Welcome to Hot Air Balloon Day!

Hot air balloons are the oldest form of technology to carry humans, with the first human flight taking place in November, 1783 in Paris, France. Prior to humans taking flight, three farm animals, which some sources say were a pig, duck, and rooster, took to the sky in June, 1783. This flight lasted 10 minutes and the balloon went up approximately 6,000 feet. This balloon was created by the Montgolfier brothers out of sackcloth and paper. Hot air balloons consist of an envelope, which is a large balloon-like bag containing heated low-density air which causes the hot air balloon to rise, and a gondola which holds the passengers, as well as the device which creates the hot air that rises into the envelope. The fabric of modern air balloons usually consists of ripstop nylon or polyester. Both leisure and travel have been affected by the hot air balloon, which is why a day exists for it.

https://www.si.com/college/syracuse/recruiting/tristen-graham-commits-to-syracuse (SI; McAllister)

Class of 2024 Middletown (DE) High defensive end Tristen Graham has committed to Syracuse during his official visit over the weekend, he tells All Syracuse. Graham, a 6-3, 245 pound defensive lineman, picked the Orange over offers from Michigan State, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Temple and others. He was also receiving interest from West Virginia and had visited Michigan State this spring.

Graham is rated a three star prospect by On3 Recruiting, the 58th best Edge prospect in the 2024 class and the number one player in the state of Delaware. The other major recruiting services, 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals, have not evaluated Graham and rated him to date. That should come in the near future, however.

Graham was offered by Syracuse in March and took an unofficial visit in April to get his a closer look at the school and program. The Orange prioritized him from that point on, culminating in this past weekend's official visit where the staff sealed the deal.

Syracuse football lands verbal commitment from top-ranked recruit in Delaware (report) (PS; Carlson)

The highest-ranked football recruit in Delaware committed to Syracuse football on Sunday, according to a report from Syracuse Orange on Fan Nation reporter Mike McCallister.

Tristen Graham, a 3-star defensive end recruit listed at 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds by On3Sports.com, took an official visit to Syracuse over the weekend, where McCallister reported that he committed to play for the Orange.

Graham could not be reached immediately by Syracuse.com via social media.

He is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in Delaware according to On3Sports.com. He has not been graded by the other major recruiting websites (247 Sports, ESPN or Rivals). The various recruiting websites list Graham with offers from Michigan State, Temple, Old Dominion, Buffalo and other schools.

Graham plays at Middletown High School, a Delaware powerhouse that has won eight state titles and has produced a number of the state’s top players in recent years.

Syracuse football scores commitment from 2024 3-star edge on official visit (itlh; Adler)

Three-star junior defensive end Tristen Graham out of Delaware has verbally committed to Syracuse football, according to a media report.

Per an article from recruiting analyst Charles Kang of The Juice Online, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Graham had planned to make his commitment announcement on Monday. However, a piece by SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister on Sunday said that Graham committed to the ‘Cuse while on his official visit to the SU campus this weekend.

Kang had logged a prediction in the Orange’s direction for Graham on , which was an encouraging sign for the ‘Cuse coaching staff as it attempted to prevail in Graham’s recruitment.

Graham is a standout All-State edge rusher in the 2024 class who attends Middletown High School in Middletown, Del.

Syracuse football has picked up a verbal commitment from 2024 three-star edge Tristen Graham.

Per his Twitter page, Orange coaches offered a scholarship to Graham on March 21 of this year. According to recruiting services, his offer sheet also includes Buffalo, Campbell, Howard, Michigan State, Old Dominion and Temple. Graham also has offers, noted on Twitter, from Coastal Carolina and Delaware State.

Class of 2024 Denton (TX) Guyer offensive lineman Willie Goodacre released his top six on Friday and Syracuse made the cut. In addition to the Orange, Arizona State, Cal, Houston, Kansas and Tulane comprised Goodacre's top schools. Syracuse extended its offer in January.

"I think it's a great school," Goodacre said. "The mob mentality of the program is something I highly respect and coach Farmer is definitely someone who I'm able to buy into."

Farmer is the lead recruiter for Goodacre and the two have developed a strong relationship over the last several months. So much so that not only did Syracuse make Goodacre's top six, but the Orange has secured an official visit for the weekend of June 16th.

