crowd would be at capacity, as countless filled the bleachers in support of Virgin Islander and Indian Pacers NBA player Rakeem Christmas’ Christmas in July affair, which included a host of charity occasions, Saturday’s Charity Basketball Game being the culmination of those events this year.

From start to finish, the event was handled with intricate detail and seamless transition. The VIP section was an actual prized possession, with ticket holders being blessed with courtside seats and food service. A three-point shooting contest kicked off activities, followed by an exhilarating dunk-out contest that served as an excellent introduction to the game itself.

And all throughout the game, the organizers included mini events that served to either honor past local ball players, or to keep the eventgoers engaged with short contests that enlisted crowd participation, with winners being awarded gifts and a picture with Mr. Christmas.

Mr. Christmas — a freshman in the NBA — has set out to repair every dilapidated basketball court in the territory over the next several years, an outsize initiative that sees the NBA player tackling one court at a time and enlisting the aid of the community — and his influential friends on and off the court — to help him achieve this vision.

If last night’s game was any indication of the community’s intention to support Mr. Christmas’ efforts, is was the best signal that anyone could ask for as every seat was occupied, and organizers, at one point, had to ask attendees to abstain from venturing outside the gymnasium, as there were people on the outside trying to come in. The event took three months of planning, and was helmed locally by Sheniko Frett, the direct assistant to Amira Hamid-Joseph, Mr. Christmas’ aunt and manager, who is also the head of the Rakeem Christmas Foundation.

“The proceeds we get from the events go towards building and repairing all the courts here and in St. Thomas,” Mr. Christmas told The Consortium Monday of the Charity Basketball Game event held yesterday. “I’m going to try to do one each year. We’re going to try our best and see what happens from there.” He brought two of his former Syracuse teammates, who now play in the NBA themselves, to boost the event.

Syracuse Makes Brandon Randolph's Final 12 (oregon.24.7sports.com; Prehm)

Dana Altman and the Oregon men's basketball program made the cut for Top 50 shooting guard Brandon Randolph.

The 6-foot-6 Class of 2017 wing from Yonkers, NY announced his list of 12 schools on Twitter Sunday afternoon.

Randolph listed Louisville, Alabama, Miami, Arizona, Indiana, Notre Dame, Oregon, North Carolina, Kansas, Syracuse, Xavier, and Wake Forest.

I truly would like to thank all 29 schools that have been recruiting me. honored and blessed‼️ This my Big 12:pic.twitter.com/mUKcgo7WVT

Randolph's inclusion of the Oregon Ducks is big news for the west coast program. The Ducks offered him a scholarship after Dana Altman saw him work out at the end of April during an evaluation period.

The Ducks are currently operating with three available scholarships for the class of 2017, but that number could grow to as many as six scholarships should a few current players decide to declare for the NBA Draft in 2017.

Oregon is hoping to sign one point guard, one wing, and then a post player.

Randolph is considered to be one of the nation's best three-point shooters in the class of 2017.

During the EYBL this spring and summer, Randolph averaged 16.5 points and shot 40 percent from three in 21 games.

Quade Green announces list (aseaofblue.com; Marcum)

One of the top guards 2017 has to offer has announced his list of schools, and UK remains in the running for the five-star recruit.

While Trae Young is clearly the Kentucky Wildcats' top point guard target, Quade Green is someone UK would also love to get in 2017.

After all, we've seen John Calipari sign multiple point guards several times at UK. As the summer recruiting period is ending, it's become clear Green and Young are who Cal should want in his backcourt next year.

On Sunday, Green released his list of schools in consideration, which to no surprise, included UK.

Green, a 6-1, 172-pound guard out of Neumann Goretti in Philadelphia, is ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect and No. 4 point guard in the country by 247Sports Composite. His highest ranking comes from At their request, this network is being blocked from this site., who has him as the No. 20 recruit in 2017.

As for his list, you'll see that Arizona, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Temple, Villanova, Virginia and Xavier made it, but it's been viewed as a Duke vs UK battle since the two blue bloods offered him within a week of each other.

ACC Network creates an opportunity for expansion to 16 (keepingitheel.com; Carducci)

What does the partnership between the ACC and ESPN mean for expansion?

As you most likely know by now, ESPN and the ACC are combining forces to create a television network dedicated to ACC athletics. This ACC Network will launch in August of 2019, running through the 2035-36 academic year. In conjunction with the television network, all schools have agreed to extend their grant of rights with the conference until 2036, including Notre Dame.

The most intriguing aspect of extending the grant of rights comes along with the Fighting Irish. If the Irish were to join a conference for football before 2036, they would be obligated to join the ACC.

Adding Notre Dame football would be a huge boost for the ACC. It would also leave the conference with 15 members, an odd number for a conference.

The logical plan would be to add a 16th school to the conference, creating a balanced ACC.

Immediately, questions pop up if Notre Dame joins fully, when?

Also, who comes into the league if they pursue a 16th team?

The initial question has no indefinite answer. With that being said, Fox Sports Tim Brando believes the Irish are not far off from forgoing football independence.

Last month, Brando thought the ACC Network would be the driving force behind Notre Dame joining the ACC for football.

He said this on The Audible with Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel.

The 33rd annual three-day Great American Antiquefest which was this weekend at Long Branch Park. The event routinely attracts 100 dealers from across the United States and Canada and thousands of customers.

Antique shoppers looked to get bargains on items in areas of their interest, vintage furniture, signs and photographs of a bye gone era. There were plenty of spots at the park to sit down in the shade to beat the heat and still sip a cold lemonade.
