Welcome to National Baked Scallops Day!

It's National Baked Scallops Day! This one is for you liljoe!

Scallops can be purchased fresh or frozen, and there are several ways they may be prepared when baked. They may be paired or served with some other foods, such as rice, vegetables, baked potatoes, linguine, parsley, spinach, and salad leaves. Scallops, with over 400 species, are found in all the world's oceans. They are low in saturated fat, sodium, and calories, but high in protein. They also have healthy omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, and minerals like zinc, selenium, phosphorus, iron, copper, and manganese. They are also one of the cleanest shellfish.

David Teel of the Richmond Times-Dispatch examines the ACC Tournament and makes predictions with Mike Waters of Syracuse.com

The Juice Online - Orange Watch: Syracuse basketball due for strong ACC Tournament (r1vals; Bierman)

In a similar streak to his first ten seasons coaching Syracuse basketball when his teams failed to win two consecutive games in any of the eight NCAA appearances before the breakthrough 1987 championship game run, no Jim Boeheim-coached teams ever won more than two consecutive games in any of the nine ACC Tournaments the Orange have contested since 2014.
Heck, it wasn't until its fourth tournament appearance in 2018 that the 'Cuse finally won a tourney game, and SU has only appeared as far as the quarterfinals four times.

Here's a look at the inauspicious results:

2014-Greensboro, N.C. Lost to North Carolina State 66-63 as No. 2 seed in the quarterfinals.
2015-Greensboro, N.C. The university announced a self-imposed postseason ban in response to a pending case before the NCAA Committee on Infractions, related to investigations that originally began in 2007.
2016-Washington, D.C. Lost to Pittsburgh 72-71 as the No. 9 seed in the second round.
2017-Brooklyn, N.Y. Lost to Miami 62-57 as the No. 8 seed in the second round.
2018-Brooklyn, N.Y. Defeated Wake Forest 73-64 as the No. 11 seed in the first round. Lost to North Carolina 78-59 in the second round.
2019-Charlotte, N.C. Defeated Pittsburgh 73-59 as the No. 6 seed in the second round. Lost to Duke 84-72 in the quarterfinals.
2020-Greensboro, N.C. Defeated North Carolina 81-53 as the No. 6 seed in the second round. The quarterfinal round game against Louisville was canceled, along with the rest of the college basketball season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2021-Greensboro, N.C. Defeated North Carolina State 89-68 as the No. 8 seed in the second round. Lost to Virginia 72-69 in the quarterfinals.
2022-Brooklyn, N.Y. Defeated Florida State 96-57 as the No. 9 seed in the second round. Lost to Duke 88-79 in the quarterfinals.
2023-Greensboro, N.C. Lost to Wake Forest 77-74 as the No. 8 seed in the second round, Boeheim's final game as Syracuse head coach.

Syracuse men’s basketball: ACC Tournament odds (TNIAAM; Ostrowski)

The Syracuse Orange are locked in as the seventh seed in the ACC Tournament, meaning they'll have to win four in a row in D.C. to grab the conference's auto-NCAA bid.

According to DraftKings , the Orange have +6500 odds to do so, the eighth-best chances out of the 15 participants. UNC and Duke are neck-and-neck with the leading +150 and +160 odds, respectively.

Clemson, Wake Forest, Pitt, Virginia, and Virginia Tech also come in ahead of 'Cuse.

The Orange play the winner of the 10/15 game between NC State and Louisville Wednesday at 7:00. If they advance, they'll face Duke on Thursday evening

SU last won a conference tournament in 2006 as a member of the Big East. They're 5-8 to date in ACC Tournament games.

One advantage Syracuse has is the extra rest they received from not having a game on Saturday - by the time they take the court at Capital One Arena, they'll have had a full week off. SU's seven-man rotation should come out the freshest they've been in quite some time.

What History Says About Syracuse’s ACC Tournament (orangefizz.net; Aitken)

The hopes for Syracuse to win the ACC Tournament hopes feel pretty slim right now. As the 7-seed, SU will have a favorable matchup against NC State or Louisville to start. But then, the possible opponents shift to a more intimidating group, including Duke, Virginia, Clemson, and North Carolina. However, there’s more to consider than just this bracket in a volume. Let’s evaluate how 7-seeds have done in the past at the ACC Tournament.

