In 1953, C.A. Swanson & Sons introduced a new product called “TV Dinners” and changed the prepackaged meal industry forever. The Smithsonian Institute inducted the original Swanson TV Dinner tray into the Museum of American History in 1986. Today we celebrate this piece of American cultural history with TV Dinner Day!
The term “TV Dinner” is now synonymous with any prepackaged, frozen meal that requires little preparation and contains an entire single-serving meal. Modern-day TV dinners can be cooked in the microwave (instead of the oven) and include gourmet recipes as well as organic and vegetarian dishes.

The Orange Needs More Obokoh in 2015-16 (TNIAAM; Burke)
Since news broke that center Moustapha Diagne wouldn't be coming to Syracuse this year, we've speculated a lot about how the Orange should distribute minutes at the center position. Admittedly, most of that speculation has come under the assumption that Chinonso Obokoh, SU's junior center, isn't going to take a big leap forward in 2015-16 after a dismal 2014-15.
In limited playing time last season, Obokoh was very inefficient offensively. He averaged fewer than a point per game and in the final five games he appeared in, Obokoh didn't attempt a single field goal. There was never any indication that the big man was even slightly comfortable in the offense, prompting head coach Jim Boeheim to say after one game that Obokoh wasn't ready.
In other areas, Obokoh wasn't nearly as bad -- in fact, he wasn't bad at all. He rebounded at a pretty solid rate (9.4 boards per 40 minutes) for his position and flashed potential as a shot-blocker, denying 1.8 shots per 40 minutes. And even though the sample size was small -- Obokoh blocked only four shots the whole season -- his size is enough for me to believe he can be at least a serviceable rebounder and rim protector moving forward.
Still, it's difficult for some to justify having Obokoh on the floor for long stretches, because when you do, you're essentially opting to play 4-on-5 on the offensive end. That's a big sacrifice to make, but it's one SU head coach Jim Boeheim will probably be willing to make as long as it benefits the 2-3 zone. Obokoh, who wasn't needed last season thanks to Rakeem Christmas' dominance, is one of only two centers on the roster -- the other being DaJuan Coleman -- eligible to play this season. Unless Boeheim wants to use super-small lineups, Obokoh will almost certainly be used in a recurring role.

Oregon State Assistant Coach Stevie Thompson to be Honored (statesmanjournal.com; Horowitz)
Oregon State men's assistant basketball coach Stephen Thompson will be honored this week by his alma mater, Syracuse University.
Thompson, a three-year starter for the Orange, has been selected as a Letter Winner of Distinction by the Syracuse University Varsity Club. He will receive the honor Friday at the Oncenter in Syracuse, New York.
Thompson is regarded as one of the premier players in school history. He earned all-American honors in 1989-90 and was named the Big East Conference's men's basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1990. As a freshman in 1987, Thompson played in the NCAA championship game against Indiana.
Thompson went on to play in the NBA with the Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets, and played professionally in Europe, Japan, the CBA and ABA.
He is entering his second season on coach Wayne Tinkle's staff. Thompson's son, Stephen Thompson Jr., will be a freshman on the OSU men's basketball team for the 2015-16 season.

Behind the Scenes of the Filming of 'American Dresser' (PS; Weaver)
"American Dresser" is a road trip movie. Two friends – the actors Tom Berenger and Keith David -- take off on their motorcycles from Long Island to California in search of a recently discovered son.
The actual route, however, crisscrosses the Syracuse area. In recent days, the film crew has shot scenes at the New York State Fair in Geddes, a cabin in Phoenix and a house on Syracuse's east side.
On Tuesday, the crew filmed at a gas station and tavern at Route 298 and Bridgeport Road in Manlius.
The scene at the Crossroads Tavern is set for late in the movie, as Berenger and David's character cross from Nevada into California.

A scene on Tuesday, outside the Crossroads Tavern, called for Berenger to ride up on a motorcycle that had just given him trouble, get off the bike and blow up in frustration.
Since Berenger isn't doing his own riding for the movie, the shot started with Berenger standing beside the bike.
When "action" was called, Berenger began with a classic imitation – hands revving fake handlebars, noises evoking a 6-year-old steering a motorcycle around the living room.
Then the actor jumped to an R-rated string of curses aimed at the bike.