"I'm looking to see the culture of the city," Goodacre said. "And a place I can see myself at and around for more than four years."

Goodacre is one of the top offensive linemen in the state of Texas. He is listed at 6-5, 280 pounds. While he plays tackle in high school, he has the skill set to play inside at the next level as well. Beyond his top six, Goodacre also reported offers from BYU, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan State, SMU, Missouri and others. He is rated a three star prospect by all of the major recruiting services.

Syracuse Football: Orange appears a long shot for pair of 4-stars from N.J. (itlh; Adler)

Based on some recent media reports and analyst buzz on recruiting Web sites, Syracuse football may be considered a long shot at this juncture for two 2024 four-star prospects from New Jersey.

Now, the recruiting processes of these top-flight players can ebb and flow, so maybe the Orange is still a contender for 2024 four-star defensive back Kaj Sanders and 2024 four-star athlete Willy Love.

I’m also not a recruiting expert, and I’m basing my thoughts here on what I’ve read about these two talented players. I’ll of course continue to track the recruitments of both the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Sanders and the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Love.

However, my personal take is that the Orange isn’t likely to prevail for either of these guys. Naturally, I hope that I’m wrong.

Here’s the latest with four-stars Kaj Sanders and Willy Love, who both hold Syracuse football offers.

Last month, Sanders disclosed a top 10 of the Orange, Notre Dame, Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Miami. Syracuse football coaches offered a scholarship to him in October of 2021.

The junior at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J., has said via Twitter that he’s planning to make his commitment announcement on July 30.

Get to Know Your Orange Man: #92 K Brady Denaburg (TNIAAM; De Guzman)

It’s time to start preparing for the upcoming Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get ready for a critical season for the Orange.

Up next is….

Name: Brady Denaburg

Position: Kicker

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 180 lbs.

Hometown: Merritt Island, Fla.

High school: Merritt Island

2022 stats: Took over during the UConn game as the primary kickoff specialist, handling the kickoffs ever since. He was good for 41 touchbacks on 63 attempts and only committed one out-of-bounds foul.

2023 projections: With Andre Szmyt gone, it seems like Denaburg has been given the first opportunity to be Syracuse’s new placekicker, as he handled the role during the Orange spring game. He’s got big shoes to fill, but it seems like he at least has the leg power.

2025 OT Carter Stallard previews Syracuse camp (247sports.com; Finneral)

Class of 2025 offensive lineman Carter Stallard is set to attend a camp at Syracuse on June 24th. Stallard enjoys the Syracuse program and can’t wait to attend the camp.

“I think they’re a great program,” Stallard said. “They are in my top five right now.”

Stallard plays at Christiansburg High School in Virginia. He has had a great time interacting with offensive line coach Steve Farmer and director of player development Deon Maddox.

“Coach Farmer and coach Maddox are both in my opinion the best recruiting coaches I’ve had,” Stallard said. “They keep in contact with my coaches and me and they just keep up with me.”

Stallard has not picked up an offer from Syracuse yet, but he is hoping to earn one in the future. He said he is excited to showcase his skill set and hard work at camp.

“I’m looking forward most to showing them how physical I am in the trenches,” Stallard said. “Also, how I can dominate the defensive line.”

Stallard is six-foot-eight, 310-pounds and uses that size to his advantage, creating huge running lanes for his teammates. Although he is a powerful athlete, Stallard understands the importance of having good technique.

On Sunday, Syracuse hosts its Elite Prospect Camp and Specialist Camp. Both are open to high school, prep school, junior college or CEGEP (publicly funded colleges in Quebec, like the one former SU offensive tackle Matthew Bergeron attended) prospects.

Elite Prospect Camp is at capacity, per the registration website. It covers all positions except for kickers, punters and long snappers, who attend Specialist Camp.

Some prospects have publicized their attendance.

One of them is Class of 2027 wide receiver and safety Dariel Jaquez. He’s the younger brother of SU defensive lineman Denis Jaquez Jr., who’s entering his sophomore year. It will be the first collegiate camp Dariel Jaquez attends.

There are at least two quarterbacks in the Class of 2024 attending — Nico Brown and Vincent Zimmerman. Syracuse will be looking to pick up a QB in the upcoming recruiting class to build its depth with Garrett Shrader departing after the 2023 season.

