While keyboarding teachers and bosses probably won’t be participating in this particular holiday anytime soon, texters will probably appreciate today’s annual celebration. October 14 is national lowercase day!
Rules of capitalizationcan often be quite confusing. While you are supposed to capitalize proper nouns, months and days of the week, you are not supposed to capitalize the seasons except when used in a title. And speaking of titles, they have special rules too. Job titles should be capitalized when used before a name or after the name in a signature line. But if the title is after a person’s name, it should be lowercase. First and last words in titles of publications along with nouns, adjectives and verbs should be capitalized but articles, coordinating conjunctions and prepositions should not. Some say determining whether or not to capitalize depends on how many letters are in the word. Geesh - who can keep it all straight?
Who needs to waste valuable time capitalizing certain words anyway? So go ahead - live a little. Turn off that auto-correct and don’t hit the Caps Lock key today! Just be sure to put everything back to normal tomorrow!

How Many Games Will SU Basketball Win in 2015-16? (thejuice; Irvine)
Every year I write this article, and every year I find Syracuse in the same situation. After showing just enough promise to raise the hopes of diehard fans, Syracuse football has once again fallen flat on its face. It’s not time to give up on football yet, but with Orange Madness this Friday and the first exhibition against Le Moyne less than 3 weeks away, it’s OK to start thinking about basketball season.
This year’s team comes with an unusual amount of intrigue simply because its unusual characteristics. For the first time in years, Syracuse can space the floor with multiple 3-point threats at the forward and guard positions. Syracuse may play two freshmen in the regular rotation – and not even the two that were expected just a couple months ago. The team will be big at the guard spot and small at the center position. As a result, this team will be playing a different style of basketball than we have seen from previous Boeheim teams.
To predict the team’s success, as in the past two seasons, I have used a regression model to calculate the team’s expected winning percentage. The model accounts for the returning talent by examining the previous year’s winning percentage and the percentage of returning minutes played; it accounts for incoming talent by examining the RSCI ranking of incoming freshmen, their expected playing time, and the potential impact of any transfers.…
Countdown to Orange Madness: SU’s Lack of Depth at Center (DO; Dougherty)
When Paschal Chukwu makes his Syracuse debut, he’ll protect the rim with floor-scraping length and provide frontcourt depth that eluded the Orange last season.
Chukwu stands 7 feet, 2 inches and is built to stand in the middle of Jim Boeheim’s 2-3 zone. It will take some fine-tuning, on the court and in the weight room, to get him ready on both ends of the floor. But, unfortunately for SU’s immediate future, the Orange will have time to develop Chukwu as he sits out the 2015-16 season after transferring from Providence.
The transfer year will help Chukwu moving forward, but it does nothing to quell concerns surrounding Syracuse’s lack of depth at center. Dajuan Coleman, the only SU center with marginal college experience,hasn’t played a game since Jan. 7, 2014 and missed all of last season recovering from knee surgery.
After Coleman, the Orange’s only other scholarship center is Chinonso Obokoh, who stands at 6 feet, 9 inches and is starting his second active season with Syracuse. Obokoh played sparingly in place of Rakeem Christmas last season, and didn’t showcase an ability to contribute on the offensive end. He looks to be the center that will relieve Coleman if he’s in foul trouble. That’s troubling for an SU team that will face a number of talented frontcourts this season.…

What of highly-touted freshman Malachi Richardson?
CBSSports' Jon Rothstein was at SU on Tuesday to take a sneak peak at the team and amongst his tidbits on the day, he dropped one piece of news that helped clear up those questions a bit.
Now, the first caveat when it comes to Jim Boeheim and Syracuse basketball is that starting lineups are overrated. Boeheim had a strategy of bringing in starter-quality players as the sixth-man and seventh-man for a few seasons now (just askDion Waiters). However, starting Gbinije is not only interesting for what it means with guards (Joseph as sixth-man?) but also how it affects the forwards….

Residents Speak Out Against Proposed CNY Inland Port (PS; Doran)
Residents turned out in force Tuesday night to object to locating a proposed cargo distribution center, or inland port, on a 225-acre site in the Jamesville area.
More than 150 residents attended a public meeting at Jamesville Elementary School Tuesday night as part of the environmental review process required for approving the port.
Those who live near the site expressed concerns about noise, pollution, increased train and truck traffic, safety and traffic delays.
The New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway, which would be a partner in the project, operates a rail line through the site. It also passes through the hamlet of Jamesville.
Nico Commandeur of DeWitt expressed the views echoed by many residents who said they are concerned about increased truck and train traffic, and traffic congestion in general.
"Should we be importing traffic congestion to Syracuse,'' Commandeur asked. "I think this is a bad economic idea and the location is foolhardy."
The CenterState NY Inland Portis proposed for a 225-acre siteoff Interstate 481 in the town of DeWitt, with a portion of it in the town of Onondaga.
The targeted site is a 107-year-old stone quarry, and calls for trains to bring cargo to and from Atlantic Ocean and Lake Ontario ports to Central New York. Trucks would haul the containers in and out of the facility to destinations in the United States and Canada.
The cargo hub would create jobs for as many as 2,000 workers, project proponents say….
