Predictions for Syracuse-Wake Forest (PS; Staff)

BRENT AXE
Syracuse 17, Wake Forest 3

Do you like defense? Then you will like this game. Syracuse is struggling on offense with injury and inexperience, but Wake Forest is literally the worst offensive team in the country. Syracuse finally gets back on track in an ugly one.

STEPHEN BAILEY
Syracuse 17, Wake Forest 6

Despite all the injuries and the mid-season change at offensive coordinator, Syracuse should still beat Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons offense is putrid. It averages 1.04 yards per carry (worst in the country). Its quarterback, freshman John Wolford, has nearly twice as many interceptions (11) as touchdowns (6). And somehow, its red-zone touchdown percentage (38.89) is even worse than Syracuse's (39.13).

SU Releases Pre-Wake Forest Injury Report (DO; Klinger)

Ahead of Syracuse’s noon kickoff against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Satrday, the Orange released its weekly injury report Thursday evening.

Some of the more significant players out for SU are quarterback Terrel Hunt (fractured fibula), H-back Brisly Estime (lower body), linebacker Luke Arciniega (lower body), defensive tackle Wayne Williams (lower body), cornerback Wayne Morgan (lower body), right tackle Ivan Foy (lower body) and quarterback Austin Wilson (upper body).

Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer said Wilson had a “pretty good headache” after he left SU’s 38-20 loss to then-No. 1 Florida State last Saturday.

H-back Ashton Broyld (lower body) is listed as doubtful, while nose tackle Eric Crume (upper body), wide receiver Ben Lewis (lower body) and center John Miller (lower body) are listed as questionable.

Shafer Praises Kimble's Growth as 2nd String QB; Doesn't Rule Out Playing Time (DO; D'Abbraccio)

If the injury bug continues to strike Syracuse and AJ Long is the next victim, Scott Shafer feels pretty good about his new second-string quarterback.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Mitch Kimble,” SU’s head coach said at his weekly Thursday morning press conference. “He’s a bright young man, he’s got good feet. He can run. He’s fast. Great long jumper in high school. His arm’s good. So I’m interested to see how he continues to develop.”

Austin Wilson’s is listed as out for Saturday, according to the injury report which SU released on Thursday evening.

Long will start at quarterback when Syracuse (2-4, 0-2 Atlantic Coast) takes on Wake Forest (2-4, 0-2) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Saturday at noon. Wilson started in SU’s 38-20 loss to Florida State on Saturday but couldn’t finish it, leaving with an upper-body injury and what Shafer called a “pretty good headache” after the game.

Shafer: Hunt Exploring Academic Options While Recovering From Fractured Fibula (DO; D'Abbraccio)

As much as the players don’t like to hear it, Scott Shafer said, academic opportunities open up when they’re out with injuries.

Terrel Hunt is experiencing that very situation as he sits out with a fractured fibula that he suffered in Syracuse’s 28-6 loss to Louisville on Oct. 3 and will sideline him for another 2-4 weeks. Hunt, a fourth-year quarterback who has one more year of eligibility, is on pace to graduate ahead of time, Shafer said at his weekly Thursday morning press conference, and is beginning to explore his academic options while he waits to return to the field.

“I think Terrel’s in that frustration mode right now,” the SU head coach said. “But what we’ve tried to do is turn the page forward and say, ‘OK, you’re going to have a little bit of extra time here,’ because the rehab you can do for a broken bone is limited.”

Pitt RB James Conner Ran for 85 Yards and 2 TDs in the Panther Victory

Unpredictable Pitt Confounds Again with Defeat of Virginia Tech (PS; Stevens)

It had work itself out this way. Of course it did. It didn't take long for Pittsburgh to claim the role of the ACC's most predictably unpredictable team, a title it held in the Big East before its conference switch last year.

So naturally, with the Panthers sitting on a three-game losing streak and a program (Virginia Tech) that's made its share of good memories on Thursday nights, it was Pittsburgh who stymied the Hokies in a 21-16 victory.

The best way to guess what the Panthers (4-3, 2-1 ACC) will do is to figure what makes the most sense, and then go in the opposite direction. In this case, it meant using its rushing attack to fluster the Hokies (4-3, 1-2), who normally do decent work against teams that take that approach.

Its amazing how much virginia tech stinks. Every year, they lose games they aren't supposed to--such is Beamer Ball--always has been, always will be.

But these guys looked AMAZING going on the road to whip Ohio State earlier in the year. Mid-season, they look like a wreck of the team that accomplished that.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you--I loathe VT and their stupid fanbase.

(1/2) Wake's longest play from scrimmage this season has been 36 yards, covering that on 2 passes and 1 run, none since Sept. 20 vs Army.

(2/2) @CuseFootball has had 4 different rushers, 3 passers and 4 receivers with scrimmage plays of at least 36 yards this season.
