He was not highly regarded as a recruit.
However, he had a relentless style on both ends of the court, and he improved each season to the point where he was a star or close to it by the time he was a senior. He absolutely epitomized what a so-called "program" kid could accomplish.
He has waited patiently year after year for his turn to coach at the Cuse.
Jimmy has certainly earned his right to step down on his own terms, but I have thought for the last several years that he at least owed Mike a firm timetable. Even now at the 11th hour things are up in the air in regard to Jimmy's retirement.
I am glad for his own sake that Mike has made a move and I wish the best to him and his family.
