Elite 2017 recruit Brandon Randolph will announce college decision on Wednesday (PS; Waters)

Brandon Randolph, a top 40 prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, will announce his college decision on Wednesday.

Randolph, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, has narrowed his final list of colleges down to Syracuse, Oregon, Arizona and Wake Forest.

ESPN.com's Jeff Borzello first reported Randolph's impending announcement.

Syracuse won't be surprising anyone in 2016-17 (sbnation.com; Rutherford)

There are two routes to take when it comes to previewing the 2016-17 Syracuse basketball team, and on the surface, neither seem overly encouraging for Jim Boeheim's club.

Route one: Syracuse lost its three leading scorers from a team that advanced all the way to the Final Four a season ago.

Route two: Syracuse lost its three leading scorers from a team that many believe didn't deserve to make the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

Both of those statements, the second one especially, likely have you wondering why the Orange check in at No. 12 on our preseason countdown.

For starters, Tyler Lydon chose not to parlay his breakout March into an early exit to the NBA. The 6'9 forward who averaged 12.2 ppg after Valentine's Day last season has reportedly added 20 pounds of muscle to make the "inside" portion of his already lethal inside-out game that much tougher for ACC opponents to deal with.

Second, Boeheim has brought in a top 15 recruiting class headlined by a trio of four-star prospects. Leading the charge is combo guard Tyus Battle, a player who, even if he doesn't wind up starting at either guard position, figures to be able to shoulder a sizable chunk of the scoring load lost with the departures of Michael Gbinije, Malachi Richardson and Trevor Cooney.

Finally, no team was a bigger winner in the annual offseason grad transfer lottery than Syracuse. Nebraska transfer Andrew White was one of the best players in the Big Ten last season, and is the elite scorer that the Orange desperately needed to find heading into the season. John Gillon averaged 13.2 points and 3.8 assists last season for Colorado State, and will compete with Battle and sophomore Frank Howard to be the team's new starting point guard.

COWGILL: U of L Basketball Puts NCAA Investigation Behind It On Media Day (wlky.com; Cowgill)

It's been a while. Roughly 7 months since we've seen it. The last time U of L Basketball made an official event was its regular season ender, when its season ended prematurely with a self-imposed postseason ban for admitted rules breaking. Fast forward to today, picture day, officially Media Day. Head Coach Rick Pitino is doing everything possible to put the negative issues in the rear view mirror in spite of the on-going investigation which is starting year 2. "Once the notice of allegations come out, then the school will comment on all that, we haven't even gotten to that point yet. It's probably going to go to June or July, before we resolve this and that's probably a lot quicker than North Carolina or Syracuse. As far as our basketball team, we have full closure with this."

That remains to be seen. For this is a young, inexperienced team trying to replace three starters. Pitino even admits he's not sure where the points will come from. And when the bad news breaks here and there as the investigation winds to a close it will be a challenge to keep these guys in a bubble. That's one of many issues for a club Pitino says has such a great attitude, it was medicine for him in healing from the carnage of last season. The collateral damage from a damning book that stole the spotlight from a really good team that finished with a 12-6 record in arguably the toughest league in the land. And stole whatever postseason fate awaited it.

Louisville returns starters Quentin Snider and Jaylen Johnson from that team. Plus key contributers Donovan Mitchell, Deng Adel, Ray Spalding, among others. Plus adds key recruits like visually impressive freshman forward V.J. King. One of the many issues hanging in the balance, the progress of senior big man and part-time starter Mangok (Mango) Mathiang, who says he's 75 percent and a week away from a return after a recovery from left foot surgery that required a rod insertion to correct a break.

2016-17 Season Preview: La Salle Primer (cityofbasketballlove.com; Verlin)

2016-17 La Salle Explorers Primer
Coach: John Giannini, 13th season (184-192, .489)
Last Year: 9-22 overall, 4-14 Atlantic 10; lost in Atlantic 10 quarterfinals (Davidson, 78-63)

The 2015-16 season was one to forget for Giannini, who hedged his bets that he could develop a young team while a talented group waited for the year to follow. But a rotation that began with just nine scholarship players -- including two freshmen and a sophomore who’d never played a Division I minute -- was shortened to as few as six thanks to some early-season injuries, and by January it was clear that the Explorers couldn’t wait for the year to end.

New Faces: F/C Demetrius Henry (RS-Jr./South Carolina, Faith Baptist Christian, Fla.), G/F B.J. Johnson (RS-Jr./Syracuse/Lower Merion, Pa.), SG Saul Phiri (Fr./Putnam Science, Conn.), PG RaShawn “Pookie” Powell (RS-Soph./Memphis/Dr. Phillips, Fla.), Cian Sullivan (Fr./St. Andrew’s Prep, R.I.)

This group represents an enormous injection of talent, size, athleticism and high-major experience into the La Salle rotation, as well as a promising pair of freshmen that should play big roles in this program’s future, just perhaps not the immediate one. All three transfers, the latest in a line of former high-major players who’ve come to 20th and Olney for the second act of their college careers, will look to follow in the footsteps of Earl Pettis (Rutgers), Ramon Galloway (South Carolina), Ty Garland (Virginia) and others who’ve made it a successful move.

Each one of the trio should play a huge role (and could start) right away. Henry, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound post, averaged 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in under 20 minutes per game as a sophomore, and comes to La Salle with 48 career starts; he’s got a wiry-but-strong frame, with long arms that should make him a terrific shot-blocker and rebounder in the A-10, and an above-the-rim finisher for a strong cadre of guards.

Out on the perimeter, Powell becomes the third point guard on the roster, but he’s got a chance to jump right into the starting lineup in what is almost certainly going to be a four-out offense. At 6-1, 170 pounds, the Orlando native is a strong on-ball guard on both ends of the floor, and averaged nearly three assists per game as a freshman despite playing only 15 minutes. Johnson (6-7, 185) had a sharpshooter’s reputation in high school but never had the consistent minutes at Syracuse to show that off; no matter what, he provides Giannini with another scoring option who can guard multiple positions.
