There are so many holidays throughout the year that people celebrate by doing things that take effort. Running, swimming, taking down Christmas trees, and yelling "fudge" at cobras; it all gets to be too much! Can't there just be a day to be lazy and do nothing? Yep. Today is National Lazy Day. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
How to Observe National Lazy Day
There really is no need for us to give you ideas on how to spend the day, as you know for yourself how you best like to be lazy and suggesting that you do anything feels like telling you to do work. But, if you want a few ideas, here they are:- Take a lot of naps.
- Lay in a hammock, on the couch, or never leave your bed.
- Don't prepare any food today. Order a pizza or something else to be delivered to your house.
- Drink some ice-cold beverages.
- Shirk whatever responsibilities you have for your job, forgo any chores you should be completing, and do whatever you think is fun instead.
- Watch a bunch of television, or listen to a lot of music. Duran Duran would particularly be fitting today, as would Todd Rundgren's "Bang the Drum All Day."
Freeman is prototypical forward Autry wants to bring to SU (video) (PS; $; Waters)
Inside Donnie Freeman’s house is a table reserved for family milestones and major events. It’s known as the Decision Table.
It’s where Freeman, then just an eighth-grader, made the decision to attend a high school catholic power in Washington D.C. It’s where his older sister, Dnia, made the decision to run track at East Carolina University.
The Freemans gathered around the table again in early May, when Donnie was ready to choose his college basketball destination.
“I want to go to Syracuse,” Freeman said.
“You sure?’’ his father asked.
“I’m sure,” Freeman said.
The 6-foot-8 forward, a consensus Top 50 player in the 2024 class, became the first high school recruit to commit to Syracuse after Adrian Autry took over as coach.
As other schools put the full-court press on Freeman, Autry made a strong pitch to Freeman: We need you.
Autry had been on him for a long time. Though Freeman won’t suit up for the Orange for another year, his commitment represents a promising start for Autry.
Syracuse beat out power programs for a player who said name, image and likeness opportunities played “a big role” in his recruitment.
On the court, fans will see the prototypical Syracuse forward.
Freeman attacks the rim ferociously, but he’s also able to step outside with a feathery jump shot. Defensively, he can guard multiple positions, an essential element in Autry’s plans to utilize more man-to-man defense.
“Syracuse,” Freeman’s AAU coach said, “is getting a hell of a kid.”

Syracuse Basketball: Rising 4-star PG to join Kiyan Anthony at prep power (itlh; Adler)
Fast-rising Nigel James, a 2025 four-star point guard who hails from New York state and has said he would like to hear from Syracuse basketball, is heading home to suit up for one of the country’s top high-school programs.
The 6-foot James, who had a breakout spring and summer on the AAU circuit, recently said via Twitter that he will transfer from the Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass., to the powerhouse Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., where he will become part of an absolutely loaded backcourt.
The Crusaders, which competed in this spring’s annual GEICO Nationals and are expected to be a preseason top-five nationally ranked squad in the 2023-24 campaign, are a member of the loaded 10-team National Interscholastic Basketball Conference (“NIBC”).
Also on Long Island Lutheran’s 2023-24 roster are Orange priority recruit Kiyan Anthony, a 2025 four-star shooting guard, 2025 four-star wing Jacob Ross, who has reportedly received interest from the ‘Cuse, and 2024 five-star shooting guard/small forward V.J. Edgecombe, who this week skyrocketed up to No. 3 across the country in his class, per On3.

Pittsburgh Basketball: Carlton Carrington a surprise early exhibition standout (bustingbrackets.com; Freeman)
Pittsburgh Basketball wins its first game of the foreign tour, thanks to some nice performances. One of them includes newcomer, Carlton Carrington.
One of many teams taking on foreign exhibition trips, Pittsburgh Basketball is currently in Spain to take on a pair of international opponents with its new roster. Two players (Jorge Diaz-Graham and Federiko Federiko) are out but everyone else was available to take on the Tenerife All-Stars on Wednesday.
In what was a one-possession game at halftime, the Panthers had a big second-half run to have the lead and hold onto the 86-80 victory. It wasn’t a game that was televised so a press release of stats is the only thing to go off of. But there were some telling points to look at.
As expected, returning leading scorer Blake Hinson is the go-to guy, leading the team with 24 points. The two incoming transfers (Zach Austin and Ishmael Leggett) combined for 41 points, while Guillermo Diaz Graham was also in double figures (13 points) in place of Federiko at the five-spot. What was most interesting was who reportedly started at point guard in the game.
With both Jamarius Burton and Nelly Cummings gone, it was wide open as to who would fill that void. The two likely contenders were redshirt freshman Dior Johnson and four-star freshman ball-handler, Jaland Lowe. Instead, it was another freshman, Carlton Carrington. He’s a 6’4 guard that’s capable of handling the ball but was projected to play more off-ball behind Leggett at the two-spot.
Turns out, he may be the best pure playmaker on the roster. While the game wasn’t televised, Carrington not only started but reportedly led the team with nine assists, along with being second on the team with seven rebounds. Both are huge stats because not only is he showing he can pass the ball well but rebounding was a concern with the roster since the frontcourt players are fairly slim compared to other frontcourts and needs the perimeter players to chip in on the boards.

