Welcome to NASCAR Day!

Observed across the United States on the third Friday in May is NASCAR Day. This day is a celebration of NASCAR drivers, celebrities, corporate partners, media and millions of fans coming together to raise funds for charitable causes. “We believe our greatest asset is the power and passion of our NASCAR fans: passion both for the sport and for giving back. Dino Babers Focused on Making Syracuse Up Tempo (video; wbng.com)

Syracuse's first-year head football coach Dino Babers joined the 'No Huddle Tour' in Binghamton. Babers spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Bowling Green. Under Babers in 2015 Bowling Green finished third in the nation in total yards gained and sixth in the county in points scored.

Syracuse fans are hoping Babers brought that type of high powered offense with him to SU and Babers says his main focus for the program right now is implementing his up-tempo scheme.

"I think the biggest challenge is we are going to a fast-paced offensive and defensive," Babers said. "Teaching the players who are coming from an option system, or a man system, some of the things we are going to do. It's a totally different scheme. We are going to have to have some faith. We are going to take some time to get the players to adjust to the new style."

Syracuse's first game under Coach Babers is September 2nd inside the Carrier Dome against Colgate

Riley Dixon Could Be a Bronco (milehighreport.com; Keeley & Lattimore-Volkmann)

Sean Keeley of Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician tells MHR that the punter the Broncos selected to compete with Britton Colquitt could absolutely help this defending Super Bowl championship team.

It's not every year that an NFL team is talking up a punter as one of its top draft picks, but after the Broncos took Riley Dixon from Syracuse in the seventh round, Broncos GM John Elway and Special Teams coach Joe DeCamillis were doing just that.

"He's got a real good chance to be a good punter in the NFL," Camillis said of the once-Heisman Trophy candidate.

The question is whether the former walk-on-turned-scholarship-punter with fiery orange hair for the Syracuse Orange can be a good punter for the defending Super Bowl champions, and Sean Keeley believes he absolutely can.

Granted the founder of the Syracuse blog, Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician, is unabashedly biased, he makes some compelling arguments below (and given the fat contract our current punter holds, there could be millions of reasons to keep Dixon).

MHR - The Broncos drafted Syracuse punter Riley Dixon in the seventh round - their last pick of the 2016 Draft. Was this a smart use of a draft pick, in your opinion, for a team with a lot of current talent at many positions?

...
Detroit Cass Tech defensive end Zach Morton was the defensive line MVP. For the second straight week, he was excellent on the edge, showing good quickness off the ball and the agility to beat offensive linemen. He is committed to Syracuse.

Ranking the Top Ten ACC QBs for 2016 (BR; Wallace)

The state of quarterbacking in the ACC runs the gamut. At the top of the group reside several of the nation’s best signal-callers, who have eye-popping skills and NFL futures ahead. You have one of the nation’s best option quarterbacks and several quarterbacks who’ll try to replace predecessors who led championship drives last season.

10. Eric Dungey Syracuse

Syracuse officials decided that a change was in order after three years of the Scott Shafer era. Shafer led the Orange to seven wins and a bowl in his first season, but he regressed afterward, managing just seven wins in two seasons while playing lifeless football. Syracuse made a smart hire in now-former Bowling Green head coach Dino Babers, who runs a lightning-fast offense that is anything but boring.

He’ll need a quarterback he trusts in that system, and that could be Eric Dungey. Dungey was solid as a freshman, throwing for 1,298 yards with 11 touchdowns against five interceptions and rushing for 351 yards and five touchdowns before missing the final three games due to injury.

If Dungey proves he can handle the fast pace Babers requires, he’ll likely be the man in Syracuse.

House of the Week: Downtown Syracuse Living with a Coffee Shop (PS; Pucci)

Only blocks away from Syracuse University and Upstate University Hospital, Fayette Place makes downtown Syracuse living easy.

Having a Cafe Kubal in the building doesn't hurt either.

Fayette Place, 712 E. Fayette St., is a brand-new building made up of 39 one-bedroom apartments. The building is equipped with Wi-Fi, key fob entry that allows tenants to "buzz in" guests through their cell phones and emergency panic buttons on each floor.

Cafe Kubal doesn't open until mid-June, but tenants are moving in by mid-May, said Steve Case, owner of Acropolis Development and Brokerage.

Among the other properties Case's company manages include the Hogan Block Building, 235 E. Water St. and the former C.G. Meaker Food Co. warehouse that was recentlytransformed into 33 apartments.
