Welcome to Election Day!

In the United States, Election Day is the day set by law for the general elections of federal public officials. It is statutorily set as "the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November" or "the first Tuesday after November 1".[1] The earliest possible date is November 2, and the latest possible date is November 8.

ACC Power Rankings: Where does Syracuse football stand after Florida State loss? (PS; Axe)

The ACC title game is coming into focus.

Clemson took control of the ACC Atlantic Division with a 38-31 win over N.C. State while Miami rolled by Virginia Tech 28-10 to strengthen its hold at the top of the Coastal.

Clemson is one win away from the Atlantic Division title. Miami's ACC title drought is all but over, with only a win by Virginia this weekend holding up the inevitable.

Miami passed the first of two big tests with its win over the Hokies. An old fashioned "Catholics vs. Convicts" matchup awaits this weekend when the 'Canes host Notre Dame.

The top of the league is set but how did things shake out below the mountaintop Clemson and Miami sit on? Let's take a look at this week's ACC power rankings.

Syracuse opens as 3 point favorite over Wake Forest down to 1-1.5 now (3 PM, RSN) (bloggersodear.com; Johnston)

The game time and the Vegas line has been set for Wake Forest’s trip to the Carrier Dome to take on Syracuse on Saturday.

Essentially the entire ACC received a six-day hold last weekend for kickoff times for the November 11th slate of games, but it was announced yesterday that Syracuse will host Wake Forest at 3 PM on Saturday on RSN.

The Orange and the Demon Deacons are both coming off of losses this past weekend, as Cuse fell to Florida State 27-24, while Wake lost to Notre Dame 48-37.

Syracuse enters the game at 4-4, while Wake Forest sits at 5-3. This is a huge game for both teams as far as bowl eligibility is concerned. After Wake, the Orange will play at Louisville before hosting Boston College. It needs two out of three to make a bowl game.

Notre Dame Football VS Wake Forest: Stats That Lie and Stats That Don’t (onefootdown.com; Wechter)

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish jumped out to an early lead on Saturday against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and then let the opposition pile up yardage and points. The Irish still won by double digits; here’s how the stats tell the story.

Stats That Lie

Wake Forest piled up 587 total yards and 37 points against a Notre Dame defense that at times looked uncharacteristically out of position and didn’t tackle well. Wake Forest QB John Wolfordwas 28 of 45 (that’s a lot of passes) for 331 yards with two touchdowns, and the Demon Deacons rushed for 239 yards and three scores on 40 carries.

Simply put, that’s a lot of offensive plays and a lot of time to be on the field for the Irish defense. With a big lead, the Irish went pretty vanilla, so I’m not too worried about the “garbage time” yards and points (it was 31-10 at the half). You must also consider the fact that Mike Elko worked for Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson for decades at multiple different programs. Coach Clawson probably new just what the Wake Forest offense needed to do to confuse a Mike Elko defense. I don’t think the stats are fully truthful in this instance for those reasons.

ACC Power Rankings: Conspiracies, Clemson and playoff payouts (newsobserver.com; Giglio)

I love a good conspiracy.

▪ Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone?

▪ Was the moon landing real?

▪ Does Clemson get “all the calls” because the ACC needs a team in the College Football Playoff?

I can’t speak to the first two, but there are some financial circumstances to the last one that many college football fans don’t quite understand.

The cut for the “Power 5” conference teams is not contingent on participation. The ACC will get about $57 million from the CFP this year if it has a team selected for the four-team playoff or not. So will the Big 12, the Big Ten, the Pac-12 and the SEC.

Upstate NY man gets 2 moose: One on Canadian hunt; the other on his trail camera (PS; Figura)

In late September, Ken Burd spent several thousand dollars for a successful, 10-day moose hunting trip in Newfoundland.

When he returned, the Clay, N.Y. resident checked his trail camera that he had set up for deer hunting on leased land in Oseola in Lewis County.

Much to his surprise, there were two photos of a bull moose. Judging by the photographs, the moose was slightly bigger than the bull he shot on his hunting trip.
"He checked the pictures the day after he got back. It was about 11 p.m. when (he noticed the moose photos)," said his wife, Gerry. "He started hollering. I thought he was going to have a heart attack."

It is illegal to hunt moose in New York State. Burd said it was exiciting to get the moose photos on his trail camera.

"I haven't seen him since," Burd said. "He was just passing through, looking for a mate."