SU Legend John Wallace on Jim Boeheim (orangefizz.net; Gotkin)
In an interview with on leader Damon Amendora’s New York Accent Podcast, Syracuse All-American John Wallace had some great things to say about Jim Boeheim.
“Coach Boeheim is the ultimate player’s coach almost to a fault. He would do anything for his players, and we feel that, and it’s not just while you’re there. When you leave and come back, it’s always love. “
Boeheim has always been known to be a great person who players love, even though he has had his fair share of issues with the media and referees. Whether it be buying people’s dinners or making sure to shake everyone’s hand after an appearance, Boeheim always makes sure to do the right thing.
Boeheim the coach and person has been mixed together for a long time. Since the 90s its been talked about how Boeheim was misunderstood. Within all of the chaos of his retirement, there was an article from the Syracuse.com archives that came out with that topic. It detailed how Boeheim would always be in the University Hospital playing on the floor with children diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders.
After Boeheim retired, legendary coach Bob Huggins said, “He’s an absolutely great guy. He’s a fun guy to be around. I think a lot of times people misunderstand what a really good guy he his and his humor.” Since retirement Boeheim has been in the public maybe more than ever. NYS Fair Food Hall of Fame: Coming in at #9... the ‘hottest and freshest’ chicken (PS; Cazentre)
Sure, anyone living in or around Central New York can grab some Tully’s Tenders any time of year they want.
But there seems to be something special about getting these delectable, deep-fried and battered chunks of chicken at the New York State Fair.
Tully’s Tenders came in at No. 9 on the syracuse.com New York State Fair Food Hall of Fame.
“It amazes me how many people HAVE to go to the Tully’s booth to get their chicken tenders,” said Amy Robbins, a long-time radio host who also joins with co-host Ted Long to provide the voice-over announcements on the fairgrounds. “Even though it’s an item that you can literally get every day of the year.”
The tenders made their overall debut in 1991 at the first Tully’s Good Times restaurant in Batavia. (There are now 14 Tully’s locations across Upstate New York and Pennsylvania).
Since then, roughly 200 million tenders have been served, said Dan Giamartino, whose family runs the Tully’s operations (and CopperTop and Good Buddy’s, too).
Tully’s Tenders made their debut at the State Fair around 2002. They come in the classic version (best served with Tully’s Honey Mustard), along with Buffalo or Asian flavors.
And there may be a good reason to get them at the fair, Giamartino said. It takes less time to get from the fryer to the customer at the fair than in the restaurants.
“At the fair is probably the hottest and freshest they’ll ever be,” he said. “You’re literally getting them as soon as they’re out of the fryer.”

Someone stole a car from outlet mall. But Glenn the dog was in the car (PS; Kirk)
A dog was rescued from a car reported stolen from the Waterloo Premium Outlets on Sunday, troopers said.
Troopers spotted the car that had been reported stolen at 8:10 p.m. at the outlet in the town of Junius, troopers said. The dog, named Glenn, was in the car when two men stole the vehicle, troopers said.
Troopers pulled the car over in Cayuga County and arrested Charles A. Donato, 45, of Fleming, and Jay L. Garrigan Jr., 41, of Auburn, troopers said.
Both men were charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, troopers said.
Glenn was uninjured and returned to his owners, troopers said.

The new-look cowboys from Hell demanded their “Re! Spect!” for members past and present on Tuesday in a furious 85-minute set at the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater, and a crowd of all ages came out to give the veteran shredders their due.
Openers Lamb of God set the stage for Pantera, who took the stage at 9:15. Growling vocalist Phil Anselmo led the sonic assault with the same tenacity that first established Pantera in the late-1980′s, opening the set with “A New Level” from the album Vulgar Display of Power. As the album title suggests, these thrashing rockers describe violence and militant anger in much of their music, but the crowd was all smiles as the band ripped into “Mouth for War,” chanting the raging lyrics describing revenge.
The audience screamed their approval after the song ended, to which Anselmo replied, “All that goes out to Vinnie Paul and Dimebag,” the now-deceased larger-than-life brothers and founders of the band.
After the tragic onstage death of lead guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott in 2004, any touring lineup of Pantera had some monstrously large shoes to fill. Zakk Wylde, (the founder of Black Label Society who got his start as Ozzy Osbourne’s lead guitarist from 1987-1995), was up to this tall task, playing all of Dimebag’s signature riffs and masterful solos with unrivaled precision.
