Folks,

I know some of you have seen this already here:

http://syracusefan.com/threads/ot-but-worthwhile.84472/

But I am starting a new thread with a new title based on a recommendation from a member of the forum since the title I used was not very descriptive. My friend is a single father and his 13 year old son is battling a brain tumor and I am attempting to help them raise money to pay for treatments and medications. I started a gofundme site for anyone that cares to donate (several on this board have and I myself contributed $350) and we have hit the 10% mark. The goal is to raise at least $8K to help cover the costs of medication and treatments that he will undergo for the next several months. The site is here:

If I can get 800 donations of $10 I would reach this goal. Thanks to all that have participated and helped and sorry if this thread is redundant. Happy New Year Everyone!

-Bill

If we had universal health care, no one would ever have to raise money to pay for medical treatments again. I feel so angry when I see parents going through this! The same thing happened to my brother 15 years ago when his 2 year old got leukemia. She recovered, but the debt nearly ruined him. No one in this great country should EVER have to fear bankruptcy should someone in their family get sick.

Okay, I'll get off the soapbox and get onto your website! What a wonderful thing you are doing for your friend! You are a good man.

Thank you I truly appreciate it! I agree the issue is finding a good universal health care solution. Lawsuits and greed have also ruined the system. I wish there was a much better way. Even the socialist systems are so expensive that they break the bank. I feel fortunate to have a solid health insurance option but even then if something like this happened to one of my two children I would be struggling in some ways too ... it is very tough.

Bill...glad you're doing this. Sent what I could...

Every little bit helps! If I get 800x $10 donations I can ensure they have peace of mind for a while ... that alone is worth its weight in gold. I myself will be adding whatever I can where ever I can ... no person deserves this ... not a one. Cancer is a hideous mess and it makes me ill to think about it.

Added a little something to help on this big fight. Hope it all works out, please keep us posted.

Thanks so much! I will update the gofundme site at the end of the month with the results of the testing he is scheduled to undergo. We are now up to 14.7% there. Thanks to all that have contributed thus far!

I spoke with Todd yesterday (the boy's father) his son isn't in the best of spirits but will be going for testing soon. He appreciates what everyone has done, it is my hope we can raise at least 5K by the end of the month so that I can help him get to at least March or April based on his expenses. I will be circulating this link out and if any of you know of anyone who traditionally donates please don't hesitate to pass along the URL.

I am at work... but will donate this afternoon or tonight when I get home.

Oh wow. I didnt even realize the family was in the Atlanta area. Thanks for telling me.

Yeah ... his dad lives and works not far from Johnson Ferry Rd closer to the Roswell side of town. Really good guy who is struggling ... he lost his brother in the spring to cancer and now that his son has it, it is really crashing down on him. Just trying to help him get through for a while and see if we can get his son into remission ... cancer sucks.

Wow thanks so much! I appreciate it ... no need to apologize .. this will be a long drawn out fight for sure.

I love seeing the $44 donations.

It is such a good way for Syracuse fans to donate. It gives it kind of an odd flavor that promotes a good atmosphere within the Syracuse name and 'family' while doing some a nice community gesture. It is something I will start doing more often.

If possible, donate to this. If you can do more than $44 - awesome... if you can't do $44 - do $5 or $10. Every bit helps.

I'm going to donate a bit when I get home, but when I first read this thread I thought it said "Help me fight a young boy with cancer" and I thought that was really bad! Hopefully this little dude gets well soon.

Thanks JRod! I have been in Phoenix on business so I haven't been keeping up with this as much as I have needed to do so ... I really appreciate it.

Thanks so much to Dave W for the latest donation. Sorry for the delay Dave :) .. I was on travel and hadn't logged into gofundme in quite some time. As an update it looks like Todd's son will be going back for surgery number 2 next month, hopefully this one will be less invasive and I will keep you all posted as I am not sure on all the details yet. For anyone looking to donate myself and the family truly appreciates it ... I know they have a long fight ahead. As an aside my sister will know the results of her treatment schedule on Wednesday and will know whether or not she will be in remission ... any and all prayers are welcome. Thanks so much to all of you!
