Fish Fingers and Custard Day commemorates the introduction of the Eleventh Doctor on the television series Doctor Who, as well as the memorable fish fingers and custard scene from the episode in which he arrives. The episode, which was released on April 3, 2010, is the first from Series 5 of the show, and is titled "The Eleventh Hour." BBC declared the first Fish Fingers and Custard Day to take place on the second anniversary of the release of the episode. The following year, Birdseye even put the Doctor, who was played by Matt Smith, on their boxes. The day is marked by people eating fish fingers and custard and sharing photos and videos of them doing so.

The best way to mark the day is to eat fish fingers and custard. You could film or photograph yourself while doing so and then post them online as a response to the Doctor Who scene. Syracuse basketball gets commitment from Colorado transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr. (PS; $; Waters)
Syracuse landed its first commitment out of the NCAA’s transfer portal and it’s a big one.
Eddie Lampkin Jr., a 6-foot-11, 265-pound center, announced on Tuesday that he will transfer to Syracuse after spending last season at the University of Colorado.
Lampkin will be a fifth-year senior next year as he takes advantage of the extra year of eligibility which the NCAA granted to all student-athletes who competed during the Covid-impacted 2020-21 season.
Lampkin, a native of Houston, Texas, spent his first three years at Texas Christian University. He became a full-time starter as a sophomore and then averaged 6.3 points and 5.9 rebounds as a junior.
He then transferred to Colorado where he helped the Buffalos to a third-place finish in the Pac-12 Conference and an NCAA tournament bid. Lampkin averaged 10.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while making 57.9% of his shots.
The addition of Lampkin bolsters Syracuse’s center position where the Orange has lost Maliq Brown and Peter Carey to the transfer portal and Mounir Hima to graduation.
Lampkin will provide a true low-post scoring threat, which is something Syracuse lacked last season. While Brown did score 9.5 points per game, he didn’t score with his back to the basket. Brown got most of his points in transition, via lob passes or off offensive rebounds.

Colorado transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr. has committed to Syracuse, he announced Tuesday evening in an Instagram post. Lampkin was in Syracuse earlier in the day on an official visit.
Lampkin Jr.’s commitment to SU marks the program’s first get in the transfer portal since it opened on March. 18. According to 247Sports he is ranked as the 16th-best available center in the portal. Before Colorado, Lampkin Jr. spent three years at TCU.
During the 2023-24 season, the 6-foot-11, 265-pound center started 35 of 36 games. He averaged 10.6 points and seven rebounds, serving as an invaluable frontcourt presence for Colorado across its run to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32. Through two tournament games, Lampkin notched 13 points in the Buffaloes’ First Four matchup against Boise State before recording 21 to fuel an upset victory over No. 7-seeded Florida.
Prior to NCAA Tournament play, Lampkin Jr. also helped lead Colorado to a surprise Pacific-12 Conference title appearance where it finished as runners-up to Oregon.
Beginning his collegiate career with the Horned Frogs, Lampkin Jr. averaged 5.7 points and 5.3 rebounds from 2020-2023. Under head coach Jamie Dixon, TCU earned a single berth to the NCAA Tournament during Lampkin Jr.’s time there, ultimately falling to Arizona in the second round.
In high school, 247Sports ranked Lampkin Jr. as a 4-star recruit and the 58th-best center in the country. The Texas native held 10 offers and took two official visits to TCU and Texas A&M before committing to the former.

For most of his life, Gerry McNamara was described in terms of his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
A blue-collar kid. The son of a Marine. The youngest of Gerard and Joyce McNamara’s four children.
But on Tuesday, as Gerry McNamara was introduced as the head basketball coach at Siena College with a ceremony held in the lobby of the MVP Arena in downtown Albany, Gerard McNamara made an interesting observation.
“Gerry has spent as many years now in Syracuse as he did in Scranton,’’ he said.
Gerry McNamara arrived in Syracuse in the fall of 2002. He was 18 years old and a freshman at Syracuse University. He would become one of the most beloved players in school history.
As a freshman, he along with fellow freshman Carmelo Anthony led Syracuse to the 2003 NCAA championship. McNamara scored more than 2,000 points. He set 3-point shooting records. He started each of his 135 games in his Syracuse career.
“I came to Syracuse as a young man, as a player, but I’m leaving as a father of four,’’ McNamara said Tuesday. “Regardless of what I did as a player, that’s the most important thing that I’ve done in my life in that city. They helped raise my family.’’
Syracuse embraced Gerry McNamara and never let him go. When he played his final game at the Carrier Dome, a children’s chorus serenaded him with a rendition “McNamara’s Band.’’
Oh, he left for a short time after his playing career ended in 2006. He spent a few years playing professional ball overseas.