ACC football: Immediate impact true freshmen for every team ahead of 2023 season (247sports.com; Hughes)

ACC depth charts are slowly coming into focus after the conclusion of spring ball in April, and several freshmen across the league are poised to immediately impact their respective programs next season. With the help of teamsite leaders, we've identified one true freshman to keep an eye on for each ACC program next fall, including intel on why they've stood out this offseason.

Miami usurped Clemson for the ACC's top recruiting class this offseason, inking a 25-man signing group that ranked No. 7 in the nation. Clemson fell outside of the top 10 for the first time since 2017 but still managed to sign the No. 2 class in the conference and No. 11 overall. Florida State (No. 19), North Carolina (No. 30) and Louisville (No. 35) rounded out the top five, while Boston College (No. 61), Virginia (No. 64) and Syracuse (No. 91) finished as the bottom three.

None of these prospects are guaranteed to rack up national accolades this season, as making the two-deep is a great first year for most freshmen. However, several seem ahead of the curve, including five-star prospects from Miami and Clemson.

Here's a look at the true freshman most likely to make an immediate impact at every ACC school in 2023:

BOSTON COLLEGE: CARTER DAVIS, S

247Sports Ranking: 3-star | Ovr: N/A | Position: 102
Davis totaled 65 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble and four pass break-ups his senior season at Mount Saint Joseph (Md.) and carried that momentum into his first offseason at Boston College, according to Eagle Insider's AJ Black.
"Davis had a strong spring game and looked very ready to break into two deep for the fall," Black told 247Sports.
Boston College ranked No. 5 in the ACC in pass defense a season ago, and continued development from players like Davis could keep the Eagles near the top for years to come.

WAKE FOREST: ANTONIO ROBINSON, CB

247Sports Ranking: 3-star | Ovr: 518 | Position: 53
Four-star wide receiver Micah Mays headlined Wake Forest's class, but Robinson has a more straightforward path to immediate playing time with starters Gavin Holmes and JJ Roberts entering the portal and starting nickel Coby Davis moving on from college football.
"Robinson has elite athletic abilities, and with him enrolling early, gives him a leg up in terms of putting things together," Demon Deacons Digest's Cameron Lemons Debro wrote. "At worst, he should add value year one on special teams: both in the return game as well as on coverage units, something Wake has struggled with."

GEORGIA TECH: EVAN DICKENS, RB

247Sports Ranking: 3-star | Ovr: N/A | Position: 88
Georgia Tech has a serious lack of depth in its running back room, and Dickens looks to take advantage after a strong senior season at IMG Academy (Fla.), where he rushed for 480 yards and nine touchdowns on 57 carries.
"[Dickens] had a crazy spring," Dontae Smith, the leader of the running back room, said. "He learned the plays. He learned the schemes and went out there and executed at a high level. Hats off to Evan for having such a great spring."

SYRACUSE: TOO EARLY TO TELL

"No freshmen are standing out too much at the moment," CuseNation's James Finneral told 247Sports.
Syracuse failed to sign a four-star recruit for a fifth-straight recruiting cycle this offseason. The Orange's highest-rated recruit, three-star running back Ike Daniels, is rated as the No. 899 prospect in the class. He's Syracuse's only recruit with a national ranking.

"Daniels is a promising young running back from Mountain View High School in Stafford, Virginia," Finneral wrote. "He had a star-studded season with over 1,700 yards and 20 touchdowns. Daniels' speed allows him to leave defenders in the dust when he has room to run."

2023 ACC College Football Win Totals

Updated ESPN projections, outlook for Clemson and the ACC (tigernet.com; Staff)

ESPN's Bill Connelly released a more detailed look at Clemson and the ACC this week with the SP+ college football metric ($).

In figures already released, Florida State is ranked two spots (10) ahead of Clemson (12) overall with the metric this season. Clemson is projected with Top 25 units on offense (21) and defense (11), but so is FSU offensively (19) and defensively (14).

By the model, they are neck-and-neck, however, with Clemson actually a tick higher in average total wins (9.4-9.3) but FSU is likewise in conference play (6.3-6.2).

The next tier ACC wins-wise is Louisville (5.5) and UNC (5.2).

