Welcome to National Drink Beer Day!

Raise a glass of your favourite ale or lager and celebrate Drink Beer Day! One of the oldest man-made beverages in history, beer has been produced since the Neolithic Era with some breweries dating back as far as 1040. It is little wonder why drinking beer has come to be such a popular and entertaining activity.

With hundreds of different new and traditional varieties available, Drink Beer Day gives all drinkers a wonderful opportunity to sample both local and internationally brewed ales and lagers.

Held annually, this exciting holiday is recognised in many different countries across the globe and taking part could not be easier. Simply gather a few friends, nip down to your nearest off-licence or supermarket and crack open a beer for a fun-packed day. Alternatively, celebrate by attending beer festivals or beer-tasting events held in your local area.

Tyler Roberson will be top-two scorer for Syracuse - The Juice Online (the juice; Goodman)

Well, we are still 5 weeks away from the first Exhibition game, which means there is nothing to do but speculate on the upcoming Syracuse Men’s Basketball team. For this installment, allow me to tell you why Tyler Roberson will be one of the top two scorers for this year’s squad.

I know, it feels like every year we speculate about Roberson making the leap, and becoming a force for the Orange. And while it may seem like senior year is a little late for a breakout campaign, it’s actually a staple for Jim Boeheim coached teams.

In fact, only twice in the last 14 years did a senior not finish in the top 2; 2007-2008 was the last time when Donte Green and junior Eric Devendorf led the charge, and before that was when a trio of underclassmen named Carmelo, Hakim, and Gerry led the guys to a National Championship in 2002-2003.

Delving further, 7 times in those 14 years a senior outright led the team in scoring.

Roberson jumping from 8.8ppg to leading the team would be a stretch, but let’s not forget that Rakeem Christmas did something even crazier as a senior – averaging 17.5ppg, a huge increase from 5.8ppg the year before.

Arizona basketball recruiting updates, visits and more (azdesertswarm.com; Sills-Trausch)

Player Updates:
  • Sean Miller visited Nick Richards who is currently “considering every school” right now. Kentucky, UConn, and Indiana were also mentioned by the five-star center, though his official top five also includes Syracuse.
  • I talked to Hamidou Diallo’s coach Thomas Espinosa about Miller’s visit last week. He said Diallo is excited about a potential future at Arizona.
  • The coaching staff checked out 2018 Jarius Hamilton, a four-star wing from North Carolina, and offered him a scholarship. UNC is favored right now.
  • Arizona was ‘in’ for Jaylen Hoard last Tuesday. The 2018 five-star wing grew up liking Arizona which puts them in great shape going forward.
  • DJ Harvey, who had U of A in his top 10, committed to Mike Brey and Notre Dame after visiting South Bend.
  • Wendell Carter Jr., the fourth-rated player in the nation per 247Sports, trimmed his list to four and did not include Arizona. He’s now down to the odd list of Duke, Harvard, Georgia, and Georgia Tech. Of the 19 predictions on 247, all 19 of them are for Duke. Also keep an eye on Gary Trent Jr. It’s been rumored that these two want to play together and Duke seems to be the likely scenario.
  • However, Sean Miller will get a shot with Trent as he’ll be on campus for the Red-Blue game. Alex Barcello and DeAndre Ayton are also expected to be on campus for the Red-Blue game and will likely be recruiting those at the gam

Joseph Brothers Head to Head

George Washington names Maurice Joseph, Kris Joseph's brother, interim basketball coach (PS; Ditota)

Maurice Joseph, the older brother of former Syracuse basketball forward Kris Joseph, has been named the head basketball coach at George Washington University.

Joseph, 31, takes over for Mike Lonergan, who was dismissed Sept. 17 following aWashington Post story that detailed Longeran's insensitive behavior toward his players and his denigration of his own athletic director. Joseph, a former player at Michigan State and Vermont, had been an assistant coach at GW for five seasons.

Central New York residents Tyler Cavanaugh and Jordan Roland play for George Washington. Cavanaugh will be one of the Atlantic 10's best players this season. The Colonials traveled to Japan to play a series of exhibition games in late summer. Lonergan was fired shortly after the team returned from that trip. He has indicated, according to the Post, that he will seek legal action against the school.

George Washington announced Joseph's hire today on its website. TheWashington Post reported that all three of Lonergan's assistants had been interviewed for the job, which came open at a precarious period. Recruiting is a fall priority for college basketball teams and the Colonials play their first game on Nov. 11.