Recruiting service and media outlet On3 has updated its 2025 national rankings, and we're checking in here on where Syracuse basketball four-star targets are placed in this ratings refresh.
While the Orange coaching staff has offered scholarships to nearly 20 high school juniors, according to recruiting services, the 'Cuse appears to be focused these days on seven to nine players in this cycle.
All of the recruits noted here are rated four stars and hold scholarship offers from the Syracuse basketball coaching staff.
Additionally, the majority of these 2025 targets have taken either official or unofficial visits to the Hill in recent months. The 'Cuse staff, while still on the lookout for its first verbal pledge within the high school junior class, is in a strong position with several of these 2025 prospects, according to On3's recruiting prediction machine.

That was around the time seven years ago that FBI agents pounded on his door, barged in, handcuffed him and dragged him away while his 16-year-old son, E.J., looked on helplessly.
“Ever since then, everyone looks at me differently,” the former University of Arizona assistant coach told The Associated Press about his arrest, part of a sting designed to clean up college basketball. “And I don’t fall back to sleep when I see that time come up on the clock.”
He is one of four assistant coaches — along with a group of six agents, their financial backers and shoe company representatives — who were arrested in the 2017 federal probe aimed at rooting out an entrenched system of off-the-books payments to players and their families that, at the time, was against NCAA rules.
All four assistants — Richardson, Lamont Evans, Chuck Person and former Syracuse basketball player Tony Bland — are Black. Of the 10 men arrested, only one was white.
“Low-hanging fruit,” the 51-year-old Richardson said when asked why Black men took the brunt of the punishment. “Who do you see all the time that’s out there? Black assistants. Who is forging the relationships? Black assistants.”
Several coaches and other insiders told the AP it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Black men ended up as the fall guys, given the racial lines along which careers often play out in the sport.

Flood watches issued for Upstate NY for storm that could drop 3 inches of rain (PS; Coin)
Flood watches have been issued for nearly all of Upstate New York as a storm system moves in that could drop 1 to 3 inches of rain over the next few days.
An inch of rain could fall tonight, followed by an inch or two Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
“The resulting runoff into area watersheds is expected to cause significant rises on area rivers with a potential for flooding beginning by Thursday morning,” the weather service said in a flood watch for much of Central New York and the Southern Tier.
Winds will pick up Wednesday, too, with gusts approaching 50 mph.
Temperatures will also start falling Wednesday, so rain will change over to snow, especially at higher elevations. More than 7 inches of wet snow is possible on Tug Hill and in the Adirondacks later this week.
Winter storm watches are in effect in those areas from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday evening.
“Travel could be very difficult with slushy, snow-covered roads and poor visibility,” the weather service said.

Violent Femmes to play first 2 albums in entirety at Central NY concert (PS; $; Herbert)
Violent Femmes are celebrating four decades of music with a Central New York concert this summer.
The alternative rock/folk-punk group will perform their first two albums from cover to cover on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards in Lafayette. No opening act has been named for the show, which begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Friday, April 5, at 10 a.m. through tixr.com; prices have not been announced. Pre-sale tickets will be available to Beak & Skiff newsletter subscribers starting Thursday at 10 a.m.
According to a press release, Violent Femmes will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1984 sophomore album, “Hallowed Ground,” played in its entirety, followed by a brief intermission. The Gordon Gano-led band will then perform all of its 1983 self-titled debut album, featuring the hits “Blister in the Sun,” “Add It Up,” “Kiss Off,” “Gone Daddy Gone,” and “Good Feeling.”
As a result, fans will get to hear two very different sides of the Violent Femmes. Their 1983 debut is an alternative rock classic and been featured in movies and TV shows like “My So-Called Life,” “Reality Bites,” “Grosse Point Blank” and “How I Met Your Mother.” “Hallowed Ground,” on the other hand, draws from a wide range of influences, including country, gospel and blues on tracks like “Sweet Misery Blues” and the banjo-led “Country Death Song.”
