Welcome to Festivus!

Festivus is both a parody and a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 that serves as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. It has been described as "the perfect secular theme for an all-inclusive December gathering".[1]

Originally a family tradition of scriptwriter Dan O'Keefe, who worked on the American sitcom Seinfeld, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of the 1997 episode"The Strike".[1][2] The holiday's celebration, as it was shown on Seinfeld, includes a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength", and the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles".[3]

The episode refers to it as "a Festivus for the rest of us", referencing its non-commercialaspect. It has also been described both as a "parody holiday festival" and as a form of playful consumer resistance.[4]

Jacob Hill's Top Five Twitter Dances (TNIAAM; Carey)

You may know Jacob Hill as a Syracuse Orange walk-on running back out of Detroit. He saw the field as a traditional running back against Rhode Island and also made his way onto the field as a "Hybrid" on a few occasions. Hill rushed for a career best 75 yards on 17 carries against Rhode Island.

However, not only is Hill pretty good at football, but his Twitterfeed @twennie_fourfeatures some pretty good dance moves. We decided to break them down.

Purdue Promotes Malone to OC, Tim Lester Strong Candidate to Become QB Coach (jconline.com; Carmin)

“Certainly, a lot of the answers are going to be right there on the tape,” he said. “An advantage of this position is we know exactly what we asked those guys to do last year and if it didn’t work, finding out why it didn’t work.”

Malone’s appointment fills one opening on the staff, but Hazell is still searching for a quarterbacks coach. One name to watch – Tim Lester, who was Syracuse’s quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator last season. Lester played quarterback at Western Michigan when Hazell was the program’s receivers coach for two seasons in 1995 and 1996.

Purdue could also name its defensive coordinator before the end of the calendar year.Linebackers coach Marcus Freeman is a strong candidate and could become a co-coordinator with a current member of the staff or with the new defensive line coach.

Mahoney: Syracuse Mayor 'Gets Emotional And She Just Very Quickly Lashes Out' (PS; Knauss)

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney on Monday blamed her deteriorating relationship with Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner in part on the mayor's "emotional'' response to issues like metropolitan government or tax breaks for the Inner Harbor.

During an interview Monday on WSYR-TV, Mahoney blamed Miner's reluctance to discuss a possible merger of city and county governments on the mayor's emotions. Mahoney said Miner previously supported the plan to spend part of Central New York's award of $500 million from the state on developing metropolitan government, until her feelings got hurt.

"I think that is one of the issues that the mayor struggles with,'' Mahoney told news anchor Carrie Lazarus. "She gets emotional and she just very quickly lashes out. Here I think you are seeing it again. That's the first time I ever heard her say no. She wrote down in our application for the $500 million that she would support a referendum to move toward a metropolitan government in the fall. Then she gets her feelings hurt, and then we get lawsuits and we get entrenched. It's just not a good way to move forward with government."

Miner responded today that Mahoney is resorting to personal attacks to deflect attention from the real issues. She said it was "unfortunate'' that Mahoney blamed their dispute on the mayor's emotions.

- Florida State is getting a new scoreboard, so what will it do with the old one?
Donate it to Florida A&M for free.

It will still cost $125,000 to install and program, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. Finances are difficult for lower-level programs. It’s nice to see FSU helping out a local team.
