RIP to Greg Halman... was stabbed to death yesterday and his brother was arrested and questioned. That's all that has been released so far, I think.

Halman was a very intriguing prospect in the Seattle Mariners system. At about 6'4" and 220lb, he was not only a physical specimen, but a throwback as well. In today's world of numbers and metrics, Halman's likely turned off a few folks, due to the fact the youngster was not exactly a fan of talking a free base. But his light tower power and surprising athleticism pointed to a world of untapped ability. The tools were definitely legit... but he was raw, and sometimes arrogant, which hindered his development. It really looked like he had begun to put things together though in 2011. Not only did he show an extreme jump in efficiency at Triple-A, but he came up and had his share of competent showings during 91 plate appearances with the big club. Sadly, we won't get to see what Greg could have ultimately accomplished. I am glad that he got to experience the top of the mountain though before passing. We really should all be so lucky.
