HOTDOGDAY_1531861626694_92623299_ver1.0_640_480.jpg

Welcome to National Hot Dog Day!

National Hot Dog Day was started by the North American Meat Institutein 1991 and began being promoted and organized by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council after they were created by the institute in 1994. The day coincides with the Annual Hot Dog Lunch at Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., which is also sponsored by the North American Meat Institute. The lunch, which has taken place for decades, is a large hot dog picnic attended by lawmakers, administration officials, and Capitol Hill staff. The goal of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council is for similar smaller events to be held around the country. Many national and local retailers have sponsored deals on the day. This holiday also takes place during National Hot Dog Month, which started in the 1950s.

Syracuse Basketball: Is the Orange being over-hyped for 2018-19? (bustingbrackets.com; Burgess)

Syracuse Basketball went to the Sweet Sixteen last year and a lot is expected for the 2018-19 season. However, is the Orange being overhyped?

Usually when a team wins 23 games, goes to the Sweet Sixteen, has every meaningful rotation returning, and a top 50 recruiting class, the expectations and projections of that team for the upcoming year are even higher. That may not be the case for the Syracuse Orange in 2018-19.

Last season the Orange won 23 games and did make the Sweet Sixteen, but even that run may not be all it seems, as they finished 10th in the ACC at 8-10 and were handled easily in the 2nd round of the ACC tournament by North Carolina. Despite the conference record and early exit, head coach Jim Boeheim’s team and their vaunted 2-3 zone earned a bid to the tournament as one of the last four at-large teams. The Orange then proceeded to defeat Arizona State, TCU, and Michigan State by a total of 11 points, before falling to Duke in the Sweet Sixteen 69-65.

The Orange do return their top five scorers who played in all 37 games last season. Tyus Battle returns after testing the NBA waters, he along with Frank Howard and Oshae Brissett was the only players to average double figures,49.5 combined, for a team that averaged just 67 per game, having those three back in the fold was a big deal. Boeheim landed the 41st best recruiting class in the country that includes his son Buddy, a 6-5 shooting guard, Robert Braswell, a 6-9 power forward and Jalen Carey, a 6-3 combo guard, who is a top 60 recruit nationally.

Syracuse Through Time: Hot Sports Topics During Last Year’s MLB All-Star Game – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Edelstein)

Things can change a lot in a year.

With the MLB All-Star game this week, here’s a look back one year ago at what we were talking about in the Syracuse sports world around last year’s MLB All-Star game:

Syracuse Basketball Offered Tyus Battle’s Younger Brother

Tyus Battle has been making Syracuse headlines for years now. He was recruited, came to play, returned the next year, then led the team, left for the NBA Draft and now has come back again for 2018-2019.

But in July 2017—the day before the MLB All-Star Game—Khalif Battle was the name to know (with Tyus’ name attached, of course). Khalif Battle, now a high school senior as part of the Class of 2019, received an offer from SU basketball.

this may be the dumbest take ever.

They dont even mention Hughes - nor do they mention that Oshae and Marek have potential to the sky and back that Marek hasnt even seen 1% of yet.

Cuse is a top 10 team. lock it up. Probably the most obvious underrated team I have ever seen. Not a surprising team... i mean looking at the talent and what they shouold produce vs where they are ranked. If it gels, its a clear national title contender.

It all rides on the shoulders of Marek and Hughes. One of them has to become a scoring option.

I believe you are right, but possibly they both do because there may not be too many times when they are on the floor together.

And both of them will.

At worst we will be play 4 on 5 on offense next year. In some cases we'll be playing 5 on 5 instead of the 2.5 or 3 on 5 we were playing last year at times. That alone will account for an average of 5-10 more points per game next season. Our offense will not be anemic. Our defense will still be good.

Let me put this another way here... as politically correct as i can be - this is damn fine basketball team we got here.
