Welcome to Pay It Forward Day!

Pay It Forward Day is a global initiative that exists to make a difference by creating a huge ripple of kindness felt across the world. Of course, our hope is that people pay kindness forward every day and make each day that little bit brighter. We believe that small acts, when multiplied by millions of people can literally change the world for the better — and on April 28th we’ll set out to prove it! For this year’s international Pay it Forward Day (PIFD) we are aiming to inspire over 10 million acts of kindness around the world. Imagine the difference that would make! Join us in paying it forward, and help spread the word about this important day!

Will Dior Johnson, Zion Cruz follow former SU stars' path at Oak Hill? (PS; Waters)

In a few years, Smith might have to find room for two more Syracuse jerseys after Dior Johnson and Zion Cruz, a pair of highly rated recruits in the 2022 class, have recently announced plans to transfer to Oak Hill for the 2020-21 school year.

Johnson, a 6-3 guard from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, Calif., has already committed to Syracuse. Cruz, a 6-3 guard from Jersey City, N.J., who previously attended Hudson Catholic, is one SU’s list of recruiting targets. He has already received a scholarship offer from the SU coaches.

"I think it’s a good situation for both of them,'' Smith said in a telephone interview. "From what I’ve seen of them, they’re really high level, like McDonald’s All-American level, players.''

What could be Syracuse’s backcourt of the future will be Oak Hill’s backcourt for the next two years.
"Dior can play either the one or the two and Zion’s more of a two-guard,'' Smith said. "They can both score. I think they’ll play well together. That’s my job to make sure they do.''

Johnson is currently ranked No. 13 in ESPN.com’s Top 25 players in the ’22 class. Cruz is a few spots behind him at No. 18.

The time Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim was mistaken for Bernie Sanders (cnycentral.com)

Syracuse Men's Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim says he's been mistaken for former presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders in the past.

During Saturday night's live broadcast of the 2020 Basket Ball, Boeheim and his wife Juli shared stories with the audience as they raised money for COVID-19 relief in Central New York. As part of the event, the Boeheim's three children read mean tweets written about the Hall of Fame coach. One of those tweets compared the appearances of Jim Boeheim and Sen. Sanders.

Syracuse Basketball Recruiting Roundup: Orange Eyeing More West Coast Prospects – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Leonard)

Despite the quarantine, Syracuse basketball has been busy making offers lately to members of the 2020, ‘21 and the ultra-hyped 2022 class. Let’s get you caught up.

Frank Anselem C 2020

Anselem is a slender center from Georgia who has recently reclassified to 2020, meaning he would join Woody Newton, Kadary Richmond and Illinois transfer Alan Griffin as Orange newcomers next season. Anselem stands 6’11 with a 7’5 wingspan. 247sports.com rates him as the 85th best prospect in his class.

The talented center originally had a top 3 of the SEC’s Alabama, Georgia and LSU. Just hours after LSU grabbed a commitment from a different center, he announced his recruitment is now “wide open” again. Syracuse has since reached out. Anselem would bring some talent and offensive playmaking to the front court. Yet, considering SU already has three scholarship centers next season and Anselem has likely never visited the 315, don’t get your hopes up too much.

Frank Anselem, newly-minted member of the 2020 class, has heard from:

Oregon, Syracuse, Maryland, Wichita State, West Virginia, Stanford, San Diego State, Arkansas, Seton Hall, Miami, he told @Stockrisers.

Also says his old final-three of Bama, LSU and UGA remain in the mix.

More Than Basketball - Eric Devendorf - Ep. 23 (youtube; video; Bus Driver)

Today I am joined by college basketball legend Eric Devendorf. Eric played at Syracuse from 2005 to 2009. He averaged 15.7 points per game in his final season at Syracuse. He ranks 14th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,680 points. Despite having one more year of eligibility remaining, Devendorf decided to leave Syracuse and embark on a pro career. He spent the next seven years playing professionally in the NBA D-League and in foreign countries such as Ukraine, Israel, Greece, and New Zealand. In October 2016, he returned to Syracuse after being appointed to head coach Coach Boeheim's staff as an assistant strength coach.

ACC Recruiting: NC State Picks Up A Promising Big Man (DBR; King)

NC State got a promising young big man Sunday when Ernest Ross committed to the Pack.

Ross, a 6-9 forward out of Florida, is seen as a Top 40 prospect.

He also considered Buzz Willams and Texas A&M and L$U but ultimately went with State because he felt most comfortable with Kevin Keatts and his staff.

He’s the Pack’s second commitment for 2021, joining Terquavion Smith, a 6-3 guard from Farmville, NC, a city that’s probably experiencing an epidemic of stolen street signs right about now due to the popular video game of the same name.

Good thing there aren’t too many to steal: the population of Farmville is about 4,600.

MBB: Proposed 2020-21 Schedule Changes (RX; HM)

MBB: Proposed 2020-21 Schedule Changes

From CBS Sports' "NCAA proposing new scheduling rules for college basketball next season"

The NCAA's Division I Council passed new scheduling criteria on Friday that is "intended to improve" the environment of early-season, multiple-team events in men's basketball by restricting their total number of games to allow schools continued flexibility in non-conference scheduling.
If the legislation passes a review from the NCAA Board of Directors next week, it will go into effect for the 2020-21 season.
Under the new rules, teams would have the following scheduling options:
  • Playing up to 28 regular-season games and participating in one multiple-team event that includes up to three games.
  • Playing 29 regular-season games and a multiple-team event that includes up to two games.
  • Playing 29 regular-season games and not participating in a multiple-team event.
  • The legislation will require that multiple-team events are sponsored by the NCAA, a member conference or the NABC and limit schools to participating in the same event only once in any four-year period.

Louisville basketball: 3 matchups for 2020 ACC/Big Ten Challenge (BRL; Lane)

As Louisville basketball awaits their matchup in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge we take a look at three teams we’d like to see matched up against the Cards.

Despite not knowing what the upcoming basketball season may look like just yet, we are near the final stages of Chris Mack and the Louisville basketball finalizing their schedule for the 2020-21 season.

Over the last few weeks and months, we’ve seen a number of games and opponents being announced for Louisville, including a multi-game event in Las Vegas, a season-opener against Western Kentucky at the KFC Yum! Center, a matchup with Oklahoma State in the Armed Forces Classic, amongst a few other notable matchups.

At this point, there are just a few missing pieces for the 2020-21 schedule, most notably, the opponent for the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

We probably won’t know matchups until June/July, which is traditionally when they are announced, which is why wanted to take a closer look at who could be on the docket for Louisville.
