Welcome to World Lion Day!

Guarding our temples, adorning our flags, decorating our coins and capturing our hearts, the lion is beyond doubt the world’s most iconic species. On almost every continent, and in thousands of cultures, the lion can be found demonstrating man’s fascination with this magnificent beast.

Despite the lions’ symbolic importance throughout the ages, today they are suffering from a silent extinction across Africa and India. Knowledge of the King of Beasts’ plight is little known.

World Lion Day is the first global campaign to celebrate the importance of the lion worldwide. Since the dawn of man the lion has played an integral role in our lives: symbolically, religiously, culturally, economically and biologically. To lose the lion from our world would be to lose part of our global heritage.

Wherever you may be, join us on August 10th to celebrate the lion, create much needed conservation awareness and help us save the King of Beasts and his kingdom.

Syracuse basketball recruiting: Orange contending for 4-star Matt Coleman (TNIAAM; Weinheimer)

Syracuse is in the top ten for yet another big-time recruit.

Class of 2017 point guard Matt Coleman narrowed his list to ten schools, with the Orange right in the thick of them. As reported by Ben Sigel of CuseNation.com, Coleman has quite the list:

Syracuse, Virginia, Seton Hall, Texas, Stanford, Washington, Arizona, Xavier, Louisville, and NC State all made Coleman’s list.

“Coach Autry reasches out every other day,” he told CuseNation.com a few weeks ago. “They haven’t officially offered yet. They will though.

“They fit my style and I’d be playing in the ACC,” is just a few reasons why he likes the Orange.

Coleman is yet another huge talent in the 2017 class that is considering the Orange. He is a four-star recruit that is rated as the eighth-best player at his position in his class by 247Sports.

Who is the best Syracuse player to never play in an NBA game? (TNIAAM; Keeley)

This week’s Reddit-inspired question involves a topic that might make some Syracuse Orange fans feel a little sensitive.

We all know that there’s a perception about Syracuse basketball players and their lack of success in the NBA. Of course, you and I know that there are plenty of Orange alums who have done well in the pros, not to mention we’re currently one of the best places to go to college if you want to be a first-round pick.

But, because of the way talent translates from college to the pros, there are always those guys who do well in school but their game just doesn’t translate to the big show. One such guy seems to be Trevor Cooney, who will leave SU with two Final Four appearances under his belt but is almost-certainly never going to suit up for an NBA squad.

He’s not the only one in that situation. And so, the question is...

Who is the best Syracuse Orange who never played a game in the NBA? Oh and let’s stick to guys who played during a time when the NBA existed (1946)...

There’s Gerry McNamara, one of the most clutch shooters and best players to ever suit up for the Orange. G-Mac spent a little bit of time on the D-League but was never able to break on through.

Syracuse Basketball: Matthew Moyer’s injury severity actually unknown (TNIAAM; Keeley)

Last week we all got a scare when we saw a photo of Syracuse Orange freshman Matthew Moyer on crutches. Moyer allied those concerns when he told CuseNation’s Ben Sigel that it wasn’t a big deal and he would be back in time for the opening of camp in October. Whew.

Perhaps we shouldn’t have put all of our faith in the player who isn’t going to say anything but positive things. Jim Boeheim commented on the injury to Mike Waters and inferred that the severity of the injury actually isn’t known and it would be premature to say when Moyer will be ready to play.

Boeheim said the extent of the injury won't be known until the end of the month.

"Medically, I'm not sure what's wrong,'' Boeheim said. "We'll have to figure out what it is. They're looking at it right now. As for the severity of it, we won't know for sure, probably, until the end of the month."

And that old familiar feeling of preseason concern for a Syracuse player’s injured leg is back again. It’s good that Moyer is upbeat, and it’s entirely possible he will be back in time for camp, but we’ve also been down this road before where a seemingly-small injury was later revealed to be something much bigger.

Jamesville girl celebrates 21 by jumping off a mountain (video) (PS; Trimble)

While most people who turn 21 steer their sights towards going to Vegas or hitting the bars for their first legal drink, Chelsea Clark of Jamesville decided to follow in her father's footsteps.

Right off a 1400 ft. cliff.

Chelsea became the newest member of her dad's Syracuse Condor Hang Gliding Club by taking her first flight at Lookout Mountain in Georgia just before her 21st birthday. "It was exhilarating! Afer 58 flights running off a 100 ft. training hill, I was 100% ready to fly off. I was exciting nervous," Chelsea said.

The proud dad, Mark Clark, shot video of his daughter progressing over the three day training session. Clark is hoping to replenish declining club enrollment by helping toregenerate interest in the sport.