The historic span we’ll be looking at is the years since Syracuse joined the conference in 2013-14. That gives us 10 ACC Tournaments with Syracuse in them to evaluate, albeit with the 2020 bracket ending early due to the pandemic.

The first takeaway: the 7-seed has a very high ceiling. This shouldn’t be shocking. In fact, most of you probably remember the run Virginia Tech went on in 2022. The 7-seeded Hokies marched through the bracket, beating 10-seeded Clemson, 2-seeded Notre Dame, 3-seeded North Carolina, and even top-seeded Duke on the way to a conference title. VT showed that the path the 7-seed has in the ACC Tournament is manageable.

Despite that possibility of success, 7-seeds are pretty inconsistent as a whole. In 30% of brackets in this sample, the 7-seed lost in their first game. Even when the first matchup is won, 7-seeds usually don’t accomplish more than that. 80% of the time, they don’t get more than one victory in the ACC Tournament.

Syracuse Basketball: How 5-star commit, 4-star targets fared in country’s toughest league (itlh; Adler)
A Syracuse basketball commit and several Orange recruiting targets have finished up their 2023-24 regular season in arguably the nation’s top high school hoops conference.

Over the weekend, the 12-game regular season of the 14-member Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic (“EYBL Scholastic”) wrapped up.

This conference features some of the top high school programs around the country, including various independent basketball academies as well as prep schools.

From a Syracuse basketball recruiting perspective, the three EYBL Scholastic teams to monitor are the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., and the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind.

Orange 2024 signee Donnie Freeman is a standout for IMG. Long Island Lutheran’s stacked backcourt includes ‘Cuse 2025 recruits Nigel James and Kiyan Anthony. One of the stars for La Lumiere is Orange 2025 target Jerry Easter II.

Let’s see how Syracuse basketball recruits did in the top league.

From a team perspective, in the EYBL Scholastic regular season, Long Island Lutheran finished at 10-2. Both IMG and La Lumiere were 7-5.

Long Island Lutheran was No. 2 in the EYBL Scholastic standings behind the 12-0 Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla. IMG and La Lumiere finished in a tie for the No. 5 spot.

Wolfpack look to start ACC Tournament on the right foot (highschoollot.com)
On Tuesday, the N.C. State Wolfpack will take on the Louisville Cardinals in the opening round of the ACC Tournament in Washington, D.C.

The Wolfpack skidded into the tournament, losing its final four games of the regular season, including losses to the Duke Blue Devils, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels and the Pitt Panthers.

The Cardinals, however, are hoping to play spoilsport in the tournament. The Cardinals finished dead last in the conference, with a 3-17 conference record and an 8-23 record overall.

While the season did not go as planned for the Wolfpack head coach, Kevin Keatts, he will look to continue his success against the Cardinals. The Wolfpack defeated the Cardinals in January, 89-83, giving Keatts a winning record against the Cardinals.

Graduate transfer and Wolfpack guard DJ Horne led the way for the Wolfpack against Louisville in January with 27 points. Horne is climbing the ranks in his ability to shoot from deep. Horne needs eight three-pointers to pass Scott Wood for fourth place for most three-pointers made in one season.

(No, he is injured).

One of the best places for cherry blossoms in US is in Upstate NY, ranking finds (PS; House)
You don’t have to drive to Washington D.C. to see stunning spring cherry blossoms.

Buffalo has been named one of the best places in the United States to see glorious cherry blossoms by Country Living. The big Western New York city made the list of 30 destinations alongside Macon, Georgia; Central Park in Manhattan; and, of course, the nation’s capital.

Most of the City of Good Neighbor’s beloved cherry blossoms can be found in Buffalo’s Delaware Park. The park is home to the city’s Japanese Garden — an outdoor haven created as part of a sister-city initiative with Kanazawa, Japan that features 40 cherry blossom trees, according to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy.

“While the cherry blossom displays in New York City are impressive, don’t discount the rest of the state,” Country Living wrote in its flowery roundup. “Buffalo’s Delaware Park — which was designed by the masterminds behind Central Park— is a prime blossom-viewing destination, especially around Hoyt Lake, once the trees bloom in late April.”
