Got an itch for daylight and warm weather. Heading to Vegas the 2nd-6th. First time. Staying at New York New York.

What are the "must do's"?

Any tips?

Anyone gonna be around?

Since its your first time, take an opportunity to walk up the strip from NY NY toward Bellagio and the Wynn. Walk through Aria, Caesar's (if your wife is going with you both have really nice malls for some shopping), the Venetian and Palazzo. You have to see the Bellagio fountain at night. Its really pretty incredible. The strip at night is awesome. I'd walk all the way to Circus Circus to get the full deal, but you can stop at the Wynn/Encore.

Treat yourself to a nice dinner at least one night. Of all the steak houses I've been to in Vegas, my favorite is StripSteak at Mandalay Bay. It's got a fairly traditional steakhouse menu in a non traditional setting.

You'll have a great time. I'm staying at the Delano at Mandalay Bay for five nights the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Its just a great getaway trip.

Man i love vegas. I wish i was there.

Gambling and Hookers.
You don't have to go looking for hookers. They will come looking for you. I've heard that if you are a fan of Pawn Stars that it is nice to check out but the lines are always very long. Not much there that isn't fun. However it might be warmer than Alaska, but it's not really warm this time of year.

Vegas broke the all time record for visitors at 40,000,000 , if your number 41,000,000 , your whole visit is free ! Good luck !

A trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris gives a great view. Right across the street from the Bellagio fountains. The High Roller Ferris Wheel offers a much broader view. You can get 2 free tickets if you apply for a Total Rewards Visa card. Any of the cirque du soleil shows are entertaining. We saw Michael Jackson One and it was quite a show. As far as eats go you have to go to the Bellagio buffet. Italian restaurants include Maggiano's which is family style and Carmine's. I would also recommend checking out the Wynn during the day. Beautiful property with a replica of Chittenango Falls. At night I would recommend watching the volcano show at the Mirage. Enjoy!

A couple of more suggestions-

The Mob Museum is surprisingly good. It's near Fremont Street, so you can go there when you do the Fremont Street run.

There's a great restaurant called Hot and Juicy in the asian section that serves crawfish and other seafood in a unique way (In a plastic bag with sauce). It's a wear a bib and eat with your hands kind of place. I personally liked the shrimp in mild Hot and Juicy sauce the best.

walk the Bellagio lobby too. Its more impressive than the fountains.

see the Lions right in the casino at MGM. take a look at the "open sky" casino in Paris.

the Pirate show at TI is cheesy, but worth a few mins if you happen to be in the area at the time.

DON'T walk all the way down Strat. its a dump down there but if you hit that area, walk Circus Circus too

do a little research if there is stuff you are particularly in to. there are a lot of cool things (ancient Egyptian artifacts @ Luxor, cool aquarium at Mandalay Bay, knight doing combat at Excalibur, mob & Liberace museums, etc)

tons of great food, both high end and low. again, do some research but the above suggestion for the Bellagio buffet is spot on.

like others said, hit up Freemont for a few. down the block, just past the lightshow are zip lines, if you are inclined. if you are a poker player, spend some time playing at Binions when down there. its old school

if you are a blackjack player, don't play if the dealer is asian or an old guy named Sid. You will get raped.

if you win huge, do something stupid like rent a high end sports car on the strip and drive out to the Hoover Dam for a couple of hours. when's the last time you opened up a Ferrari in the desert?

after you check in, go say hi to a concierge in your hotel and ask for some advice about what to do, where to eat, etc. I've turned those conversation into comps, esp with a little gambling time in the home hotel too. make sure to get a comp card before you start playing.

tons of great shows. again, ask you concierge about discounts or comps.

if you are looking for a hooker or three, don't believe the card girls from the mexicans.

if you aren't looking for hookers but just want some eye candy, try to get into a pool party around town (best are Hard Rock, Rio & Palms). Its where all the strippers, hookers and hot tourists go to flaunt their stuff. If you have the scratch, big time it and get a cabana.

If you see a pack dudes hanging in front of the CVS or Walgreens, DON'T F with them.

Have fun, stay safe and don't loose all your cash the first day. It makes for a miserable trip.

Binions! I just like saying that name for some reason. I've heard it said the odds on some games are better downtown as well. If one enjoys blackjack, Circus Circus had the lowest minimums of any place I stopped on the Strip. I'm more of a grinder than a rounder, so it works well for me. They also had a nice coupon book that I haven't noticed anyone on here rushing to mention. ;) It may be dated by now, but someone once wrote a good book on how to take advantage of Vegas, almost like grifting it. The title isnt coming to me at the moment.

I also find it amusing that the people handing out their promotional material on the sidewalks arent allowed to talk and have to tap the paper on their hands instead. Until your post, I never realized that's the perfect interacting with the public type of job for folks who don't speak English. On that note, when I went as the underling, I learned from experience that for some things cabbies are not always trustworthy. Apparently, some receive cuts for bringing you to certain places. I hope some of this may be of use, Troop.

Edit: If I recall correctly, the Strip technically isn't part of Las Vegas, but rather unincorporated Clark County. Others may know if there are any significant differences in the laws more than myself.

Speaking of laws, the anti-drug sign along the highway is pretty amusing to me as well, although I know it won't be on everyone's bucket list. Movie directors seem to like it though.

I went last year during the NFL conference championships weekend. it was my third visit and all were great.
My tips:

1) Never pay for a drink. Even if you belly up to a bar, just throw a twenty in the video poker machine. You will be comped.

2) Don't spend an hour on the wheel of fortune slot machine trying to get just one more spin.

3) Eat. Sounds simple, but you might forget!

Put it all on red.

This guy disagrees.

Been so many times I have lost count. Many good tips already. Trust me... If you have never had an In-N-Out burger, make sure you go there once.
You are welcome.

If you are a poker player play at Bellago or Venetian. Venetian has a kick ass sports book as well, and both are a must see for sight seeing, as is the Wynn

First don't stay at 'NYNY. It's a dump. The stay is everything

The strip is open container friendly (I think the whole town is), which makes a simple walk up or down it that much more attractive. Some places sell these giant frozen slushy drinks, you'll see a fair amount of tourists walking around with them. Don't actually try to drink a whole one, not so much due to the alcohol but rather they are like giant mountain of sugar that will lay in your stomach for hours. You can buy beers from vendors on the street but they will charge you bar prices, you may find you can buy the same beverage from an ABC Store on the strip for like half the price and still carry it around with you.
