Want-to-Sign-a-National-Letter-of-Intent-During-the-Early-Signing-Period.jpg

Welcome to National Letter of Intent Day (Football)!

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a document used to indicate a student athlete's commitment to participating National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) colleges and universities in the United States. The NCAA Eligibility Center manages the daily operations of the NLI program while the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) provides governance oversight of the program. Started in 1964 with seven conferences and eight independent institutions, the program now includes 676 Division I and II participating institutions. There are designated dates for different sports, and these dates are commonly referred to as "Signing Day".

Division III institutions are specifically banned from using the NLI, or any similar document that is not executed by non-athletes at those institutions.[1]

NLIs are typically faxed by the recruited student to the university's athletic department on a National Signing Day.[2] The NLI is a voluntary program with regard to both institutions and student-athletes. No prospective student-athlete or parent is required to sign the National Letter of Intent, and no institution is required to join the program.

Trevor Cooney Rewards Jim Boeheim's Faith with Key 3-Pointer in OT (PS; Carlson)

Syracuse guard Trevor Cooney wasn't counting the misses. But, yeah, he knew exactly how wayward his shot had been for the past 40 minutes.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim wasn't ignorant. Neither were Cooney's teammates.

But when Syracuse found itself dialing up a play with 3:16 remaining in overtime, with the game tied and six games of hard work returning to postseason relevance at stake, Cooney and Boeheim found the fortitude to do what few would.

They ignored everything they'd just seen. And they were rewarded for it.

"I knew I didn't make a lot of them," Cooney said. "I knew I was (struggling). But it gives you a little confidence boost when Coach Boeheim calls a play for you and you're 1-for-9."

The play wasn't necessarily for Cooney to take the shot. He had passing options if he was well-defended.

He was well-defended. Just not well-defended enough.

'Cuse Pulls Off 68-60 OT Win Vs. Hokies (cuse.com)

In a game Syracuse did not lead until the game got into overtime, the Orange pulled off a 68-60, overtime triumph against Virginia Tech on Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome. A jumper by Michael Gbinije 22 seconds into overtime gave the home team its first lead of the game and the Orange (16-8, 6-5) outscored the Hokies (12-11, 4-6) in the extra session, 12-4.

Gbinije led both teams in scoring on the night, racking up 17 points for his 24th double-digit point total of the season. The freshman duo of Tyler Lydon and Malachi Richardson each tallied 13 points, with Lydon adding six rebounds and Richardson dishing out four assists.

Junior Tyler Roberson pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds while adding 12 points on the evening. It marked his squad-leading sixth double-double of the year.

The Orange trailed by seven, 55-48, with 2:26 left, before unleashing a furious rally. A 3-pointer by Richardson followed by a Lydon dunk narrowed the gap to two, 55-52, with 1:02 remaining in regulation. After a Virginia Tech free throw, Gbinije fired a deep three at the other end to knot the game up at 56 with 34 seconds left to play.

Naz Reid is a Large Man

SU Hoops Recruiting Roundup (the juice; Cheng)

...
SNY.tv’s very own, Adam Zagoria, has several tidbits from the Syracuse basketball recruiting world. Coach-in-waiting Mike Hopkins will be on hand to see 2018 big man Naz Reid on Wednesday. Reid is being pursued by Maryland, LSU and Villanova, among others.

Speaking of Autry, he will be on hand to watch 2018 wing Louis King on Friday. He is a former teammate of Reid’s at Roselle Catholic and holds offers from Seton Hall and St. John’s, among others.

Finally, Pope John (NJ) sophomore guard Aaron Clarke is also getting a look from the Orange. Zagoria reports that Seton Hall is another school that is pursuing Clarke.

That’s all for today, everyone. Enjoy your NLI day!

Time Warner Customers Will Soon Need a Converter Box on Every TV (PS; Moriarty)

Time Warner Cable customers will soon no longer be able to plug their cable line directly into their televisions and receive service without a set-top box or digital adapter.

The cable company recently notified customers in the Hudson Valley that it will be going "all digital" starting March 15. Time Warner said the move will free up system capacity so it can provide dramatically faster Internet speeds, but will also require customers to use a set-top box or adapter on all of their televisions.

Nathalie Burgos, a spokeswoman for the company, said the change will affect Central New York customers, too, but that the timing of the switch here has not yet been finalized.

Currently, customers in Central New York can receive about 70 channels by plugging their cable lines directly into their televisions, without routing the cable through a set-top box or adapter. All of the channels, except for a few local broadcast stations, are in standard definition, even if the customer subscribes to one of the company's digital packages.
