John Wallace (Rochester) and Michael Lloyd (Baltimore)

Baltimore vs Rochester (Poll; PS; Waters)

Breakdown

"You'd have to say on paper, Baltimore has the most talented team, but that's why they play the game.''

That's what Rochester native John Wallace had to say about his team's first round game in the Syracuse Hometown Team Tournament. And other than the fact that they're really not playing the game and it really is mostly on paper, Wallace has a point. His Rochester squad matches up well with the vaunted Baltimore team.

Rochester can match Baltimore's formidable forward trio of Carmelo Anthony, C.J. Fair and Donte Greene with its own lineup of Wallace, Ryan Blackwell and Marty Byrnes.

Wallace thought Rochester held a distinct advantage at center with 7-foot Roosevelt Bouie going up against Baltimore's 6-7 Herman Harried.

"Herman's got to deal with Roosevelt,'' Wallace said. "We'll slow up a little bit and just pound it into Roosevelt.''

Andy Rautins (Syracuse) vs Leo Rautins (International)

International vs Syracuse (Poll; PS; Waters)

Breakdown

Three-fifths of the International team hails from Canada, while three-fifths of the Syracuse team attended Jamesville-DeWitt High School.

However, International team captain Leo Rautins has filed a formal protest. He is objecting to his son's presence on the Syracuse squad. Andy Rautins is one of Syracuse's three Jamesville-DeWitt grads, but he has played on Canada's national team.

"They've got to take one of ours just to be competitive,'' Leo said. "That tells you right there. That's sad. You've got to take one of ours.''

ACC Hoops OOC Schedule Assessment: Miami Set Up for Strong Pre-League Run (PS; Stevens)

...
Two seasons ago, Miami swept the ACC's regular season and tournament titles. Armed with a team loaded with fifth- and sixth-year seniors, as well as future NBA first-rounder Shane Larkin, Hurricanes coach Jim Larrañaga constructed what became a top-10 nonconference schedule.

Last year, not so much. Of course, Miami's roster was gutted by graduation, and there wasn't a real need to play a harrowing schedule. With a pair of Big 12 transfers (Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez) eligible, the Hurricanes should improve. But will their nonconference schedule reflect that looming progress?

Ice Bucket Challenge Is The 'Answer to Our Prayers' Says ALS Association's Upstate NY Director (PS; Tulloch)

Look for Some Ice Bucket Activity at the Fine Lot Villanova Tailgate as well...

We're closing in on yet another week of ALS ice bucket challenges and the viral phenomenon shows no sign of slowing down nationwide -- a very good thing for the ALS Association.

Some notable Syracuse faces accepted the challenge this week, like former Syracuse University basketball star C.J. Fair (see video below), Syracuse Crunch's owner Howard Dolgon and CFO Vance Lederman. Even Jim Boeheim was challenged this week, and we're all waiting with baited breath to see that video.
