Tyler Lydon's a Shooter and a Whole Lot More (TNIAAM; Burke)

Syracuse's offensive deficiencies last season were at least in-part a result of its inability to stretch the floor. Rakeem Christmas rarely strayed away from the rim, and though Tyler Roberson did, the forward never developed a respectable jumper. The combination of the two shrank the floor and didn't give SU's shooters much room to operate. The Orange made just 30.7 percent of its 3s and wasn't particularly effective from any area outside the paint.

That should change this season whenever Tyler Lydon, who's likely to back up Roberson at power forward, sees the floor. At 6-foot-8, Lydon has as smooth a jumper as you will see from a player his size. That alone should warrant him seeing at least some playing time, but it would be incorrect to simply label Lydon as a spot-up shooter. He's a skilled enough player to create his own shot off the dribble, both from 3 and the mid-range.

On top of that, Lydon is much more than a shooter. He's able and willing to drive and cut to the basket. Once he's there, he finishes well at the rim -- though that could change against bigger and stronger players in college. Lydon is athletic, too; he's an impressive jumper and has the ability to play above the rim.

What We Know So Far About the Syracuse Basketball Schedule (thejuice; Auger)

While much has been made about the football team’s schedule – there has to be six wins in there somewhere, right? – the entire men’s basketball schedule has yet to be released. But, it is slowly starting to come together. Let’s take a peek at what awaits Boeheim’s other Army once Midnight Madness commences a mere seven weeks from now.

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are this year’s sacrificial lamb to open the season at the Carrier Dome on Friday, Nov. 13. The Hawks were 16-14 overall and 10-8 in the Patriot League last year. Four days later, Syracuse welcomes St. Bonaventure to the Dome in a tussle between upstate New York teams.

After a warm-up with Elon (Nov. 21), the real fun begins when Syracuse travels to the Bahamas (tough work if you can get it) to participate in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Nov. 25. Charlotte is up first for the Orange. Syracuse’s second round opponent qualifies as a Grudge Match competitor no matter who wins between Michigan and UConn. In the Wolverines, SU has a chance to avenge the Final Four loss in 2012. Or, the Orange will take on long-time and former Big East rival Connecticut. Its third and final game of the tournament will be from a pool consisting of Texas, Texas A&M, Washington or Gonzaga. No matter how the tournament unfolds, Syracuse has a chance to earn some quality OOC wins.

With the arrival of December comes a home game against Wisconsin in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Orange-colored cheese heads anyone?

Even if SU doesn’t tangle with UConn in the Battle for Atlantis, it’s guaranteed two other games against former Big East Brethren although both of them are on the road. On Dec. 5, the Orange renews pleasantries with old nemesis Georgetown. Admit it; you forgot how much fun Hoya hating can be! Eight days later on Dec. 13 SU takes Manhattan in a match-up with St. John’s. SU hosts Colgate on Dec. 8 in between those two contests.

Throwback Thursday: Kristof Ongenaet (TNIAAM; Szuba)

Kristof Ongenaet was born in Ghent, Belgium where he would excel in basketball. Ongenaet would grow into a solid player in his youth, earning him a spot on the Belgium Junior National Team. The tall forward would move to the states in 2006 and play junior college ball at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif. There, KO would eventually set the school's all-time record in rebounds, a skill that would carry over as a Syracuse Orange.

After playing two years at Cuesta College, Ongenaet would transfer to Syracuse despite having offers from Northwestern, Colorado and Kansas State. He played his first season in 2007 -- Syracuse would bring on six new players that season. Ongenaet brought a great deal of effort to the court which showed, especially on the boards. Ongenaet would continue to play better as the season went on and with a depleted Syracuse team, Ongenaet earned himself a starting position for the final 15 games. He would finish the season averaging 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in a disappointing season as Syracuse played in the NIT for back-to-back years.

Ongenaet would begin his senior season as a starter, but eventually Jim Boeheim favored a steady Rick Jackson, leaving KO to come off the bench. While his play wasn't up to par, Ongenaet wouldn't give up and came on strong down the stretch of the season. Ongenaet would provide a big performance in the six overtime game by pulling down nine important rebounds against a very tough rebounding Connecticut team. The Orange were out-rebounded by 13 in the six overtime game, so having KO on the glass was crucial. Syracuse and Ongeanaet would roll into the Big East Championship before falling to Louisville. Nonetheless, Syracuse would carry its momentum into theNCAA Tournament and advance to the Sweet 16.

After graduating with a BA in International Relations from Syracuse, Ongenaet played professionally for Sutor Basket Montegranaro. He'll forever be remembered as the guy who gave 100 percent and never took a play off. Unless you're Bill Raftery. Then you'll probably remember him for this:

Rick Springfield Roars at NYS Fair, Thanks Fans for Supporting His Butt (PS; review; Herbert)

Rick Springfield is a bona fide performer.

The actor, singer, author and rock star performed on opening day of the 2015 New York State Fair at Chevy Court, and he was loving every minute of it. That may come as a surprise to some who thought he'd be turned off by a lawsuit filed by Liverpool resident Vicki Calcagno, who claimed he injured her when he fell on her with his butt at the same concert venue in 2004.

But a jury ruled in favor of Springfield when the case made its way to a Syracuse court this past January, and he wasn't going to hold a grudge over it. In fact, shortly after the verdict he promised fans they could expect to see him back in Central New York again -- "and my butt!"

Springfield made good on his promise Thursday, taking the stage around 8:15 p.m. after video introduction highlighted his career, from "Jessie's Girl" and "General Hospital" to interviews with Oprah and Jimmy Kimmel, appearances on "True Detective" and in Meryl Streep's "Ricki and the Flash," and even a clip of Dave Grohl shouting out "Rick --ing Springfield" in "Sonic Highways."

He kicked off the show with new song "Light This Party Up," wailing away on guitar and pumping the crowd up. The audience cheered on, holding up signs wishing him a happy birthday (he turned 66 on Sunday) or "Rick your butt can fall on me anytime."
