Latest Report in Incoming PG Kaleb Joseph (coxhub.com; New England Recruiting Report)

Watching him last week at the Scott Hazelton Basketball Camp, where he returned to play with his former Mass Rivals teammates, it was clear that even that small sample of college basketball has already made a big impact on his game.

The most notable difference is the development of Joseph’s jump-shot. While he was more consistent with his pull-up than three-pointer during his days at Cushing Academy, he was drilling threes with ease last week in Andover.

The progression isn’t really a total surprise. There was never anything mechanically wrong with his shot. In fact, his release has always been pretty clean, only typically short because of a lack of legs and confidence. Some increased lower body strength after a few weeks in a college weight room along with the added confidence that goes along with taking a few hundred jumpers a day seem to now be doing the trick though.

Woo Hoo! Carrier Dome Named #2 Basketball Venue in Country by Four Year Study (PS; Carlson)

No wonder Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim and assistant Mike Hopkins don't want to see the Carrier Dome to go anywhere anytime soon.

The Teflon-coated bubble was named the second-best college basketball venue in the country by the website StadiumJourney.com, which spent four years visiting 351 college basketball arenas.

The Carrier Dome finished behind only Kentucky's Rupp Arena and finished 29 spots ahead of Duke's Carmeron Indoor Arena. Syracuse led the country in basketball attendance last year, while the Wildcats placed second.

It is Over and DC Reigns Supreme (PS; Waters)

Ironic that the home of SU's biggest rival is also the capital of Syracuse basketball...

Washington, D.C., isn't just the capital of the United States. It's also the capital of Syracuse basketball.

Washington emerged as the champion of Syracuse Hometown Madness, soundly defeating Baltimore in the finals on Wednesday. Washington collected roughly 75 percent of the votes cast on Wednesday.

The lineup of former Syracuse players consisted of Sherman Douglas, Dave Bing, Lawrence Moten, Jerami Grant and Arinze Onuaku. The trio of Douglas, Moten and Bing gave Washington three of the top nine scorers in school history. All three finished their careers as the school's scoring leader. Moten remains SU's all-time leading scorer.

ACC

I'm Excited to See the ACC (ESPN; Brown)

...
But just having four contenders is not why the league should be so competitive this season. The strength comes in the teams that should be fighting in the middle tier:

Syracuse: I don't expect Kaleb Joseph to simply step in and do what Tyler Ennis did at point guard last season. But if he can at least stabilize the position, coach Jim Boeheim will have enough talent around him. Fellow freshman Chris McCullough could make an immediate impact at power forward, and Tyler Roberson is ready for an expanded role with C.J. Fair and Jerami Grant gone.

Pittsburgh: It's time the ACC got used to what the Big East knew: Coach Jamie Dixon always finds a way to have the Panthers in the mix. Cameron Wright and James Robinson form an experienced backcourt, and, if forward Durand Johnson comes back strong from his knee injury, Pitt will again prove to be a tough out.

NY Fair Midway Games: How to Win a Ginormous Prize or At Least Go Home Happy (PS; Herbert)

How can you win games at a carnival or fair? Believe it or not, it's easy -- though not everyone is going to get to take home a ridiculously over-sized stuffed animal.

Wade Shows is the new Midway operator at the 2014 New York State Fair, but most games and their strategies are the same as with James E. Strates Shows. They all require varying amounts of skill, chance and cash.

One new game this year is Bottle Up, where players use a fishing rod with a ring on its end to hook the top of a beer bottle and make it stand upright on a slanted board. It looks challenging, but the game operator showed how easy it is to win by pointing the fishing rod forward in a lunge position, rather than lifting up.

"It's high school," he said when asked how difficult it was to play.

I-81 FAQ: How Will I-81 Be Paid For? Will There be New Taxes or Tolls? (PS; Siu)

How will Interstate 81 be paid for? Will any of the plans increase taxes or create new tolls?

DOT spokesman Beau Duffy responds:

"There will be no tolls. NYSDOT will begin the process of identifying funding for the viaduct project as the Final Environmental Impact Statement is developed. It's likely that the funding will be a combination of federal, state and potentially even local funds, but it's too soon to say how that would break down.''

When the interstate highway system was built 50 years ago, the federal government picked up 90 percent of the cost.

Generally, the federal government pays for 80 percent of these projects, with state and local governments sharing the balance of costs.

It was a good article, but it doesn't think Kaleb is going to be much of a draw - predicting he'll play in front of 15,000 fans during "games broadcast live on ESPN."
