Welcome to National Cappuccino Day!

National Cappuccino Day is observed annually on November 8. A nice hot cup of cappuccino is perfect on a frosty morning, meeting with friends or just to enjoy a creamy cuppa.

Traditionally prepared with espresso, hot milk, and steamed-milk foam, a cappuccino is an Italian coffee drink.

The word cappuccino comes from the Capuchin friars and is the diminutive form of cappuccio in Italian, meaning hood or something that covers the head. This popular coffee beverage got its name not from the hood on their habits but from the color of the hooded robes that the friars wore. (The Capuchin friars is an Order of friars in the Catholic Church, among the chief offshoots of the Franciscans.)

Wake Forest Depth Chart vs. Syracuse: Injuries are still a problem (bloggersodear.com; Johnston)

The Wake Forest depth chart came out today ahead of the media luncheon and there is still no sign of Jessie Bates, III or Cade Carney on the two-deep, effectively eliminating any chance that either will suit up against Syracuse this weekend.

Each player missed the game against Notre Dame last weekend, and the loss of Bates was evident as Notre Dame gashed the Wake Forest defense through the air and on the ground en route to over 700 yards and 48 points.

This week will not be a reprieve for the defense either. While Syracuse ranks just 69th offensively in S&P, it boats the nation’s 25th best passing attack behind QB Eric Dungey and the electric receiving duo of Steve Ishmael and Ervin Philips. Both receivers have caught over 70 passes this season and been targeted 235 times (63% of all targets are to these two guys).

My guess is they go to the air early and often to try to exploit the young corners and redshirt safety Luke Masterson, who will get the start again over Bates.

Get to know Wake Forest, Syracuse football's next opponent (PS; Mink)

Syracuse football hosts Wake Forest at 3 Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

The Demon Deacons sit one victory shy of clinching bowl eligibility and close out the season with games against in-state competition North Carolina State and Duke.

Let's take a closer look at Wake ahead of Saturday's matchup.

COACH: DAVE CLAWSON
Clawson is connected to Dino Babers in this significant way: He preceded Babers at Bowling Green, helping shape the roster Babers inherited and turned into a MAC champion himself two years after Clawson won the conference.

After back-to-back 3-9 seasons to open his tenure at Wake Forest, Clawson is vying for back-to-back bowl bids at a place in which that hasn't been done since 2006-08 under Jim Grobe.

Wake needs Jessie Bates back for match-ups with Syracuse, NC State - ACCSports.com (accsports, com; WI)

Almost all the public and media attention last week was focused on the season-ending injury to Greg Dortch, Wake Forest’s outstanding receiver. That certainly made sense, considering Dortch was coming off a dominant, four-touchdown showing against Louisville.

But those around the football office were possibly more worried about a different injury: the knee problem that was going to sideline safety Jessie Bates for an undetermined amount of time.

Those worries played out against Notre Dame, and if the injury lingers, it could derail the Deacons’ bowl hopes.

More than any other player over the last two seasons, Bates has been the glue that ties the Wake Forest defense. Last season, as a redshirt freshman, he finished second on the team with 100 tackles and led the Deacons with five interceptions — tied for second in the ACC. This season, he was leading the team in tackles and had posted his third pick-six of his career.

Syracuse Football Report Card: Who stood out in loss to FSU? (itlh.com; Carey)

The Syracuse football team couldn’t find their first road win in 2017, falling to FSU 27 to 24. ITLH gives their weekly report card on this week’s loss.
The Syracuse football squad suffered another tough loss this past weekend in the state of Florida, this time at the hands of Florida State. Syracuse has now lost two in a row after knocking off previous undefeated Clemson in the Carrier Dome on Friday October 13th.

Syracuse once again fought hard for the entire game but, ultimately came up just short, as Kicker Cole Murphy’s field goal sailed wide left at the end of the game. The kick would have sent the game into overtime and given Syracuse a new life.

Once again Eric Dungey and the Orange offense was stagnant throughout much of the first half. Dungey was picked off on the first offensive drive of the game (stop me if you’ve heard that before). The Syracuse offense has to do a much better job of starting these games out with a lead. Syracuse has yet to win a game when their opponent scores first in this season.

Quarterman: We can't lose to Notre Dame (espn; Adelson)

The history between Miami and Notre Dame might be a little foggy to current players on both teams because none of them were alive during the rivalry's heyday.

But it is completely clear what is at stake when the two teams play on Saturday night, their first meeting in Miami since 1989.

"We all know that we can't lose to them," Miami linebacker Shaq Quarterman said after practice Tuesday. "Last year happened, and we didn't come out with the results we wanted, but this year we can't lose to them. It's just the standard that was set before us."