On conference title odds, the metric has Clemson (29%) and FSU (28%) up top, with UNC the only other team with a double-digit percentage (10%).

"Even with the offensive improvement last season, Clemson actually fell from 11th to 14th overall in SP+ because the defense slipped more than the offense improved," Connelly said. "The defense had no clear and obvious weaknesses in coordinator Wes Goodwin's first year, but it went from great to good in a lot of categories and slipped from first to 25th in defensive SP+. A sophomore-heavy secondary was a little on the passive side, and the line battled injuries; even with more offensive improvement likely, the defense will need to at least bounce back to a top-15-or-so level for Clemson to have national aspirations.

Greg McElroy evaluates how ACC, Big 12, Pac-12 can increase strength of schedule (on3.com; Kosko)

The SEC and Big Ten have the strength of schedule argument over the other Power Fives, but Greg McElroy has a solution for the ACC, Big 12 and Pac-12.

Basically, it comes down to increasing the number of conference games per year. If you’re going to play out of conference, those games have to be high quality. Since that seems to be increasingly difficult, McElroy offered his solution on Always College Football.

“I think you can try to find as many games in the non-conference as you can, not easy to find, I might add,” McElroy said. “Those are difficult games to find. I know that there have been years where teams have really struggled to schedule games. People always give teams a hard time … If you’re one of the best teams in college football, not everybody wants to go and get their teeth kicked in. So it’s not always easy to schedule non-conference games, it’s really not. That’s why I think they do have so far down in advance, you got to schedule it and I think it’s easier to kind of push down the road just a little bit but at the same time.

“Man like, I think that if I were the Big 12, I would play 10 conference games. If I were the Pac-12, I’d play 10 conference games. I would play as many as humanly possible to try to get one or two big, big games on the schedule every year. If possible, (in order to increase strength of schedule). I wouldn’t play any Group of Five, I wouldn’t play any FCS because I don’t think they will be getting the benefit of the doubt.”

Clemson football's preseason USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll rankings since 2000 (usatoday.com; Turri)

Clemson is one of the best college football programs in the country, with an immaculate history under head coach Dabo Swinney.

Even before Swinney, Clemson was a top-tier program that had been making noise for years. How good have they been since 2000?

The USA TODAY Sports AFCA football coaches poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season with a voting panel consisting of 65 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches. The panel is chosen randomly from a pool of coaches who indicated interest to participate.

A first-place vote is worth 25 points, second place is 24 points, and down to No. 25 being worth one point.

Clemson Wire looks at where Clemon has been ranked in the preseason and at the end of each campaign since 2000 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA football coaches poll. Rankings are listed below.

2000

WATCH: CFB analyst Josh Pate on Dabo Swinney and Mike Norvell's opposite approach in the transfer portal (usatoday.com; Turri)

The ACC will be a ton of fun to watch in 2023, with top programs Clemson and Florida State expected to battle it out for the top spot in the conference.

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was the best thing that could have happened to the Seminoles in years, turning things around for a program that reached lows they never should have. Truly becoming one of the best in the game, Norvell has done a good job in recruiting and an excellent job in the transfer portal.

Watching Swinney and Norvell’s programs go to work, there is a glaring difference between each team’s use of the transfer portal. While Swinney and the Tigers practically don’t use the portal, Norvell and the Seminoles thrive in it as arguably the top transfer portal team in the country.

College football analyst Josh Pate discussed this on his podcast, The Late Kick with Josh Pate, and it is interesting to see him break things down.

Since Mike Norvell arrived FSU has taken 46 kids out of the Portal. In that same time Clemson has taken 2. pic.twitter.com/PHI5Z4oFCB
— Josh Pate (@LateKickJosh) June 2, 2023

There is nothing wrong with what the Tigers are doing… It is just different. Different coaches going about it in different ways is undoubtedly a fact here.

I love Coach Swinney and what he’s built at Clemson. He’s our guy, and we need to trust him. I do, however, agree with Pate saying it’s not exactly how he’d go about things because I wouldn’t either.

Some transfer portal targets make too much sense for the Tigers. For example, Virginia Tech wide receiver Ali Jennings would have been an amazingly beneficial pickup for the team if they had attempted to sign him.

It will be interesting to see if Swinney remains this way in the future.
